Hey all,

Looking at getting my gearbox recondition. Can anyone recommend a shop that they may have used? I think some syncro's are out. Also going from 4th to 3rd at higher speeds is impossible without crunch/grinding sounds.

Anyhelp would be great.

Cheers

my diff was single spinning at times and the gearbox was a little crunchy so i put heavier oil in both, was 85(i think)/140 diff is now perfect and gearbox is hard to get into second and going back to 1st when cold but once warmed up goes into every gear perfectly, even snap shifting is a breeze with no crunching at all!

Have you tried Birds on here? The price was reasonable if you had a s/h box to swap over as I remember.

Out of interest what is the cost?

Yes, my mother and her partner own it.

explains all the trouble i went through with our name then.. i was told they were informed by someone off here..

bit of a shame really hardly the same trade...but could not be stuffed with the legal costs (our lawyer quoted up to 15k) as we could have won due to on prior usage... documents from early 90's predated the trademark... maybe oneday we will revisit the issue.

Wasn't my doing mate. In fact, I was against them doing that when I heard the news. I'm a firm believer in don't shit where you eat, don't mix business with your personal life etc., because this is a community that you and I both are very much a part of. But I have no say in matters like that...it's a company director decision. And yeah, unfortunately when shit like that goes down, it burns bridges where you'd rather it didn't. Hence I've never given a shit about you using your forum name or referring to yourself as Status Tuning on here...everyone on here knows you as that and it never bothered me. I couldn't push Status Gearbox & Diff on here even if I wanted to, because your reputation under that name, within this community, is so widespread. People would be asking why Trent is doing gearboxes now. Not to downplay the trouble that trademark issues cause for businesses, but it makes me glad that you have a loyal clientele base, where you could change your name to Joe's Tuning and people would still come to you.

From what I recall of it, they actually got word of you through people calling them up and asking if they can get their car tuned/dynoed. So yeah, probably people from these forums looking for you in the Yellow Pages or on Google and landing on Status Gearbox & Diff.

No hard feelings from me to you and I hope that it is the same vice versa.

Easy assumption and can't say I blame you. Thanks for understanding though. Now I can put this chequered past behind me...

Yes they will reco a supplied box for the same cost, but if you have countershaft or mainshaft damage, they may have no choice but to use another box as a starting point. The common issues like crunching synchros or noisy bearings are fine to reco existing. And guys, whilst I appreciate the plugs, the company itself is not a forum supporter or trader, so I would rather it not receive the benefit of recommendations/referrals/attention on here. That and, as stated earlier, I don't mix business with my personal life if I can avoid it. For that reason this will be my last post in this thread :)

Cheers.

    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
