Last Thursday morning, driving Western Ring Road n/bound (Melbourne), was being hassled by this maniac in a Kenworth. Flashing lights, sounding horn, sitting a car length off my rear bumper. I was moving with the traffic, not holding him up. Impossible for either of us to be going any faster. I tried to suggest to him that he was travelling too close, using the "tap brakes" method, and at one stage I gave a hand gesture to him that I didn't appreciate his attitude.

He finally moves left, and I figure he's going to overtake me and cut in front. But there's no way he could possibly thread a semi between me in my lane and the big van in the other lane. That clearly didn't stop him, and to his credit he did use the indicators, but he simply moved past me and changed lanes. Brakes, move right, just avoid the trailer's bogie, then I realise there's another trailer - he's driving a fu(ken B-double. MORE brakes, MORE veer right, and I can clearly see the markings on the concrete barriers!

After recovering from my heart attack, and changing my underwear, I was able to sit on his tail, below speed limit until the traffic thinned a bit, at which point I had to do 90 to keep up with him (it's an 80 roadwork limit all the way along this stretch). Finally passed him on a slight rise, and noted all the contact info on the side of the truck / trailers.

When I got to my destination, I contacted the company and asked for the Manager. Ended up being contacted by the transport manager, and expressed my concern at his antics, and suggested that this idiot is going to kill someone if they don't get him off the road. He said he would talk to the driver (big deal!). Offered me the guy's name / phone, but perhaps stupidly I declined. I figured I wasn't likely to be able to be civil to him, and I figured he wasn't likely to want to be civil to me - those types don't know the meaning of civil.

On my way home that evening, I also called into my local police station to report the incident. Doubt they'll do anything - police attitude to "dob in a [insert class of idiot / deviant here] " is "didn't see it, never happened, don't want to know", despite Ive got truck make, rego, company name, phone numbers. If it didn't happen, why have I collected all this info, and why am I wasting my time reporting it?

I've also written to the company's manager about the incident. And I've "Liked" them on Facebook - if I don't get a suitable reply, I'll be posting this incident on their facebook page.

I had a truckie in a b double try to overtake me in the left lane a couple of weeks back.

I was accelerating away from a now green light and here comes captan fktard pulling even with my back window and not yet indicatingbut starting to merge into my lane 80 odd meters before his lane ends then he is on the air horns and screaming out the window to move over ya cockhead. Had to move right a bit and drop a gear to be safe from this clownshoe.

Had my wife and her 62 yr old mum in the car so just grabbed the details and reported it also filmed it on camera phone showing him do it to 3 other drivers in overtaking lanes and each time from the left lane.

i love how truckies use the excuse "we can see much further ahead" as an excuse for tail gaiting. they seem to forget that while they may be able to see further ahead, they also have a much greater stopping distance. and half the time they get that close that the A: can't see the brake lights of the car in front, which leads to B: will have run over the car in front before they realise that the car in front had to stop in a hurry

Sounds like both of the above drivers were sitting in the right hand lane.

I do wish people would adhere to the "Keep left unless overtaking" rule.

That said, Western Ring Road in peak hour is so indescribably bad that road rules are useless and getting to the speed limit is a dream.

Yeah I was in the right lane as the left lane ended in about 100 meters.

This is when a UFH is so handy.

As a long retired trucky I can assure you I've yet to meet the driver who climbed into his cab and said, "Let's go run some cars off the road."

There's always some reason he's cranky with you.

So get on the UHF and ask the question, "Hey Richers B double, what's up your nose?"

You might get an earful from a Skyline hater or he might let you know that you cut him off back a few K's, either way you'll get educated.

I've been doing heaps of highway driving lately and I've found the quality of today's big rig drivers to be excellent.

They have 1,000,000 times more patience than I ever had.

When I'm on the highway, I sit on the back end of a big rig. Tell the driver who I am, ask if he minds me sitting there, then we just cruise at 100 to 105.

He'll be talking to his mates so we all know where the highway patrols and cameras are.

Hassle free travel.

transport companies, ring up, ask for the operations manager and take it from there, i worked transport for a while, this is the person you want to talk to if he is not available ask for the the fleet controller and mention if it is a rigid or a semi/bdouble/tripple.

clearly you were both in the wrong by antaginizing each other but, this guy has a massive truck and it is potentially a dangerous weapon. fyi it is illegal to cause some one to brake unnec eg: when coming up to an ending lane with lines, the person in the ending lane must give way as in they should phisically stop the vehicle not just indicate and merge but if the lane just finishes with no lines (lines just come to an end suddenly) who ever is in front wins the race, also just because you indicate to change lanes doesnt make you right, i hate people, when you are driving leaving a safe distance between you and the car in front and some nit wit jumps in front of you, i want to jump out of my car at the next set of lights and rattle out a clip into the driver, i'm sick of other drivers :/

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
