so i've sold my car and now im looking for something around the $20,000 mark.

so far my options are:

- s15 with some mods

- EVO 6.5 (tommi mak)

- EVO 7

- EVO 8

- Supra 2JZ

what else is there?

i want a fast car that has a lot of potential that i could also have fun in on the track as well as do some 1/4 mile runs in.

does anyone else have any insight on any of these cars?

im leaning towards the EVO but im also thinking about getting something RWD to have some fun in. i've been fighting with myself for a while now trying to decide which one to get.

i know there arent any skylines in that list, simply because the only one in my price range is the r34gtt and i dont want that, and the r33 GTR looks exactly like my car.

are there any other cars that i would like that arent in my list?

cheers,

joe

r32 gtr? perfect for trackdays and 1/4mile.

the Evo's are a sweet car but

R32 GTR's are wallet vaccums!

ill get abused for saying this but.....

have you thought about going down the V8 side of life??? most might not be the best for trackdays but for 1/4mile and just having fun cruising you cant go past a good V8.

VY SS's are going for around $16,000

you can pick up a supercharger kit for an LS1 for just under $5,000 aswell. cheap 400kw.

i think ill delete my account now before the abuse floods in haha.

If I wasn't in the market for an NA then I'd seriously consider buying that for myself :) .

im not a big fan of a re-sprayed car and big wings (mine was resprayed and turned me off, and my car had a shaved wing!)

thats going in the complete opposite direction for what i want mate. i want something light and easy to mod.

Sounds like you're in the same position I was 12 months ago. I went with the Evo VII.......and I kept my 33 too.

I do not regret it at all.

yeah im going to look at a few tommi macks over the next few days (EVO 6.5 - apparently they got on the top 10 jap cars of all time). EVO 7 or 8 will be the next in line if i dont like the 6.5.

R1 :P

i've got an R6 already - selling that and getting a gsxr1000.

All those cars you listed are money pits.

It's just a matter of time when parts will need replacing.

All cars listed are great, just depends on what you like driving and the purpose you want to use it for.

For drift work I'd go S15

For circuit I'd go EVO's.

I particularly like the EVO VI TME, I have driven 1 and it quite a fun car, having said that, each EVO improved every time a new 1 was released.

For quarter mile / drag runs = Supra.

Would give you most top end out of all the cars listed.

If you still can't decide, test drive all of them and pick the 1 you think is best and work it up from there.

EVO6.5TMEFTW!

The only thing I 'dislike' about them is they are the last of that particular shape, with the VII's onwards having a much more modern look. But tjhey area fun car and good power can be had easy enough.

But with your $20K budget, that would be the car of choice (unless you want a fully sik rexxie)

an FD would be a reasonable option too that hasnt been mentioned. Wouldn't an evo 8 be stretching towards the higher end of the 20k range too?

If you are thinking of doing a bit of drifting or any skidpan/texi events go the RWD, it'll still be good on a circuit too. The reverse doesnt really apply as much. I'd say the s15, but thats probably the most expensive car there to insure as well.

Once I get my motor rebuilt properly I'll throw it into a Silvia or r32 for fun. My budget can be stretched for something that is worth it.

The Evo 6.5 is looking good but as mentioned they're a bit on the ugly side.

I'll do some test driving and see how I go. I'll rate them 1-10. I'll make 5 being the same as my skyline and I'll add points if they're over or under. That's probably the best way to do it.

Hi Joe,

May I suggest Evo 6 or 6.5?

I have been in a friend's Evo 6...and they are very good cars in your price range (Maybe a little bit more).

The look isn't that bad either. I used to hate them as they look like dressed-up Lancer, but performance wise, they are totally different cars.

Good luck.

May i suggest an evo 7, coz if you get a 6 and it looks like ass, whats the point? :(

I mean performance aside, the car still has to look nice....right?...right!!?

I was looking at a few of the Cars you mentioned a few months ago

really really liked that Evo 8 MR :D , the Evo 6.5 Interior is a HUGE step back for anyone seriously. unless if this is only going to be a Track / drag use car

But end up importing R34 GTR :(

    • I was using the wiring diagram I have So 12.74V is coming into the rear Fuel Pump relay as I measured.  When I turn the key to ON im getting 0.6V to the Fuel Pump plug; which i assume is backfeed voltage and doesnt include the 12V from ignition power.  The rear relay is working and being triggered.  From the diagram I clearly see the rear relay 80 = Rear Relay going into the Body/H loom (R-27) 27 = Fuel Pump plug going into the Body/H loom (T-20) 40 = Short Connector (R-27) I'm reading 12.74V on the blue/black wire which is the power for the Fuel Pump   From this diagram I can see the Ignition relay goes into the front and up to the ignition  2 = Fuel Pump Relay <1M> (R-27) 37 = ING Relay <1M> I started from the pump using this reference Which the way I read it (referencing Nissan wiring color codes) is: Pin Wire Color Function 1 B/P (Black/Pink) Ground 2 L/W (Blue/White)        ECU Trigger 3 SB (Sky Blue) Fuel Pump 5 L/B (Blue/Black) 12V Constant Tested SB to SB on Fuel Pump for continuity - confirmed Tested negative on Fuel Pump to 12V battery and L/B - confirmed 12V Pulled the relay putting 12V between Pin 1 & 2 and testing continuity on Pin 3 & 4 - confirmed relay   So that has me looking at this part of the circuit to understand whats happening here...and im still confused. From best I can tell; the disconnect is back to my previous diagram; between Ignition Relay and Fuel Pump Relay...which yet again; afaik is where the immobiliser should.    Thats what I was trying to explain to GTSboy; im not trying to fix it myself; yet I seem to have to get a Masters in Electrical Engineering (while im busy doing my actual job of DevOps & Cloud Engineering) somehow.  I just wanted more expert opinions; or more so that what I tested is correct and proves it to something around that area; to go back to the alarm tech (for a 3rd time) that he needs to fix it. He keeps telling me its not the alarm. He lives on the complete other side of the city so i understand not wanting to make a trip but as I said before if its the alarm it should be up to him to fix it. But he's adament its not; even though I pointed out the FP was immobilised through the original alarm. To my mind; it seems that the ECU is sending the signal; but the ignition is not getting 12V down the line.
    • Maybe also really stiffly sprung track cars. Get the inside wheel up in a corner and all the fun stops. Also me sometimes (rarely) when I have to stand on the brake to convince the diff to drive the wheel that is still on the ground when I'm trying to diagonally get over severe driveway entrance, etc.
    • I feel like I'm missing something. You had an authorised installer come out and install a new alarm. Post install the car doesn't start, and you aren't getting the installer back to fix what they did wrong?
    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
