Just looked it up...does look nice and factory. Wonder if the LS upset the handling at all...apparently doesn't bother the RX7s too much. That's probably something I'd say excessive / tyre frying. Be happy with about 200rwkw in an MX5; would be plenty to have fun and keep it tractable on the street.

No, LS won't upset the handling since it's light being all aluminium motor.

Surely the standard 1.8 is alloy and half its size?

i was more talking OEM engines, not swaps.

if we swapping I'm sticking with a  426 hemi,
cos fck yeah

The LS works as it's compact and lightweight, also readily available for not a lot of $$$. why not an ls7 or lt4/lsa if you wanted to go nuts.

Leigh considered a Megane RS?

These things are seriously fun, well equipped and good handling cars for the money

MX5's are freaking amazing when done well. I kinda want an SE

GF has the SE. Did the alpine road this weekend, made a 3 day-er of it.

Seriously fun. Has AD08R's and coilovers on it now, it's just such an active car when you drive it hard.
One day it'll have a tune and make ~180rkw and yeah I'll probably deliberately write my 34 off over a cliff and buy three of them.

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
