Roughly how much would I be looking at for a full retune onto E85? Obviously depends on where you go, and how good the tuner is....but for arguments sake, let's say Yavuz @ Unigroup...just wanna know if I can afford it just yet :P

talk to pat, we got mine running pretty good in a couple hours.

I bought an E85 tester the other week so i tested the E85 i got from the United at Rozelle.

Turns out (today) its E90.

I will be testing every time i fill up now, just to make sure its consistent.

And to my shock that the E85 at Rozelle is mixed by the guy driving the truck! If he adds too much of one and not the other do you think he is going to tell anyone??

I suggest buying a tester, just so you know what you are getting.

I've posted about it before, but the ethanol analysers (which you can mount in the tank) that can be used to switch maps are a good idea if you don't want the hassle of doing anything manually.

good idea. any link to or info on the tester you bought? price?

I'm installing a Zeitronix as we speak:

Zeitronix ECA

Also indicates fuel temp which is useful if you have a big fuel pump system and are sitting idling during staging or in heavy traffic. I also have a fuel cooler fitted with a thermo fan activated at 50C.

oooo Gav is onto E85...

You going to use Sucrogen or Powerplus?

Have used Powerplus so far. Very happy with the increased response that the extra mid range timing allows. An extra 50 hp top end also doesn't go astray

I've gat a quick connection fitting betreen the lift pump and the surge tank that allows me to drain the main tank when I swap between BP98 and E85. The main reason I'm fitting the Zeitronix is that I can tell exactly when the replaced fuel has adequately flushed through the entire system before I adjust back to high boost and revs.

Any reason for Powerplus? I just went Sucrogen because it was cheaper :)

Did yoda tune it? I'm thinking about taking my car down there for a run on the dyno because I know he will love it haha

How much was the Zeitronix unit if I may ask?

Filled up at Lilydale (Eastern Melbourne) Caltex EFlex pump today, it went in a week ago. My wideband showing me its the same mix as the Springvale outlet so it seems Caltex are still delivering E70.

Caltex corner of Ferntree Gully road and Blackburn road definitely has its Eflex pump fitted.

An up to date list is on this site.

People running E85, what do you do for O2 feedback? Is the narrowband O2 sensor(s) useful at all since stoich is different for E85 where the sensors would be expecting normal pump fuel?

Stoich is stoich.

My stock computer uses the narrowband still, the Emanage takes over at 2psi with the map sensor. It doesn't use the wideband while driving, only for the tune and logging.

are there any single intank pumps that will flow enough for e85?

i'm not looking at pushing huge power, my GTR is around the 350rwkw mark now on 100octane but i'm wanting to put 1000cc injectors on and run e85 to see if i can get a little more out of the mid range and probably aim for 380rwkw

cheers,

You should pick up 30kw or more just putting e85 in the tank. With more boost and timing, 50 or 60kw is easily possible.

You are looking at twin 044's at that level, I think the nismo/tomei pumps also max out around 350kw on ethanol.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
