Many of you have ticked the box on the membership form over the years…..so here comes the first in a series of Tech Nights!

Topic: Tyre Basics

Date: Friday 23rd September

Time: 6pm until 9pm

Location: 75 Long Street, Smithfield NSW 2164

Agenda:

6:00pm – Members arrive for finger food and drinks

6:45 – 7:00pm – Members are seated and ready for presentation

7:00 – 7:45/8:00pm – Tyres 101 training presentation including questions and prizes

8:00pm – 9:00pm – After presentation members are free to leave or stay for further questions and discussions

There are a series of these nights coming provided by our sponsors, so we have decided to cover the most fundamental item first – they are round, black and smokey, and we bet you have spent a fair bit on them over the years. But how do they work, what happens to them when you drive, and what should you look for when buying?

These nights are provided by our club partners for club members only; you are however welcome to join the club on the night.

It’s important to remember that while NTW are hosting the night, this is a technical discussion about tyres not a sales presentation.....so come along and learn about one of the most basic but important things on your car.

What if your not an SAU member (yet) and wanna go?

These nights are provided by our club partners for club members only; you are however welcome to join the club on the night.

You can join on the night, and quite frankly, if you attend events, the cost of membership is recouped veeery quickly.

OK, more good news for this evening.

The topics to be covered include:

• The basics – Learn the tyre “lingo” and find out what the markings on your tyres mean in plain English.

• Construction – Find out what’s on the inside of your tyres and how they are built.

• Treads – Compounds and designs – how they affect the way a tyre grips and responds.

• Tyre maintenance – Some tips you might know and some you probably don’t about getting the most from your tyres.

As well as feeding us, NTW have organised lucky door prizes and a tour of the 50,000 tyre warehouse. Also, attendees can enter the competition to have your car included in the upcoming Federal Tyre catalogue

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
