Cheers for that mate yeh it mustve been when smashed by previous owner its a coupe.

Another question-Can and will the series 2 dash with optional passenger airbag and steering wheel with airbag be fitted in a series 1 without too much fuss? I havnt driven the car in near a year and a half and was considering doing it up for my missus but dont want her and my daughter driving a car without airbags.

I think the dash pad would fit, read a thread on here where some couldnt fit a non air bag wheel onto his car that was meant to have an airbag (he didnt know till the wheel wouldnt fit) and i think the electrics for the air bag would be a big task to sort out, not having air bags is one thing but having an air bag that goes off randomly because it isnt fitted right is pretty dangerous in its self.

haha this is true. iv got a series 1, but am looking at replacing the steering wheel

Dont bother with a S2 wheel, your wheel is non airbag and the S2 has an airbag.

that is definitely a S1 front, no such thing as a S1.5 front, S1.5 is just a mix of S1 and S2 parts, from what i have seen, S1 front and engine but with S2 interior.

Not sure about the tail lights as i dont kow the difference's in 4 doors, judging by the year though i would say its a S1.

not quite true as other people have said. s1.5 are s2 engine and wing, s1 interior (with 1 or 2 small changes) and body. not sure about 4 doors though

Are you talking about the 2 door coupe there?

If you are there are infact a difference between the s1 and 1.5. 1995 came out with whats commonly called "m-spec" front bumper. Similar design yes, but its still a different front bar.

If you talking about the 4 door then im not sure...and ur probably right.

there is no m-spec front bumper for the r33. m-spec is a r34 gtr model. however there is a type-m r33 though. this is pretty much every r33 gts-t, except some of the turbo 4 doors.

Whats the difference between the S1 and S2 engines? how can u tell which is which?

as people have said, the afm, ignitor/coils, turbo compressor wheel (s1 has steel, s2 has nylon), TPS

I dont think the ECU's are interchangeable, aside from the igniter the AFM is a different part number (has a pink sticker instead of green?) as well

ecu's are interchangable. i have done it

Hi Guys appolagies for above post ( i had a microsoft moment)

Just thought I'd through my 2 cents in, as I've noticed some perculiarities with my R33 gts25tm

Fairly sure its a S2, some people have told me its S2.5 is there any such thing

E-ERC33-130310 ( fast lists build date as 02/97 but my plate says 01/97 ???)

Some details hey, ill try and cover everything that varies

S2 Headlights (buld + lenz) the front of these were badly frosted when i got the car, a bit of metal polish bought them up sweet (looks heaps better now)

RED S badge on dimond mesh grille, not on bonnet, I cant see any evidence it ever was ???

metal nismo badge on boot just below key hole

Skyline panel on the back is color coded

No seatbelt thingy for the driver, thought these where std???

S2 Bar (Round Fog/Indecator) + lip spoiler

Side skirts, not sure what type

300KM nismo dash with white lights(thought white went out in S1), also NO dimer :-(> only areal sw and a lovely blank plate, down there anyway ???

no rear wiper/switch

3 child restraints (yes i have a 2yr old .... he loves dads car) outer 2 come out through speaker grill

rear strut brace above parcel shelf not in boot :-)> also through the speaker grills

anyone else with this setup who wants to change the back speakers, don't bother, it's not pretty

V-Spec sticker on boot, I thought only GTRs came in Vspec ( sticker is sporting apropriate miles, ie matches the otherone for age)???

large dump pipe with lots of heat shields

3" exhaust (more heat shields) cant remember brand of muff, will have to look lata

2 Airbags

S2 ECU , no lights

cigi lighter and ashtray have lights

high wing, not GTR type

RB25DET

5Spd

ABS

HICAS

16" rims

5 Seat capacity , stamped on both plates, nissan and import

titanium cover in boot key hole

1 coin/cup holder behind shifter

no sunroof (praise the son of rajab.... had 4 cars with em... not a fan)

MOMO Airbag wheel, height adjustable

Razo knob

wow big post!

will post photos soon(needs a wash)

any toughts/corrections apreciated

Hello there ..

My Skyline is made in 11/97 (according to FAST), so one of the last ones.

I have never heard of a S2.5 :D

I have a sunroof and I LOVE IT! (and wanted it) :D

I have anti lock brakes as well (ABS)

Unfortunately no remote entry system ..

(I will add this myself)

Your Nismo dash might be a private after market add on I guess.

My headlights are very shiny:)

I'm the first owner after the guy who drove it in Japan.

The certified mileage is 55,000 km (judging from the interior this could actually be true)

Going by the year it would be a S2, never heard of a S2 2.5 and everything that is not standard just sounds like someone has added it before you owned.

didn't think so

Yea I 2 loved my s/roofs till the leak(lost a 900 buck CD player once to an indoor waterfall)

Love the ABS nice and smooth

I haven't pulled the instruments out yet (had most the rest of the boot/interior apart though), but everything else seems to be factory, the car has all the little clips n stuff, nice even coats of dust on the back of things (all those littlethings that tell you if someones been there b4 or not, PS I used to to stereos and alarms 4 a crust so I've pulled a few apart), only thing ive found was and alarm and timer have been removed from under the dash at some stage. I get the feeling from the "V-spec" sticker on the back and the front badges that the jap dealership was involved. Do the bonnet badges have locator pins on them???? if so I should have evidence of holes , but I don't. curious

My main concern is the instruments, do the 300k dash normally have a dimmer or not ?? My old N13 pulsar uses the same switch, so the plan is to take the switch, the N13 Wiring diagram and wing'n it. The lights are fine with out a dimmer but I do like control. I don't like them blank plates either, makes me feel Im missing out

Did find a mitso POV under the hood yesty avo ?? It's quiet to by the way

I'll post some details when i sort this dimmer.

cheers

can anyone confirm any differences netween the suspension of a series 1 and 2 ?

i know the lower control arms arnt the same the s2 runs the same arms as the r34 so if you ever smash one make sure you ask for s2 ones or r34

hey all.. i just want to check.. will a series 1 front bar fit on a series 2 front?, headlights are a little different around the top and the part towards the grill (more curved).. but looks like the bar goes straight across like a series 1?.. or wont fit? thanx

Can anyone help me out and confirm this as well?

I'm looking at finding a S2 R33 front bar for my S1 but don't want to get new headlights, guards..... bonnet..... etc etc.

So does a S2 front bar simply bolt up to a S1 without further modification?

Series 1 - front bar, steering wheel, with airbag, interior (velour) but with updated pattern (not quite as dark), rear badge (clear plastic and silver letters, not colour coded).

can't remember if its been mentioned, but the S1 airbag steering wheel was an optional extra, meaning "legally" can be replaced with a non airbag steering wheel.

Are you sure, i thought S1's didnt have an airbag option and S1.5's came with drivers side standard and passenger as an option and S2 had both standard?

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
