Needing more power from a VQ25DD Di. I posted it in this section because it's NA and I would like fresh opinions and ideas rather than everyone in the V-series section telling me to wait and get a VQ25DET or VQ35DE

I'm on my P's so nothin major

first performance mod should be a helmet, long shirt and long pants,

then go do some driver training

then go to the race track/ drag strip/ skid pan, do your best with what you got, when you "hit a wall" and cant improve, upgrade your suspension and brakes and tyres (track work isnt all about putting your foot down)

then go back to the track and try again, tune the suspension until it suits what you want it for

while you do all of this, plan and research what you want to do with it once your off your P's.

start buying parts for when your off your P's

anything other then that on your P's is not going to really improve anything, plus in nsw its 12 month suspension and 7 points for a P plater to drive with "prohibited mods" aka 15 months extra wait to modify your car when your off your P's

Need more power. lol. I learned to drive in an Austin A30 750cc and my first car was a KE30.

If you wanted performance mods frankly you bought the wrong car, there are very few parts available for the VQ25det let alone the dd. Best bet is to buy a half cut and slot the 3.5 in when you are off your P's.

you'd get more power from raising the compression ratio ( might cause detonation and ignition timing issues though so ask a performance shop about that) and getting the cams reground for higher lift, do a higher flowing cat and exhaust, cold air intake, if its a manual, put a lightened flywheel in maybe, and try to get the computer chipped or modded.. How will anyone know if you have high compression or a reground cam, its all internal..

there was a 300zx non turbo on here not long ago, it got down to 14sec quarters, search for what he did cause thats a quick P platers car..

didnt realise it was already 11;1, gees that really is a weak motor

VQ25DD - Leave it as is. Not much can be done to it. I think they have squeezed enough power out of it IMHO. It's already direct injection and high compression.

I'm suspecting your intake plenum is probably blocked up with lots of gunk from the EGR system (common issue with direct injection systems). I'd clean the plenum 1st, then get high flow air filter and a catback.

Damn straight. Shoulda seen the speed I could punt my 2L Datsun 1600 along at. It probably had a whopping 80hp at the wheels but pretty much nothing could stick to it once corners were introduced. TBH that car is still the most fun car I've ever driven. I'd give just about anything to have it back...

My opinion to the OP, leave it as is, spend as little as possible on it. Every dollar saved now is a dollar you can put towards something with potential once you are off your Ps.

i have found a few things here and there, but noting to write home about. according to wikipedia my car has 158kw (@motor) but if i could get that/close to that at the wheels ill be happy.

yeah tossing up between the following when i get my Blacks...if the world hasnt ended hahah

JDM U13 Bluebird SSS (SR20DET, AWD)

V36 350GT SP sedan

M35 Axis Autech Stagea

opinions?

you have 2 newer cars and 1 older car on that list. i would go the newer cars over the old bluebird. or go a silvia/180sx over the bluebird. they are better looking, lighter, and most likely the gearbox will be in better condition. if you want to go AWD sr20 then find a tidy example of a GTiR. or even just get a SSS pulsar with a turbo conversion done, or do it yourself.

You had it on a dyno yet to see how far you have to go?

i'd take a guess that he's 35 to 40kw short of what he wants, which is engine work realms of power gains.

Fast + P Plate legal cant be used in the same sentance.

Supposedly S2k's are supposed to be the quickest restricted vehicle and as good as they perform for a NA 4cyl they are horrendously slow even when compared to a mild turbocharged vehicle with an exhaust and abit of boost.

Save your cash bud.

Yeah that's my car, not a lot done mod wise just Exhaust, intake, underdrive pulley and a clutch. OP Learn to use the power that's there IMO, look at go fast mods when you can't go any faster on its current setup.

    • I’m here solo don’t have any hands to help so haven’t hit it with a timing light
    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).
    • Car is on factory injectors/z32 maf/ q45 throttle body/ z32 ecu with nistune
    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
