haha I was worried for a second... There is an tiny slit that goes back inside the turbo, as per the picture.

Why worry at all, if it isn't prone to surge then surely that is good thing. The tiny reliefs should take care of any slight tendency.

I can't wait to see the results.

Sounds like a defect/EPA waiting to happen mate, really hope you don't get pulled over...

You should make 300rwkw on PULP though either way. 260 is rather conservative and a normal GT3071 will do that.

Why defect waiting to happen? Yeh 260 is conservative. Keeping engine in check. But 260 on this dyno is like 290-300 on others.

every dyno 'reads low' mate. its the new black. so pay no attention to such claims.

but you part list, is a walking EPA mate. In Vic you need to be smart.

No AFM is a 5 sec giveaway check for officers

non factory airbox is another when combined with a FMIC.

fuel rail, same deal. dogs balls obvious

then once they see the above, they already know you have ECU etcetc.

300rwkw should be almost undetected if parts/mods are chosen carefully.

I'll have 300rwkw next week... should i get defected, and given its super stealth i doubt it - it'll be in a passable state in less than 60mins :)

Where you'll haven half a day of swapping parts if not more and you stand a very high chance of getting pinned, and lead to them taking photo evidence effectively screwing you.

its just how Vic is these days sadly.

I've already been pulled over. They saw air box giant "tuned by AVO" sticker on it. Front mount. Full exhaust. BOV. Plumback of course. Etc etc. No issue. I got canaried cos my rhs headlight was hazy. He wanted to be a prick and that's all he had to pick on. Everything I've done is legal. Everything I want done. Is legal. Fuel rail etc etc. Is legal. It is not illegal to modify a car. Just has to stay within EPA. If they test my noise and emission levels I will pass. I still have a cat. I have no screamer. Apart from fmic. Outside of car looks standard. I dont have gauges or a hand controller for my ecu lol. Open the hood all is stealth and legal. Box is enclosed. I only have one intake mod. My fmic. Only issue they may have is not seeing AFM. easy fix. Attach it again. Run loom to anywhere and attach. They won't know better at a glance.

And this Avo dyno does read low. There are people on these forums saying they have 220rwk same setup as me. Running less boost. Some say they are breaking 200 with standard ecu. Exhaust and fmic.

Ive dynod 2 days apart. One at HPF. one at Avo. Temps only a couple degrees apart. Hpf read 192. Avo read 171. (before my rescent mods getting me to 191 at Avo)

I KNOW Avo reads low. The facts are: a dyno is good to see your gain. Fullstop. Therefore I'm aiming to gain about 60-70rwkw with this next set of mods. Whatever the top rwkw this dyno gives: Who cares really.

Sorry but you are grossly wrong about legalities.

I hope for your sake you don't get EPA'd. What i said above, is 100% correct whether you believe or it not (or the people telling you are legal, admit they are misleading you).

I take it you came here to learn... So when you ask for advice/input, don't dismiss it with 'i know better because that's what someone told me'.

If that's your belief then there is little point in asking for pointers in the first place to be honest.

A lot of guys here including myself have had many setups and been in many situations over the years etc. There is plenty of good knowledge here, best part is - its free. We want people to get value advice to help you. not line our pockets ;)

You can change a turbo in 60 minutes?

Rail is a modification to fuel injection system, instant fail there even if you use standard reg and injectors. Same goes for ECU, if the stock one isn't plugged in and visible, fail, if they suspect it they will unplug your AFM and see if it stalls, if it doesn't they will go looking for the ECU. You can get good inspectors and get lucky, but it has happened to people and if you want to be 100% ADR compliant you can't have those things, if you want them they will make you do a full spectrum emissions test, not just an idle one and that isn't cheap.

Haha. Ok no worries. I won't even get into where I got my info from. We will be arguing in circles. About who's right and wrong. Also. I do appreciate info given from everyone here. Please don't get me wrong. I don't wish to offend anyone. Is there a specific Vic roads link or sumthing regarding mods. As I would like to take it to where I got my info and see what they say.

But back on topic. The new turbo should be awesome. Only problem is getting that power to the wheels. I'm getting a cusco 2 way LSD. Thatl help. But at the end on the days. I need much more rubber. Ha.

After reading the last few replies, you really should just listen to Nismoid on the legalities....your car WILL NOT be legal without having everything engineered and a full (read again: FULL) emissions test.

This is what you are after, it covers everything all the relevant ADR codes which you can manually look up etc, this is what they use at regency when approving modified vehicles.

I can guarantee you 100% that your mods are not passable and if you do pass it is because the inspector is lenient and has let you off, this does happen but only for minor things, try and go through with an aftermarket fuel rail and you will never pass. I did an engine swap and filled out all the required paper work, had emissions test etc and I still had 3 guys simultaneously going over the entire engine bay, they even questioned the turbo as it had been rebuild and was sandblasted whilst everything else was dirty, they followed every vac line, checked the injectors, the colour of the label on the AFM to see if it was a Z32 absolutely everything, I am fairly sure they have 'skyline' inspectors lol, he even pulled my ashtray out to see if I was hiding any boost controller etc in there.

You specifically want to check out the engine one:http://www.infrastru...1jan2011_v3.pdf

Vic also has plenty of additional stuff to deal withover and above that... ive been on the receive over it all many times, only reason i know it all so well, wasn't by choice he he.

Lol. Thanks for eveyones advice. I'll go with bigger injectors without fuel rail. What else do you suggest? I have to be AFMless. Do I just readd it to the piping to add a bot of an illusion? How is everyone getting away with mods. Eg how are you doing it?

Wow i just had a quick glace at the link above for vic roads and engine mods. Sucks to be u guys. There a$$holes. Must be run by greenies

Your telling me. It's getting to the point where's it's just plain stupid. I've done everything pretty stealth I thought. Now that I've bailed on the fuel rail idea. Only issue is AFM. What do I do about that?

    • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
