How sure are we all that this is the same car? And can anyone shed some light on the SAG dealers? As I have been enquiring about a MNP gtr they have just imported, the car is selling for 60k and hasn't been listed on carsales yet from what they have told me..would the best option be to check the vin?

Cheers

Dude, it's not hard to check the chassis number...if you don't want to believe us, then go right ahead.

It's not that I don't believe anyone, if anything I believe the advice given by members here on SAU more than any information that has been provided by import car yards. The only reason I asked is so I don't get ripped off or taken for a joy ride as I have been looking at purchasing a MNP Vspec and the current carsales advertisement with the stock wheels does indeed look like that of the Japanese auction pics originally posted by 'R31Nismoid' with a couple of mod changes which is why I asked if I should double check the vin to confirm that it's not the same car.

Chef, he has to be trolling....especially with a username such as "JDM.AS.FCK".

No one who could afford a car advertised for $60k could actually be that dumb to even consider giving that caryard a chance.

I think a few people have taken my comments the wrong way. I was simply asking for some advice and I have also contacted the op in regards to this car and the car yard selling it and have been provided with some very useful information as why not to purchase this car and others from such dealers. And no I am no longer thinking of purchasing this car or any other car from either of the businesses mentioned above after reading through various threads including this one which have been a real eye opener for me. It's not about being able to afford a 60k car it's about getting all the facts before buying one and yes I do have the funds to purchase the car outright. I am simply finding out facts about others who've had bad experiences with them before choosing who to go with. Like others have mentioned its not everyday people such as myself seek information through forums before purchasing a car, so I apologise if I was "actually that dumb" to consider giving that car yard a chance and it must mean I was obviously "trolling" because of my username.

Okay,

Why dont you just use a broker who will help you handpick a car from Japan.....? This saves you the hassle of inspecting cars locally (many of which have accident damage/other issues) and maybe youll save yourself from buying a lemon?

Go through Iron Chef if you want a nice R34. He is what you call a broker and his fee is $1100 from memory. He has the know-how and contacts to be able to be able to source you a very nice R34 GTR from Japan. He can organise buying the car from auction in japan, shipping, customs, compliance etc etc....

lol Benji are you gunning for a spotter's fee?!

All good mate. In terms of businesses' reputations, the easiest way to find out is to Google - don't bother looking at the happy customers with glowing referrals listed on their websites, it's how they deal with issues that are the true test of how good they are.

If you're looking at dealers, ask for either 1) the auction sheet or 2) the export certificate as evidence that the kms are legit. If they try and tell you that they didn't buy it from auction, then tread VERY carefully, as I could count on one hand the number of private sales done in Japan by overseas buyers. Auctions are far cheaper, and car dealers have never met a dollar they didn't like.

If you think the export certificate is photoshopped, (and some dealers are getting pretty good at it these days), then run it through JPEGSnoop or a similar program to see if it has been edited. If you still have concerns, then there are ways of finding out the correct export certificate readings in Japan (PM me for more info).

Hey be nice Kristian,

we both buy our personal toys privately in Japan as that is often the only way to get exactly what you want (it can take 6 months or more).

It does help you lived there and my wife is Japanese.

Generally only very few people can get a car privately and they are generally very special cars.

As to xport certificate - the new ones have new security features to stop changes.

On the otherhand - I have not seen an original in the past 10 cars I have complied.

Look at my R33 - it has done 652k's in the past 5 years - more than 100ks on the dyno. (sorry just being smug)

Haha I was wondering if you'd pipe up - you were the only dealer I could think of that buys privately rather than via auction. Handy having Japanese in-laws ;)

As for your R33, I think I've driven more kms in it than you have!

funny but yes you are right Kristian, you have driven more K's in it than me :) Especially at WTAC.

I would really like to see the market reflect the actual value of the cars - such as real K GTR's like your N1, Terry's N1 and other SAU members rides.

Many people do not realise that in some cases some of the cars already in Aust are cheaper than the ones in Japan.

People just need to realise that we are not the only people who love GTR's - The japanese love them as much as us and they pay big dollars for great examples - The same as we do. On the otherhand if it is a high K's car they tend to be "EXPORT QUALITY" and bought often by not so nice dealers - you know the ones - the guys who say "deal with the warranty company" when something goes wrong.

My rant for the new year :)

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
