V35 Fuel economy problem?
sonicii replied to Classic_Aussie's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
are you basing your figures on how much fuel you are actually putting in the car? or what the fuel gauge says? Fuel gauges are usually not accurate enough to use for judging economy when they are working well. Fill the car, reset the trip meter, drive for a few hundred KM then fill the tank again, you can then work out your economy based on the distance you travelled and the amount of fuel used. My 6MT is usually in the mid 10L/100km with 100% light urban driving and mid 7s on the highway. If you are really only getting 200km from 32L of fuel, this is quite bad, coming in at 16L/100km unless you are almost always in heavy peak hour traffic. -
I didn't think that was a problem on the 350GT? only on the early 370GT?

Automatic transmission to manual conversion

Fair enough, but I suggest you do your research first so you know what you are in for -
Automatic transmission to manual conversion
sonicii replied to 57jam's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Maybe, you probably need to leave the auto TCU in place so the ECU doesn't through a huge hissy. However, the ECU wiring will be the least of your hassles, search for threads from others that have done it, it is a huge job.. just sell your auto and buy a manual V35! -
Fairly sure the CVT V35 sedan also had paddles

^^ agree with this, regardless of the solution, ensure the brakes are properly bedded in to prevent the issue re-occurring. The tyre guy is correct, an unbalanced wheel will cause a vibration all the time, not just when braking.

How to fix small led lights in headlights gt350?
sonicii replied to Robinhood's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
^^ wondering this too, unless someone has retrofitted them. Wondering if the OP means tail lights? -
it has the low volume import sticker on the passenger door jam, so it will be a V36 370GT, it has just had Infiniti badges and driver airbag swapped on. As you say, it would never have passed compliance as it is, so would have been installed post import, unless someone has done a dodgy.

SRS airbag light keeps coming back when cleared
sonicii replied to Kap's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
^^ this.. light comes back on because the fault is still there, you need to find out want is causing it and repair it. -
VQ30DET into 350gt coupe???
sonicii replied to BASHERnissan's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
^^ this.. .unless you want to spend $$$ blazing a trail, then use the experience of others. Plenty of people have boosted a VQ35, some have done LS1 swaps. There has been a couple of VK56 swaps in a 350Z, but I believe it is very tight and not really cost effective. -
V36 models built/sold during the time they were available locally will be ineligible for import. Anything built before that time will be. The V36 350GT sedan was only available early in the V36 run, well before the G37 was sold here, so will certainly be available for import

Tensioner and chain guide
sonicii replied to FEAR NO BEER's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Sorry, no idea about the tensioner. I am dreading the day I need to do a tensioner or water pump on either of my VQs. I have had the a noisy fuel damper and it was a constant knocking sound that changes with engine RPM, not just at startup, so if that is what you have, it might be the damper, hold onto the fuel hose on the right side of the engine while it is idling, if you can feel it pulsing in time with the knock, this is probably where the problem is. -
Does the security light stay on while cranking? these are the symptoms you will see if NATS can't read the key chip, or reads an unrecognised chip.

V36 with Grounding wire kit
sonicii replied to V35_Paul's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Just a quick question, did you clean up all the factory grounds first to give a good comparison? I haven't known anyone who has installed grounding kits on the skyline specifically, but from prior experience on other cars, results have varied from 'awesome improvement' through to 'no noticeable change' depending how good the factory ground connections are, even on the same model vehicle. -
it is a 350GT... a GT350 is a mustang.. I would start with removing the battery terminals, cleaning and refitting, as it sounds like a bad connection.

Cruise Control sending car into Limp Mode
sonicii replied to Gavel's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
The CC I have in mine basically splices into the throttle pedal sensor, so the CC just simulates the throttle input, if yours is the same, then I suspect either the CC unit is faulty, or the wiring harness used by the CC has bad connections. Mine went into limp mode on hard right turns at one point and it turned out to be a bad crimp on the CC harness, I removed the connectors and soldered all the connectors and the problem never occurred again. -
If you have ever removed the factory HU, you will see why that is impossible, you require the AC controls to suit the double din fascia.

Since your looking at a sedan, the 250GT is also the 'base model', comes with a 4sp auto only, etc, but you can usually pick one up very cheap. 350GT in the sedan only comes in the 'premium' version, comes with a 5sp auto, 6sp manual, also comes with a CVT but be wary of these as they are an orphan type of CVT and very few people know anything about them if it gives you any grief. the VQ35 is not direct injected like the VQ25, so you won't have the issues of the intake gumming up every 40-50k km. Probably easier to find parts too as mechanically they are near identical to a 350Z. Personally I would go with the 350GT if you have the option. my 6sp sedan returns around 10.5L/100km with light urban driving and around 7.5L/100km on the highway. Not sure what the 250 would do, I suspect a little less.

03/04 VS 05/06 Problems
sonicii replied to Oliver.Wong's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
early 6MT had some issues with weak synchros, the 05+ have the upgraded CD009 transmission with triple cone synchros on 2nd, 3rd and 4th which fixed the issues. has nothing to do with power handling ability. the V35 Skyline never got the revup version of the VQ35DE like the US G35 and the 350Z did, so oil consumptions shouldn't be an issue on the V35. My 05 6MT with 150,000km doesn't need any top-ups between services, it might drop a couple of mm on the dipstick at the most. I believe they also may have improved windows motors too as they don't seem to have that issue either. -
Reasonable Price For V35/V36
sonicii replied to Oliver.Wong's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
V35s are getting quite cheap these days, I have seen some early coupes priced around $10k or so, but would expect something more in the range of $15k+ for a 2006 model. I would also expect a range of prices for the V36, depending on the age and spec. as above, maybe around $17k for a 07 model, going up from there for newer and/or high spec examples. -

2003 v35 Steering wheel harness
sonicii replied to Zx14rider's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
There should be a plug behind the airbag for the factory stereo controls and either a corresponding connector or pins on the back of the steering wheel housing. Not sure which pins are which though, sorry. -
you need to find where it is coming from. is it engine oil? transmission fluid? power steering? Are you sure it is even oil? could it be coolant, or even just AC water draining out? I have been using 5w-30 in mine since buying it, it now has 150k km with no issue or oil consumption. There is nothing really special about the mechanicals of this car that you need a 'V35 specialist', but maybe just look for a Nissan specialist if you like, mechanically these are identical to a 350Z.

V36 AT Gearbox (07 Sedan)
sonicii replied to colin.ssc's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
sorry, not sure. I wasn't aware the TCU was built into the transmission, if the ECU has hassles with it, then I would be tempted to swap the TCU if it isn't too difficult, otherwise, if it is common to swap TCUs with a transmission change, then hopefully there will be a painless method to pair with the new ECU, or maybe the ECU won't care what TCU it talks to? either way, I guess it will need further research.
