I've noticed that R32 gtst's seem to have come with either amber or clear side indicators. Which was the latest revision? I'm looking at buying a rh side replacement and I want to confirm the one availalbe from nissan (26124-01U00) is the amber as that's what I already have and prefer. Thanks.

Nah. Most GTSt are amber. Typical examples

You do see some with the clears. I've never really bothered to work out why they exist. It might be that it's the early GTSts (like '89-90) that had clears. The various adverts for genuine clear indicators say that they only fit GTSt guards, not GTR.

Nearly 20 years ago this was something of  a hot topic!

I'd love to know the actual timeframe and models they came on. My 1990 gtst has full amber indicators. Happy to hear most were amber. If that's the case, I'll go ahead and order one and report back.

Looked into it more, and it seems the 89-9.91 gtst was part# 2612401U00 and 9.91+ was part# 2612408U00. I'm presuming one of those is the full amber vs clear/side amber.

My 1990 as already mentioned is full amber but I'll go see if there's a part# on the indicator.

where are you ordering brand new GTST indicators from? they are discontinued aren't they?

They are or where but they popped up on Amayama again as available. I regretted not getting one two years ago and didn't want to miss my opportunity now in case it's a fluke. I ordered the later model one. I'll let you know if it's the full amber one, once it arrives.

nice, look forward to the update

Series 1 R32's had clear indicators. Series 2 had amber indicators.

Keep in mind R32 GTRs were designed and released almost a year after the S1 was released, and they came out with amber indicators as they were moulded from a single piece of plastic (to save weight - because racecar). The original plan was to have clear indicators with a tiny bubble in amber for road regulation compliance. Once the GTR look became popular, they made the clear bit amber too in the S2 - albeit still made from 2 pieces of plastic.

A very very common mod was to change the S1 indicators to update the look. Also didn't help that S1 indicators very frequently cracked around the bulb fitting and you ended up with condensation inside.

The designers went back to the original intent of all clear headlights in the R33.

Yes that's also my understanding. My S1 had amber indicators but I'm presuming they were swapped out at some point. I went ahead and ordered the S2 indicators.

Amayama just informed me that they're still discontinued. No idea what happened with their system but I remember them going from available to discontinued roughly 2 years ago.

Strange that it reset itself to available again, but it was clearly an error. Aw well, it is what it is. Cheers.

Just Jap stock an aftermarket replacement

I guess you'll need to replace both to match but they are cheaper than 1 from Nissan (if they did exist)

Holy sheet.

$200 for a broken one!

pretty sure I’ve got a couple of sets in my garage. Better wrap them in bubble wrap instead of being tossed into a box of random stuff.

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
