tried a few practise launched today in the lead up to a few hill climbs coming up

car is 32 gtr

-303awkw

-5 turbos

-twin carbon clutch

did a couple of launches around the 6500 mark but evertime i dropped the clutch the rears chirped for a milli second then took about 20m before the turbos came on boost in 1st. too me this is shitful with a car with this much power.

whats the best way of building boost or whats the go in getting this thing off the line somewhere near boost!!!!

i got 312awkw and if i dump it at 6k+ it will smoke the tyres for about 10-15meters, its hard to keep it off the rev limiter. But it deff dont bog down with no boost. I dont no whats up with that

Just holding revs in neutral, will not produce enough air flow, to make enough power to stop good tyres from gripping.

Don't just drop the clutch, slip it a little.

so should ibring it up against the handbrake or something?

off the limiter and sidestep it.

thats how my wife used to launch with around that power. She did 1.690 60' time and ran 11.9 @ 121 with Federal 595 road tyres.

6500rpm is not allowing the shaft speed of the turbo's to be high enough when the rev's drop on clutch bite. Just give it a couple of pops of the limiter and drop it. You will have to keep the hand on the shifter as its a quick change into 2nd with a STD gearbox.

I drop mine from 9000rpm and it hooks up and goes,

When launching though we load the driveline up againist the brakes its stops the shock load going through the front diff and tearing the teeth off the pinion.

Not overly great for the clutch and takes alot of practice when you dont have a handbrake but its the only way ive found to keep the front diff inside the sump and all the teeth on the shafts.

6500 on cold tyres 7000 on warm tyres is what i used in the targa car before the pfc pro, hooked up really well. only need 6000 with the launch control.

only use 6000 in my r32 to protect the clutch, on roadies it hookes up well. Boggs down with r's on though

Preload it against the handbrake, blip it up to about 6500 to 7000 (creates a little + pressure) and lift your leg off the clutch quickly as you can, not side step it. Bang against the limiter for a second or so until it stops wheel spinning, then bang second home.

My kilowatts must be ALOT more manly than DirtGarage's, coz with 313RWKW mine did 11.13 @ 128.5mph on a 1.8 sec 60 foot with a set on concrete Avon roadies :D

you got to slip the clutch fast to get the fast 60 foots

if drop it u wont get the time.

if u make fast boost from say 4500rpm u wnat the revs at 6000rpm and slip the clutch quickly so u end up with clutch out on 4500rpm ready to fly

my technique netted me 60' times of 1.38 and 1.37 back to back last week so i must be doing something right.

Ive always been 60'ing quicker than the street tyred cars in the HPI list (except MJ)...all cars there had more power and less weight than me too.

John Munro had his clutch line fitted with a line lock kit...he would depress the clutch, press the line lock button on the steering wheel activating the solinoid, lift off the clutch, and take his finger off the button releasing the solinoid to drop the clutch on launch.

this is how I launch the race car, but only 5500 to 6000. Personally the need to protect the clutch is more important that a tiny bit off the line because it still has to last a whole race. Its a little under full boost on my turbs because its not fully loading it, but it is realiable way to launch.

Loading the driveline up by letting the clutch slip a little for about a second before launching is important to make sure nothing breaks.

Ask Ben (Brad's current car) what happens when you take all the tough talker's advice and just dump it at 8000.

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive 
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
