Totally...if it was applied to all cars and the rest of the general public had to put up with the same shit, it would be all over talkback radio and the news how much of a rort the system is and we would see it quickly disbanded. But given it targets an apathetic minority who treat it as a fact of life, nothing will change. Even if they paid for the test, that you have to take the time to get it tested is just f**ked.

I think it was Alvin who got an EPA notice for his Supra that had a standard exhaust?

Do u guys buy Mercs at the auctions then put em on the lot? Or u sell repo'd ones at auction

We reposses them through an external repo agent, and get them sent to pickles for inspection.

I do the valuation on the cars based on previous sales and wear/tear and set a reserve.

then my manager goes down to pickles as the vendor and approves the sale if its under my set reserve.

I went to the last one(was on the news) because it was the first luxury/exotic auction in melbourne. otherwise we'd monitor it from work online.

do you need 300?

i'd probably shoot for like 260 from an SR in aid of having more fun

I don't need any more than what I have now. We'll see what happens, if I'm not happy with it then I'm sure there is someone with an sr that would buy the setup.

I would like to see 300 or close to it though.

the only reason why the general public dooesnt get tested is because the likely hood of finding something is very slim, compared to cars that are commonly illegally modded. although i still agree that just because someone is a granny that there bold tires and broken tail lights shouldnt be looked at and defected. although in regards to engine mods its just a waste of everyones time to pull over camrys that you know are stock

hope that made sense :)

p.s getting an epa for a standard sounding supra (assuming) is bullshit

I believe it's more along the lines of, finding something illegal is easier and there's less effort involved when you know what you're looking for. Spot the boost controller vs. get on your knees and inspect the tyre tread depth of an old shitter. It's just easy revenue and low fruit.

Because realistically, police could pull over any 5+ year old car and find something to defect them for (leaks, tyres, suspension, rust) if they were looking as hard as they do at the imports. Ask any import owner how many times they've been pulled over for inspection, then ask any bomb owner how often they've been pulled over for inspection...landslide. Apply the same logic to racial profiling based on assumptions and it'd be a different story, but it's okay, because cars aren't races.

I'm just saying, do it for all or do it for none, like they do with booze buses. It should be a "good" thing that they pull over a random non-import and find nothing to defect it on. But they don't.

My mate got an EPA noise check 2 weeks for an 80's stock Supra. Just sayin

Oh and Aaron you can reply here or PM or SMS how much you charge for your DJ or band thing for weddings or whatever you do. Got any gigs coming up so I can check out your talent? noimsayin?

Still haven't received my invitation to the wasteland wedding :(

1. Disregard FPV, acquire R34 GTR

2. Receive invite & be part of Wedding Cars

3. Acquire emotionally foreveralone single female

4. ????

5. Profit

I don't dj bro, but I will find out from Jehan(the dj) it might be worth you tagging along to a few gigs coming up to check out the bands and the dj's

IDE seriously reccomend a band though, it gives a better vibe at weddings. Can even organize indoor fireworks and everything now(legally) which is an amazing sight at some of the weddings we did! I'll give u a call tonight after I have a look at the calender

Yet to be pulled over in my shitbox, and it's beat up as f**k in the looks department.

Tires are bald, alignment is so far out it's a joke

Rear suspension is pretty much non existant

power steering fluid leaks

coolant leaks

My skyline on the other hand, plenty of power, $2000 worth of tires, upgraded brake pads/lines/rotors, upgraded suspension and not a leak in sight

granted I was never pulled over in it, but if I was I'm sure they would have had no trouble finding plenty to send me to the EPA for

To be honest I don't get much trouble in my Skyline, I drive past most cops and despite my paranoia, they don't give it a second look. It's only certain cops who do this double standard shit and it pisses me off.

    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
