What is the criteria that needs to be met, to make an official sau event, be it a trackday or social style event?

obviously it needs to have a good chance of being finaccially viable, and it would need to go though the sau committe.

but what about insurance, what are the requirements there, and anyother requirements apart from help to make a day official?

I'm just curious, so that better suggestions may be given, if understood what is involved.

The club does insurance through AASA and CAMS. This is why ONLY official SAU:NSW events have public liability and thus can be called official SAU events.

Meeting the insurance requirements depends on the event type and how it is run. We know these organisations well and have established our credibility with them over the years.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that you folks don't see.

Nope, Josh, even our "Official SAU-NSW Cruises" have insurance. You never know when something unexpected might happen, and the club risks getting sued due to injuries and/or damage sustained by an innocent bystander.

They can be Ruxis. I use to run motorcycle rides but the caveat was, I'm going in this direction and stopping at these locations, you are welcome to follow me as individuals.

On topic, for those who have family/responsibilities and live 6+hours there and back away, nearly everything organised is unfortunatly unavailable. Jim's dinners are awesome but 8 hours traveling to go to work the next day doesn't keep the mrs happy. However keep running 3 track days at wakefield a year and I'm happy. Combined with other clubs is fine. The yearly drag event in sydney sounds like great stuff.

but is anyone responsible if its an unofficial cruise and someone kills someone? will the cruise organiser be in trouble?

Could I have been in trouble whilst running an SAU Event like the R32 GTR 21st? No, whilst stipulating that all road rules and the SAU.NSW Code of conduct were adhered to. CAMs covered us.

On the other hand, the organisers of the R34 GTR 10th (ie Eugene and yours truly) were sticking their necks out if say, one of our 72 cars T-boned another in our convoy - even whilst stipulating that road rules be adhered to.

Actually the Xmas dinner this year would work better for more people on a Saturday night due to people work schedule

That has been replaced by Putty Rd for 2012 Brett; but I agree that a Sunday night is extremely taxing on us guests that have to come long distances.

I wonder if a Fri night would work better (whilst Sat is out of the question)?

In 2013, Seton and Bowe are agreeable to be Guests of Honour.

I think sau vic is part of an interclub championship which holds rounds during the year, maybe hit up one of them mexicans to find out how they do it?

The local car club up here has a Tri-Challenge with two other clubs each year.

It started as a way to support the two smaller clubs and has grown in numbers each year with a round at the three clubs circuits

Maybe SAU could do something similar with say a Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi club to boost numbers and help with costs

Four rounds with each club hosting one event say a Wakefield day then a drag day and a hillclimb and maybe a standing mile or klm at an appropriate location somewhere. Points awarded for overall places as well as classes with points also awarded to each club based on members results with a winner at the end of the year.

Drivers must compete in the same car and (maybe) class all year to be eligible as this would stop those with money spending big between events to score a win

Could also maybe have a combined cruise/meet at the end of the year for prizes etc.

This way the cost is only for running one event and you should get numbers at each event to make a profit for each club

Just a thought anyway

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain. 
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
