Interesting idea and if you hadn't jumped down everyone's throats who disagreed or didn't think it was a good idea you would get a lot more out of the forum. Instead you've started a thread with a pretty outlandish idea and then proceeded to belittle everyone's opinions which isn't your own. Then you continue on and stereotype every member of a forum into 2 categories, posers as you seem to be implying and people who have been around in the car scene for awhile. I'm getting the vibe that you would fit into the latter by your own standards. How arrogant are you?

The point of the forum is to generate discussion and you won't get anything meaningful unless you start taking other peoples opinions on board. If this topic isn't for advice about how or why or where to do something and more of a hey guys look what I'm doing why don't you start a thread in the Projects and Builds thread when you have started it? You coming in here and telling everyone how awesome you are and how out of the box your ideas are serves nobody but your own massive ego. Take a step back, a deep breath and loosen the grip around your cock and start contributing to the forum.

Took the bait, I think this is the worlds worst troll for the record but f**k it.

not sure why im quoting this. from the OP probably needs to read this more than once

Stop asking for opinions and just do it, you big pussy!

You obviously don't give a shit about suggestions/opinions on here so why'd you bother posting in the first place?

Reading some of your silly remarks made me think of good ol' Fry.

How are you planning to connect the aesthetics to the original body - are you going to blend it and sign it down or wield? Which is safer?

The ends of the side skirts will need to be reshaped to match up with the new arches, same goes with the rear pods and/or bumper, otherwise it'll bolt on as per factory.

We have moulded side skirts onto the actual body before, but for it to make any sense, you would need to modify the side skirts by cutting the front section off and have it attached to the front fender so that the whole fender can be removed if need be.

am i the only one that feels as though you're baiting for people to disagree with you so that you can try and beat them down due to their "inexperience" ?

I wouldn't be beating them down if their comments were constructive. I'd take in a comment from a lesser-experienced person with the greatest interest and respect if it was constructive, but somehow I dont consider people that have NEVER attempted anything before raving on how hard something is as being constructive.

Mate, I think you are seem to know what you are doing so go for it mate.

Why don't you post up progress-by-progress updates with pictures? I am really interested in how this shapes up.

Good luck.

so there are people who can adjust points and people who dont know anything... what about people who know about ignitions systems designed after the 1980s.......also which one of these two groups works on diesels cos last time i checked they dont have point or coils, or spark plugs... if you just weld these massive guards over your standard ones and actually want to fill them out with aggresive offset wheels you will either have to have the car at a ghey height (Ie too high) or have like 500kg spring rate so you dont smash your origional guards.. but whatever go for it it seems like you have alot of support....

Well that asks alot of questions. How the hell would u know what anyone on has done before?? Did you even think that maybe they tried something like this and advise against it because the level of difficulty to do it PROPERLY is beyond the skills of some sheetmetal workers and all amatuers?? A job like this would take at least 100-200 man hrs just to get it to primer and done properly. Just because youve welded guards on a paddock basher galant doesnt mean you know what your doing. Wheres the pics of your good work?? But if your such a gun with sheetmetal why did you start this thread?? Its evident by your attitude thats its your way or no way, so nothing we say will change your mind. Why arent we reading a build up thread of you having already done it?? Are you looking for approval?? Its pretty clear that everyone thinks it will look stupid. My skills with sheetmetal are poor at best but ive been involved with enough custom work to know what your proposing is a huge undertaking. You bang on about being "constructive" so tell us a clear and cogent argument of how to blend the commodore gaurds onto the car so they dont just look stuck on there?? IMHO it will look stuck on regardless as the corner and side profiles are just too different. My apologies to all for crazy long rant.

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the 2025 build re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I quite rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
