@GTSBoy very nicely done, you also have too much time LOL.

My old white R33 had Focal 165K2 and I sandwiched 2x 16mm MDF sheets together and made something similar followed by painting them both in sound deadening. Door proceeded to get 2x layers of eDead (Dynamat knock off at the time).

This car, the fronts have had the stock plastic mounts attacked with a Dremel lol. I think I might get in touch with @Fhrx (hope you're still around Marty) to do my front stage and make a nice slim enclosure for a sub in the boot that also covers up all the SSR shit and surge tank lines.

I’m also looking at installing audio in the 33, so keen to see what you come up with (as I seem to copy your stuff)…

I was looking at one of those kicker 8” tube subs and mounting it above the fuel hat or maybe an under seat sub?

Since you're not running a fixed bucket seat, you could fit 2x nice under seat subs.

My friend has a pair of Alpine PWE-S8 in his SWB Pajero and they actually sound decent. Of course you don't get the nice lows of a proper driver however they are quite musical for what they are.

Oh yeah, cleaned the rear seats with the Bissell.

27 years of Japanese, Aussie shit, piss, grim, whatever has graced the rear seat.

Haha, that's pretty rank! We actually picked up one of those just the other day. Waiting for some warmer days now so that the seats get a chance to dry whilst still in the car.

Kind of related: do you have any idea what the brown stains are on the carpets in Japanese cars? I have seen it on quite a few imports. Never noticed it on other cars or maybe just didn't pay attention. But, what the hell are people doing? I was thinking maybe it's chewing tobacco or something like that. Boggles my mind.

I dare say it's rust water or motor oil. Imagine going to Pick & Payless and going through a wrecking yard full of Commodores and Falcons. They're filthy at best and usually have a nice set of forklift marks under the chassis lol.

Our cars are no different back in Japan.

Ooo, that sounds quite reasonable actually. You may be on to something there. I think I can live with that explanation :)

Coffee stains

Right, so it's the Japanese smoking coffee in their bongs. That'd do it :D

  • Haha 2

dunno if you’ve ever been there but they are obsessed with coffee, you go to the local convenience store and there’s at least 25 different types of cold coffee in the fridge and then there’s the other options as well

@R3N3 I run 2x Clarion marine amps (1x 4 channel, 1x mono block for the sub) they have a super small footprint and produce enough power for my modest audio. They now have a 5 channel marine amp, which wasn't available back then when I bought these.

Headunit has been upgraded (some features went backwards such as time alignment) with a Pioneer A5450BT. Has wireless Android auto. Reverse camera, went with an Amazon special 1080P one, as the Pioneer one is a CMOS sensor and would in theory output a lower quality image.

And update on the SSR and surge tank wiring refresh

What does the just send it button do?

Adjustable rev limiter 😎

7000, 7500, 8000, 8600rpm

The idea was for skid pans to set a "max" wheel speed. I found in 2nd at 8000rpm+ there was too much wheel speed to hold a slide with my crappy driving LOL.

I have a couple of spare 12" subs and amps laying around 👀

Modernisation of Shit Box Part 839231.

Since the rear trim was pulled off to run the reverse cam, new RCAs, tidying of wires and shit, I decided to sound deaden the rear quarters.

As you know, these shit boxes have 0 sound deadening on the rear panels, not even a simple oddly shaped pad to absorb any kind of vibration!

Bought some cheap eBay crap to do both the outer and inner skins. This should greatly reduce road noise, unpleasant noises made by the car externally, etc.

Not the best job, however you can't see it and the trim will be reinstalled after re-tinting is done.

Will be removing the rubbish 2000s super dark tint that has gone purple and going for a more legal tint, also means I can see when I'm at SMSP at night lol.

I was about to be double offended you turned down my lunch date offer...

Also what rice body kit bits can we add to the missus Tiguan to make it look less mum spec?

I see they do a rear spoiler add on which would help.

I can't see how sticking stuff onto a VAG would make it look better

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
