I'm more inclined to fit a ZF8HP to the shit box, just because it's nicer to drive and has much more capabilities than a sequential dog box.

However, low chance of either, too much effort and money lol

Really, effort is pretty low.

You hand fistfuls of cash over to someone else and pick it up when done...

And at least this shitbox isn't drinking coolant right? :P

They’re so great that I know of someone pulling one out to go back to a sequential

Let me guess, they make heaps of power, use the car for straight line driving and don't care about noise

They sound like a legend. 😛

Would be good in your car I reckon Johnny. Have seen reports they don't seem to love circuit use and sustained high RPM, but there's so many variables and implementations it's hard to tell fact from fiction.

All that said, is it worth it in this car given how you feel about it? Probs not?

I think you’d be surprised who it is

A birdy on my shoulder is also telling me to do this....

But then the thought process goes, if our shit boxes are selling for $35,000ish and M240i's are now dropping into the $35,000ish range.... do I wave a magic wand and turn the shit box into a M240i? Then I get the ZF for free and it comes with a free B58 and a modern container to put them all in.

Would feel very strange not having the shit box around though after all the time I've dumped into it.... but the thought is getting more tempting with each day.

... could put one of those detachable tow bars on the M240i and tow the bike to the track... can't do that with the shit box.... I dunno.

The longer I procrastinate though the cheaper the M240i's get, I assume there will be a cross over point one day where I pull the trigger on it.

So swap an appreciating asset, for a depreciating asset?

Also, there's a build on here where someone is towing there bike to the track using an R33...

Yep that is a factor for sure. I wonder how much further the gtst's can go. I wouldn't be surprised if they are relatively tapped out and only the GTR's continue to grow. But then again my crystal ball doesn't work too good.

I've never seen a R33 towing a track bike, that is interesting though.

If the GTR keeps climbing to ridiculous out of control prices, it will drag the GTST up as time goes on. Those who cant drop silly $ on the GTR, will then start to drop big $ on the GTST.

I agree, and it is already happening if you look at the new members from the USA, lots of GTTs and even GT no T being picked up because they find/afford a GTR

And I don't want to crap on their enthusiasm, but goddamn that is dumb. The money they're paying, for crapy old Dattos, then having to scrounge to find parts (and, being Seppos, they simply MUST upgrade and/or factory restore every single part of the car within 2 weeks of buying the car!) is just silly. "Oh, it's my dream car!..." </wistful, dewy look in the eye>

Look, let's be honest, 20 years ago, people in Australia were doing the same, except it wasn't Japanese brands, it was old Holden and Fords.

They're a different breed of people buying these cars now, compared to how we view them.

meh, buying a car is an emotional choice, the car makers started it and we all hooked onto it.

But yes, people don't know what they are getting themselves in for buying an old car with all their available budget, then finding out that was only the start of the spending

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
