so significantly more come in via plane and did prior to the whole Boat people thing.

yet significantly more of the one that arrive via boats are found to be genuine cases of asylum seekers.

oh and the boats have not stopped...there is just a new policy of refusing the media any information on it so you don't know the boats have arrived...

this

All these reduce significantly when they get the hint that Australia isn't the place to sail to

this isn't going to happen.

Actually they have been shown to conduct themselves horribly to get rescued.

Aside from that why is it hamish they have no other way to get here? It's undisputed they spend thousands, tens of thousands to get here via this risky way so you tell me why don't they just get on a plane and come here like everyone else who is legitimately able to? Because they shouldn't be here that's why.

Why destroy documentation? We don't want disease and welfare drains on our society. There's a right and a wrong way to do things, boat people are wrong.

It costs more to come by plane, not only that but planes are where the majority of your "economic refugees" come from. There are also far more people arriving by plane than people in boats, they just don't look as salacious when splattered across a PR campaign so the gov't doens't bang on about it.

"tens of thousands" is a maximum figure and is not representative of what all people pay. The people that arrived on the only boat to hit Australian shores last year (yes, it happened) paid ~$1000 a head

It also affords greater security as a nation to be discriminant about who enters our country, which is a key issue for me.

Are you saying we will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come?

Pretty sure that doesn't work lol

this isn't going to happen.

Whether it happens or not is a better scenario than the message that the alternative will deliver when you open the floodgates - give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses etc,

A basic right of national security, you would think. But Hamish wants to give these people the power to vote for the greens.

Even $1000 for an unsuccessful attempt is a lot of money and still does not explain why they don't go through legitimate channels

You've also ignored the point of why they destroy all documentation??

Some of them do that... some.

Most of them cant afford legitimate channels or are unable due to the persecution they are fleeing... that's why they are called assylum seekers

Even if every asylum seeker that came via boat was allowed to vote and they all voted green, it still wouldn't touch the side of the ALP/LNP vote

did lol recently when someone told me how much it cost to obtain acid, extacy, mushrooms, etc. immediately though WTF why bother drinking?

Because it's legal and small quantities won't cause you to crash your car into a house because you thought it was a gateway into another dimension

Drugs have always been cheaper for thrills per hour vs cost

Weed was a $20 affair when I was in high school, that would last you all night while mates pissed away $50 on premixers

Even if every asylum seeker that came via boat was allowed to vote and they all voted green, it still wouldn't touch the side of the ALP/LNP vote

One less green voter in Australia is one less fk wit idealist that I have to encounter

now where's the fun in that

yeah... those gad damn idealists...

I find that hard to believe. Turning a boat away is a one off cost.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
