cerbera, thats REALLY interesting! very informative! i had to read it a few times before it sank in though. could you draw the pics? how is it that you know so much and in so much detail? you teach it?

Engineering lectures were only fun when you could visualise concepts and apply them to cars :P

Seriously, rather then getting caught up in the physics of it, grab a dedicated text specific to race car aero which simplifies the physics using good empirical data and common practices to get you close quickly.

But agree 100% with Cerbera, you need to try and reduce lift at high speed, and then use the basic and obvious stuff on the top side of the car to try and give you a little downforce. By reducing the lift you can get the same amount of downforce without enar the drag that really hurts the cars acceleration over 230km/h.

Trying to get downforce using under car aero is going to send you broke :)

Hey, if i had of dropped out i would never have had the opportunirty to be working in India....oh, yeh, maybe i should have dropped out too :D

And yes, all the fashionable people these days love RB20s, cant wait until my new motor is finished...will wipe the smiles of all the faces of those that said RB20s sucked :)

wow those pics of the mspeed car are extremely interesting. in fact it really isn't that far from standard as we may have all expected. Yes its got custom upper arms and centrelock hubs but other than that the geometery is not that different. certainly much more standard that the one brad is about to embark on.

next time someone is under there we need you to get under the car and take pics of the chasis side mounts for the lowre control arms, the upper are pretty straight forward. And we need a pic of the inner end of the rear upper and lower arms too. do it for the internet!

Now, back to what you are allowed to do....

flares up to 100mm wider per side over the front and rear wheels

splitter (push air over the car) or air dam (keep air out from under the car) up to 100mm forward from the original front bar lower lip

undertray can extend back to leading edge of front tyres (so the ones posted above are not strictly legal, and nor is John's)

rear spoiler up to 200mm high and the width of the car (spoilers have relatively high drag)

or rear wing 500mm high, up to 100mm of the back of the car, 400mm deep, no more than 2 elements, max 1600mm wide

rear diffuser extend back 100mm

spaceframe cars (not gtr) can have flat floor between a pillar and c piller

none of this will matter unless you intend to do full racing - no-one will worry about it at a supersprint or similar

the ikeya front LCA's are a piece of gear! it's hard to capture in photos how nice they are, and how different compared to stock. you should get a photo of one next to a stock LCA and castor rod for scale. :P

Yup... My party fund is pretty much all but depleted now.

I'm going to have to hold off on the whiz-bang suspension for a few months I think.

Old arms will be sitting in a box in my garage... What did you want?

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
