Good Peter,

This thread is delivering so far, for what it is.

It still needs to stand the test of time should something go haywire.

Hi Terry, yes it is easy when they are just taking your money the real test is if you stack it, this is when you find out if you have saved $$$$$$$$$$$$$$s, :/

  • 1 month later...

When i spoke with NRMA about this cover they flat out refused to insure me as it is not my secondary vehicle, even though i rarely drive as i live 100 meters from the train station for that very benefit.

They also said if i were to make a claim and it was discovered i did not have a primary vehicle, or the car was being used contrary to the policy (even going to the local shops, how stupid!!) then a claim would be rejected.

Sounds like they being quite shifty with this cover..

from the actual terms and conditions:

 we will not cover your vehicle if it is

• used on a regular basis for shopping, commuting to and from work, or to transport friends and family

• driven more than 8,000km during a 12 month period, or

• used for a business purpose or for hire,

The key word there is used on a regular basis

that's probably why they won't insure you. As you would have to use it to do shopping on a regular basis?

To say they won't cover you if you are heading to the shops at all is odd. I would say it has more to do with the fact you don't have another car.

Interesting.

I like a lot of people on here have another car that is used as a daily. The wording on the policy is interesting to say the least.

That said, as far as i'm concerned whenever I get into it, it's for recreational purposes.....

Also this ^^

To say it's for recreational purposes is very loose....

So.... Do you have to be going to an event or something to be covered?

If so that's silly.

I take my car out for random drives on the weekend (with my family. Wife and son). Am I not covered for this.

Perhaps we need a spokesman from nrma to confirm what a "regular" basis is.

I might drive my car to work maybe once every three months. Would it not be insured for that. If so I may as well cancel the policy. If I didn't do this the car might sit in the garage for 6 months at a time without being driven.

?

No we don't need a spokesman/woman/cat/mouse. I suggest you take a read of your insurance policy. They're just wording it so policy holders are not using their cars as daily drivers and are using it mainly for recreational purposes.

Again - read your insurance policy.

I have read the policy. And very impressed with nrma classic and vintage and their prices. Hence the reason for me starting this thread.

But in all honesty (as has been said in above posts) the words they use in the policy can be interpreted many ways.

Just don't use the car as a daily driver and you're insured.

Enjoy the cheap insurance for your second car that you use mainly for recreational purposes, doing limited km's per year.

i can 100% confirm you can drive your car to work and to the shops. I confirmed it when i signed up.

You just can't be doing it on a regular basis. I said i would be doing it max 1 time per week. They said that's fine and insured me.

They also insured me as a 22 year old with a GTR insured for 35k.

In saying all that....

They don't look at your KM's each year... and ACT doesn't have annual RWC.... So how do they know i don't do like 20,000km a year? (i would be lucky to do 5,000 lol)

I believe NRMA will do random 'audits' and get the KM history from the RTA. Not that hard to find out...

Pink Slip station writes down the ODO each year.

Different if you 'swap' out ODO's, but how many times can you get away with that lol

Mate, i kid you not. I told the lady i live less than 100m from the train station. She could check my address. And one stop on the train gets me to 2 major shopping shopping centers that contain everything, again, extremely close to the station. She also said some stuff about oh if i had an accident i would need to use the car and that would breach it as its not allowed to be my primary car.. seriously (though there is a hospital 1 stop by train too!). I do not need to use my R33 for ANYTHING regular. The only regular consistant thing would be getting petrol once a month or so.

There was absolutely no misunderstanding of how i use the car she just flat out just wanted to deny it. :(

I would call back and talk to someone else. And if you still get the same answer, ask for a manager to confirm it 100%.

I don't recall the girl I spoke to asking me much, except for it not being a regular used car. Didn't ask me about a second car at all.

It says straight out it can't be your primary vehicle and is to be used only for recreation purposes, ie. Can't be used for shopping, picking your kids up from school or sporting practice or commute to work

NRMA after your car has been in an accident, can request for Odometer Records from Service NSW < formerly RMS < formerly RTA.

This is how they'll secure data that's tangible - in black and white.

Post #172:- djvoodoo - Dave - alluded to that.

NRMA after an accident, can also request for registration of your primary vehicle.

This will also be tangible.

Thats what i mean though...

ACT doesn't have that system. They don't record any of that. The RTA (Shopfronts) have no idea what KM we do here. No annual RWC or anything lol

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
