  1. That's because he's encouraging you to exercise a little logic. Do you buy a brand new car or do you buy the same one from Japan with low kilometres at a significantly reduced price and slightly better featured, as evidenced by the specs? It's a no-brainer. I, personally, would never buy a car brand new. The fact I bought my '09 SP coupe back in late 2011 with better specs (namely the bigger rims) at a fraction of the Australian '12 G37 is evidence of the better value I got and the less I stand to lose over time in depreciation. I understand you're excited and all but if your brain is working overtime, then you need to take a breath and keep a cool head before you make a decision you'll regret. Take it from another grumpy old fart.
  2. For position memories (seat and side mirrors), vehicle must be in Park, parking brake is not essential. Press the Set button momentarily then press and hold the desired memory position until the light extinguishes itself. To recall, under the same conditions, press the desired button momentarily. I play with VDC quite often. It switches off traction control and remains off until the car is stopped and started again.
  3. As in it keeps dropping without ever coming back up? If so, then it could be a bad switch. Do both windows do the same thing?
  4. Graphite. Slate blue looks really elegant but it will be a bitch to maintain.
  5. Excellent advice from Junkie and seconded. Though I do prefer to detail my vehicle with my own manual labour (as I don't trust myself with any machines to buff with for the fear of burning the paint), I do realise that one day I'll need to take it into a pro for that once in a while additional pampering. The key is to finding one that you can trust and that's not always easy. I've had the good fortune of being friends with many in the automotive industry who have had plenty experiences with various detailers and can give me trustworthy advice. Once you find them, establish a good relationship with them!
  6. There are several threads in this forum which already answer these questions.
  7. Handbook suggests eight seconds but the process is still the same, so you got it right regardless.
  8. As sonicii stated, dark coloured cars are harder to maintain though they do look damn sexy. As for the ground strap, dust and motion sickness thing, if you believe that, you'll believe anything, even a politician. The only benefit to a grounding strap is avoiding zapping yourself getting in and out of the car. I have observed no other benefits to these things and I haven't bothered with my V.
  9. If this doesn't reek of dodgy, I don't know what does. Import straight from Japan with the assistance of a buying agency like Prestige Motorsport, as I did. Dealerships are for new cars only, if they are to be trusted at all, not second hand and imports.
  10. So it's not just me then.
  11. Go black on silver. I like my plates to blend in with my vehicle's duco. That's why I have black on white.
  12. Are you thinking of setting up a cage to sit around that basket so that nothing pierces the cone?
  13. I use Penrite HPR5 5W40 in mine but it's a VQ37VHR motor. At any rate, I've always used either Penrite or Amsoil depending on the required viscosity on all my vehicles. Never had an issue.
  14. You didn't do enough reading it seems. 1) It works but you need an FM band expander. 2) Yes. 3) Never had the interest in this to read anything about it but from what I can see in my 2009 V36, no. 4) Yes, if you can find a GPS with at least a composite video output. You won't have the ability to use the OEM touch panel. You will only have video (and audio if the GPS has audio outs as well). 5) Experimenting with a couple devices I ordered recently. Chris is not impressed by the resolution and scaling of them. I'm hoping I'm trying something different, otherwise I'll be just as disappointed. 6) If you saw it and there's no further information, I suggest you either ask again in that very same thread or wait for someone to update it. No point in raising another thread, as you have done. It's just not good manners and it clogs up the forum with just more of the same clutter.
  15. What superben said. Perfectly logical.
  16. I always wondered about the region because I've played region 1, 2 and 4 without issue. Obviously region 4 was the greater surprise since it is PAL format. Considering mine works even when driving and the wiring loom was not modified for the handbrake and vehicle speed sensor, I'm wondering if my headunit has been modified somehow.
  17. I'll take it one step further with the GTR mods to say that it will make the car look cheap and tacky because it's pretending to be a car worth way more than what it actually is. If you really like the GTR look, then the only way is to buy a real GTR. Otherwise, you will look like a fool.
  18. So work a little harder for a little longer to make it worth your while. Fine wines do take time, you should too. What's the rush?
  19. The CF only works for audio (MP3 and WMA). Video is only via DVD or the auxiliary input.
  20. Stereo is tightly integrated into the vehicle so don't think you'll have an easy time replacing it. You can look up my thread "How to fit an amp in a V36", or something like that. I have a bit of a write-up of what I did to mine. In a nutshell, I maintained the OEM head unit, upgraded the speakers, installed a DSP and amp, added a custom portable subwoofer box with its own onboard amp and use a Sony NW-ZX1 audio player via the auxiliary. Pros of a 2009 V36? Looks nice, performs great, hugs the road even with average tyres. If you change your mind about the transmission and decide auto, the 7 speed auto in the '09 is really good. Cons? Stereo was a pain in the bum to work with but worth it in the end. I'd recommend getting one with the Bose system fitted for the sake of making your wiring job much easier than mine was. I don't see any other cons with mine yet.
  21. Paging Dr Chris Rogers.
  22. I forgot to mention that this also means that their EIPS feature finally works too. I never liked the idea of the car still running without the key. I understand the merits but I prefer anti-carjacking in its roundabout kind of way.
  23. Good to see they and/or DEI got to the bottom of it. You still didn't answer my question though.
