Whilst I am a die hard PC gamer i still quite like the possibility of a media centre gaming console which I am hoping the PS4 will offer.

It was officially announced this morning (read comments section at the bottom)

Hopefully this time it will play MKV files and not just MP4 like the PS3 :-(

If only there was another device that combined everything about the PS4: x86 processor, PC based GPU, 8GB RAM...

Oh wait, thats right. You can just build a PC.

i love my PS3. bluray, media server, USB movies (before TVs came standard with USB slots) and HD graphics. might not have been a game changer, but certainly showed the 360 how it was done.

Just hope they improve the interface, improve Wifi speeds, and the hardware potential can actually be unleashed. But even then, it will take more than a few good games to make me want to spend decent money on the PS4.

Dafaq? All it has on the Xbox is Bluray. Xbox game selection pisses on the PS as does the Dashboard and Xbox Live.

Everything else is pretty equal.

also the youtube on playstation is terrible, terrible quality, terrible load times. my xbox works well.

also to the playstation has free internet argument

edit: about to turn into a big xbox vs ps fight

I like the bit about the RAM. With unified DDR5 and the fact that there's 8GB of it, whilst keeping in mind that it doesn't require the overheads that's involved with PCs, there's potential for a pretty wicked system.

I also hoped for some more technical details on the CPU - in due time, I guess.

The new controller has still got that old school resemblance, which is pretty sweet too.

OK specs have now been announced:

8 core CPU sounds good, gives us PC users at least ..... 4 weeks until we have a system well ahead of it :-)

Oh... and No i dont work for Toms Hardware, i do love their tech articles though, hence the links!

i'm a console game from waaaaay back (had a NES as a kid) don't give a shit as to whether you can buy a pc that is better than a console. there's a good chance it will cost you more too. and at least with a console you know that every game is going to work just fine and not have possible hardware compatiability issues, or you need to upgrade it every 3 weeks to be able to play the latest game that has come out. those of us that aren't computer nerds can just buy the console, buy the games, put them in and play away whenever we want. and we can take games to our mates place and not have to worry about whether their system will handle it or not.

consoles are perfect for those of us that where computers aren't our favoured past time.

Yeah, nothing the modern pc can't handle

That's true, but kinda not the point. I haven't had to upgrade a graphics card or a CPU or RAM during the 6 years I've owned a PS3, this is one of the appeals of having a console. I also work on my computer all day, I want to be away from it when I am playing games. It's not that the other can't achieve the results or anything, it's a horses for courses thing.

Yeah valid points

Don't get me wrong I spent many an hour wasting time on my mega drive II and ps1 I went halves in a ps2 bought like 3 games then tried rainbow 6 the original on pc and never looked back

If you upgrade smart don't get shit when its just released you can save a bit on hardware costs also

I haven't upgraded my graphics cards in 4 years so please stop spouting that crap.

The Jaguar is a competitor to.....the Intel Atom CPUs, low power consumption mobile style. So now not only PCs will bypass them...but tablets too and likely in short order.

Seeing as both the PS4 and the xbox will be nearly identical this time around it will all be down to games (and how quickly one is hacked to run the others).

Some of the possible licensing options for both the PS4 and xbox are pretty much ruling them out for me as media centres or game consoles. I have a MK802 that can play HD and a PC that has all my games on it. Shit, my phone can playback "Full HD" including MKVs etc.

Now that it seems like consoles are going to be built like a PC porting the games over between PC PS4 and X box will be much easier for companies to make. So hopefully this means less money on BS and more money on better games because out of the 100000 of games that comes out on all these platforms there are only a handful of good ones.

That's unlikely to change.

The crap ones will look a little nicer though.

the ps4 and the new xbox will be identical. The xbox will have blu-ray. All it will come down to is if you want killzone or halo TBH... Or forza or gran turismo. To be perfectly honest if you remove the Blu-ray player the xbox has been the top dog ever since release. (this is coming from 6 years experience selling the shit) so it will be interesting what sony does to the PSN to fix it. The Australian Gaming market is a joke though. The amount we pay for things here is through the roof. COD on release is $49.95 in america It's crazy.

Also anyone that says pc gaming is better is right and wrong. PC gaming has much higher up keep costs and to tell yourself differently is a lie. It also has more issues and the ports from console are usually bad. However. If you are willing to put the cash in and are happy every now and then spending an hour or two to get a game to run then consoles will never compare.

Oh also ill add: why the fk have sony not updated their bloody controller design. it has not been changed since the ps1 and its a terribly designed ergonomic controller.

In conclusion of above: a playstation fan will say that its the best, same with xbox same with pc. Its just how it is.

Anyway rant over: let the hate flow through you.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
