I'm definitely not saying that it was sustainable.

I'm saying it is logical to spend when you can't afford it (to keep the economy going) and its logical to rein in the spending when times are better (like now).

But a 10 year plan of excessive cuts just to get a "number" back into check... This is going to hurt our growth in the long term...

Still not seeing the link between $900 per person and saving the economy, especially when so much of that was saved or sent overseas. $900 won't buy a car and keep someone in a job; thousands does.

But again, that was the cry of Labor MPs: "the rest of the world envies us, we have the strongest economy blah blah"...that doesn't link/prove that Labor's decision making kept us that way just because they were in power at the time. And even if it did, the spending existed because of a stronghold surplus that was built up by the previous government. If we fell into recession it would have been easy to say it couldn't be helped etc. that the rest of the world is in the same boat. It was always going to be tough for this current government, whoever got in last election, cause they had a lot of sweeping up to do after the party. Fortunately that's an LNP government because, whether you hate Abbott or disagree with policies and the budget, Labor don't have a great history of coming back out of that debt they usually put us in. Cycle continues.

But I know I'd rather have money in the bank and pull up my socks than an interest incurring debt.

Money has to come from somewhere...

You can have excessive cuts but there's also excessive spending and I reckon I know which one is more harmful to the future. Wouldn't have to cut as much if there wasn't so much debt :/

anyway labor is currently in the shits in regards to the fatbatts debucle
someone needs to answer for what has happen with the 4 deaths

as for the budget, having friends who are in the shit due to their dependance for welfare and university/tafe studies are going to be hit much harder
as for me, the budget only affects me as a driver but thats something ive been used to for 10+ years

bullshit ti was saved...everybody ahd a little spend up at some point...even if they saved the 900 initially u can bet they spent money elsewhere..anyway one thing is for certain

NOBODY GAVE IT BACK !!!!

anyway, country was due for a recession regardless of who was in power...GFC hit...wasnt labours fault and the measly 40billion they gave away to the Australian public made f**k all difference in the big scheme of things...

I think its funny they just f**ked everything up, gives liberal a f**king job to do, and when its done people will be sick of their tightwad bullshit and vote in a labour governement to f**k it all up again...and so the cycle continues,,....

Someone has to answer....How about the dodgey dream boats that put the batts in...

Nah we'll just pass the buck back onto the government...whats the point of that, government gets sued, taxpayers foot the bill not only for the damages but the whole f**king enquiry!!!...

Agreed. at the end of the day we as taxpayers will have to pay. but try telling the families of those 4 killed that. the fact that so much could went wrong did and noone seemed to give a damn.

I remember that stimilus package...... spent that on a headunit :D

I think the economy has just kept chugging along because a lot of people live beyond their means, paying things off over long periods of time. and also saving for holidays or money pits since we're such a recreational bunch (cars, boats, bikes, alcohol, decent food/local produce, gym, night life etc)

Bull...those families would have dealt with it, they have lost their sons and there is nothing that can be done about that...just like if you lost a child to war or to drugs there is nothing that can be done......nothing can ever bring them back or compensate their loss..Rudd and Garret are good men trying to do what they thought was best for their country...mistakes were made by many, nothing more nothing less ...

Its just the f**king hungry lawyers, the media and the Labour Lynch mob hovering around trying to make another dollar that would be bringing it all up to the surface again...

not to mention that superannuation copped most of the gfc blow in oz it seems. lot of people lost a lot of money, but doesn't really affect day-to-day stuff

and the amount of foreign investment into Australia.

dunno about garrett but rudd was a better leader then gillard was

its so easy to point the finger these days

lol...f**king superannuation....see just another way society has all these ways of taking your cash and telling you it is to your benefit...

A few folks at our work, most of who are at the lower end of the foodchain lost everything...200k+ in super.. gone...would they let them get their super out to pay the mortgage ..no...house gone....back to renting and living on scraps....right back where you started 20 years ago....

i bet they spent their 900$ drowning their sorrows...who says it didn't stimulate the economy :P

Tobes, you serious? Dumbo wants to rape tradies

Leigh, old photo.

Don't know why people bother arguing politics, no one engaging in the argument is ever going to concede/change their views.. How many billions is that big eared retard spending on jets? Good move...

One thing that can't be argued is that Tony Abbot is a f**king moron.

Exhibit A

Case closed.

Exactly ,and most people spend their days justifying their electoral choice no matter how retarded they turn out to be...

Abbott seems to be getting as much love as Rudd these days...will be interesting to see how long he lasts...he is making sure his hand is in all the right pockets though

I hope Rudd gets up and says "shit happens" when confronted about the insulation scheme

    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
