Only issue with Cable 100mb connections are the upload speeds being so low.

2mbps upload speeds feel crippling once you've experienced 10 or 40 or 100mbps upload speeds.

Also, contention during peak times means you can rarely achieve the throughout you're paying for, unless you're online at 3am. This is an issue on nearly every residential grade connection since people realised that you can watch tv over the internets (netflix etc)

feeling this having uploaded 11 gig yesterday

I pay a bit for mine ($93 a month) but it's decent enough.. 30mbps/1mbps 200gb cable with telstra.. plenty for just me.

Got mates at Berwick as well that can only get ADSL.. also mrs at Lynbrook can only get ADSL2

Think our 500GB Bigpond Cable Ultimate (100mbps/2mbps) is $79.95/month (when bundled with a $40 mobile and $40 home phone)

More than enough for everything I do... I checked the other day, I'd not downloaded a single torrent in over a month... just been watching Netflix and Youtube...

Will go back to torrenting for a bit now that some shows have just started back up again that aren't on Netflix Australia :)

I get like 17mbps is that any good?

Yeah that'll be ADSL2+, the maximum acheivable speed (depends on line quality / distance to the phone exchange) is 24mbps... 17 is about 500m-1km from the telephone exchange and should be stock solid stable. Can't complain with that...

Yeah I've got no need for foxtel/home phone/mobile so no bundle for me.

I'm the same, I just stream everything from Kodi (better than netflix imo because way more content, free etc.)

Only reason we still have foxtel is because it's got AFL... and of course if you want the good sports channels (and pretty much nothing else) it still costs nearly $100/month for Foxtel via Telstra.... Think it's cheaper if you bill from foxtel directly...

I use dads foxtel go account (which gets all but footy channel) but my solution to no footy channel is afl live subscription i scored for free ;) run that on my tablet and mirror to my tv = all foxtel channels free!

I've noticed that. Uploading to YouTube is a pain. And trying to stream anything other than netflix or download large files is shithouse during peak times.

I usually just download bulk series and movies and then watch them when I get time. Netflix is unmetered on Optus apparently and I have no issues with it. Except no surround sound.

I remember when downloading tv shows and movies made you a geek lol

Dem IRC days

Yes and now grandparents downloading torrents and swapping portable hard drives wtf

I remember having a pocket PC (windows ce ftw) in year 7 and copping never ending shit for it - these days you'd get bagged if you didn't have a more capable smart phone lol

me either. but then 20 hours a week of games is pretty normal for me.

Yeah I suppose I play a bit of games - used to be up around 15-20 a week, but these days more like 5

At least games are interactive and reflex stimulating, though - used to cop shit from parents for playing them all the time meanwhile they sit there immobile and passive in front of a TV for hours every night lol

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
