Do you think the Garmin toy is worth the money? I've been looking at it for a while now but the price always makes me wince.

I don't even know how much they cost lol...

Just played with one on the day and thought it was great.

Logs Gs, speed, position, etc. Very cool and overlays the footage on top.

I'll wait for the Garmin guys to upload the footage and I'll share it.

I guess it is aimed at track day not racing, easy to install and use but not the sort of functionality you get out of a proper logger like IC3 or motec stuff

Different requirements I suppose.

MoTec stuff is race grade with telemetry and all the car's data. However not as easily accessible via a touch screen like the Garmin with instant playback, stitching of best sectors into a theoretical best lap for you to do.

Very good bit of gear and yeah the price is a bit up there, but getting a racelogic or q Starz you're already half way there without a camera.

Retail is $1,700 but can be found for $1,400.

Flames, I like the flames. Need to see more of the Garmin before I'm convinced it's good value.

if serious its worth the money, Racechrono with a bluetooth gps is best bang for buck for 97% of people.
At $1400 the garmin is going to make you faster but to get even better at much greater expense going to need a lot of sensors on the car TP, Speed, Brake pressure, 3 axis accelerometer, steering angle and shock travel, tyre pressure & temp (internal & external) PLUS someone who understands it all and driver willing to listen and take it in.

If at the track once a month minimum Garmin is good value.
Maybe once every 3 months Racechrono and GPS module.
If just want to be a baller sensors on everything with a good engineer.

What everyone needs is a weekend of professional instruction & coaching then seat time, seat time, seat time. I have found that more useful than gadgets.

I reckon there is a place in the trackday market for data that is easily accessible (ie, you don't need that engineer). I find lots of interesting stuff in the data but generally it is that night rather than between sessions.

With this you can clearly scroll through particular parts quickly/easily so that is good. Also you could always put it in a faster mate's car and see what they are doing that you aren't.

It's level up but when we did Bathurst 6 hours we had an engineer comparing data from all 6 drivers in 3 similar cars, everyone got something out of it

@Dose Pipe Sutututu this guy obviously regrets trading his 33 for a euro trash box. Don’t do it.

Random news, my mate's S15 with a GTX2860R Gen 2 went back onto the dyno for me to retune since his last motor let go (stock).

Now has a 9:1 comp built motor, with now smaller 256° Tomei Japan Poncams in lieu of the 258° Fake Tomei US Poocams (which aren't event Tomei to begin with).

Car makes somewhat similar max power at 252kW (managed same 1st time I tuned it at Haltech but had lean out issues) but has picked up power throughout the rev range. Has done a 270kW on the same dyno but on a 10° cold day.

Makes 1.2bar of boost at 3000rpm and by 3500rpm has 180kW to use. Over all, timing is much flatter than before with 21 degrees of timing peak power.

Note, this car is a Wakefield Park/Luddenham tracksloot/Wet Skidpan/Weekender kind of car.

I did convince my mate he should put on a bigger turbo, the smaller duration cams and higher comp has really moved everything to the left (not a bad thing).

He messaged me last night and said the drive home made his hands all sweaty LOL.

That's some good info there. My new sr is 9.:1 comp, kelford 188a cams and gtx g2 2867 so should make a bit more and be almost as responsive 😁

Interested to see how it goes on track.

Should be a weapon mate!

The upped comp just makes the SR much more urgent, especially with VCT.

The power comes on so hard and fast, I suspect very fun to drive and also not very good at trying to maintain traction lol.

I had to tighten the straps on the dyno as it lit up the RE003 coming on boost.

Oh please you won’t sell it 😝

Oh trust me I would if offered the right money..

I'll even give them all the new door seals, plastic trims and shit that are sitting in boxes.

  • Haha 1

If skylines are actually selling for what they are asking for on carsales, now might be the only time you can actually get what your car is worth. Very strong chance it would be the best R33 gtst in all of Aus on the market if you put it on carsales now

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
