im not fully educated on the topic, but I wouldnt be surprised if the government changed the scope of NBN when they found out things were getting way too pricey and out of control.

nope

one of the liberal election promises they thought NBN was good but did not think it needed to be that fast.

one of the classic quotes at the time from a prominat was you could only be doing illegal things if you need internet that fast.

What are you all crying about? The article clearly states that any additional funds will be raised from private investors & not government.

So relax, your precious tax income isnt being spent.

Also if you read the article instead of shouting that the sky is falling, it says:

"While 20 per cent of premises will get fibre connections, 38 per cent will get fibre to the node and 34 per cent will access the NBN using the hybrid fibre coaxial cables that supply Foxtel services."

HFC connections offer gigabit speeds & not the doomsday 25mbps.

f**k me, everyone has turned into a telecommunications engineer/capital coordinator.

Fibre to node is on 25mbps under 800m

It hasn't beetn future proofed.

What is going to happen in 10 years when the standard is live hologram business meetings etc?

Don't look at today's technology as tomorrow's solution.

Who knows what breakthrough will be next. Mobile internet is getting faster and faster. 5g mobile is 1 gbps.

& according to the above only 30% would have access to FTTN. And only a percentage would be far from the node etc.

Everyone treating fibre like its plumbing or electricity but there are many ways to transfer data.

Not to mention the advancement of data compression which would reduce bandwidth needs.

This is true, hence what martin said (that I agree with) it should have been done properly or not at all

exactly right but when a gov takes 10 years to roll out technology that was out of date when they started...not ideal.

Oh and FTTN for first 18 months is only guaranteed 12 Mbits..that much money for 38% to get speeds they were getting already.

copper can only handle a certain amount having it in a NEW infrastructure is a joke.

the old plan of 93% getting FTTP worked, now just they should have dropped it if they were putting in this system.

Well if money is a constraint & a solution can be delivered which meets today's needs for majority of public - then I have no issues.

Spending more money to future-proof technology is ridiculous because no one can predict what's around the corner with technology.

Perhaps we all go wifi - turn all the nodes Into fibre wifi hotspots & with advancement in antennas we can stream fibre speeds to mobile devices.

Who can say that a physical fibre line to your house is the only future.

Nothing but a big beat up by whinging opposition. Brunswick has FTTP & I bet none of them have connected fibre.

It's not a beat up. $50b IS being spent on tech from the 90's

$27bn capped government spend. The other half by private investors. What private investors spend their money on is not my problem.

Only 30% population will be forced onto FTTN. Big woop. They can wait for the next phase.

5g will happen as mobile data is a large revenue stream for telecom companies. No need for government intervention.

Yeah, and we currently have to pay like $100 for like 6gig of 4g... can't wait for telstra provided 5g :P

1) It's 38%, you quoted it yourself

2) stop trying to make it sound like 70% is getting the good stuff by omitting percentages.

3) what happens if the private sector doesn't fund it?

1) 38% - not all will be kilometres from node etc

2) FTTP & HPC technology is pretty good.

3) Considering government has funded half the investment for a service far greater than today's speeds & no other options on the table - don't see why people won't jump on board to invest.

I might be joining you guys Leigh and Adam on two wheels! Maybe..

I don't do the two wheel thing anymore

Not saying I'll never get back into it

But too many crashes close to home

Feel it's only a matter of time and love life too much to risk it when there's plenty of fun without that risk or significantly lesser risk

Sure is unbeatable fun for the first 3 months of Ls though

Yeah and I wasn't exactly an angel on a bike either; should have gotten to the track much sooner instead of cooking brakes on the mountain passes at 1am.

I think everyone should get their Ls though, it's a great lesson in fragility on the road and awareness of surroundings especially motorbikes.

I've had my Ls for a year now, get off restrictions next month. Have been riding in the dirt all this time. Am just getting the last pieces of gear so I can take my dads GS500F for a few rides. But an opportunity has popped up to buy an unregistered Ninja 636 that I'm thinking of jumping at because cheap as chipzzzz

More lulz less complaining pls

Never shot a gun in my life, going to a range to try 13 of them today

Wish me luck

You'll surprise yourself with how good you are at it

Oh wait you're not in Australia...you'll be using big calibres and be average at it lol

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
