just went to look at a new GTi.

I could not believe how bad the service at the dealer was.

avoided answering questions. fairly simple ones.

ME: when the performance pack is coming out,

THEM: OH GTI's are very popular you will need to put a deposit down to get anything.

ME: what is the lead time if I want XYZ

THEM: Oh you should be happy with any we can offer you as they are very popular.

SO I had looked on their site and they have some optional wheels that I liked more Lighter and wider.

ME: How much are the wheels I saw on the VW site.

THEM, oh I couldn't option them, the normal ones are too popular, you could get them from the spare parts department later if you wanted but we could get you some cheap tyres to put on them!

ME: How much is the sunroof on one

THEM: the GTI is a very good buy as they now have capped priced service.(!!!)

ME oh ok how much is the capped price service

THEM, OH we have not set the price yet but is is sure to ber very cheap. I can tell you the price of the Series6 GTi but it won't be the same.

so frustrating.

what a rubbish sales person. ask to see another or go to another dealer, surely there is more than 1 VW dealer down there?

had asked a couple times and no answer so moved on.

After not getting answer no-way I was buying from that dealer, but hoped to get some of the other queries answered not not make it a complete waste of time.

I'm with Dezz I woulda made a point about them not actually answering the question but I'm kind of upfront and discourteous like that, don't really like salesman obviously dodging shit. All you got from that is that the GTI is popular?

At least you didn't buy from em. Next VW dealer you go to, tell them how your experience went at the last one? Should make them drop the templated sales pitch.

That being said, it could be true that the GTI is popular and they are selling enough not to give a shit about answering questions. I remmeber when I was looking at bikes a few years ago and no Kawasaki dealer would give me a Ninja 250R test ride without a deposit because they were new and selling out before they hit the dealership. They have no f**ks for customers unless you were going to buy something that was on the showroom floor.

those wankers at VW were the same when I bought Merowyn's golf...

after dropping $25 then going back a few weeks later to the same salesman and not getting ANY service... left my contact details... twice... with the message I wanted to buy a golf R and he never even called.

basically same pitch too... all they did was essentially explain to me how they didn't need my custom...

and now I drive an evo

lol @ VW's 80s marketing

Can't blame them, though; there's not exactly a shortage these days of people wanting to finance their way into sub-Euro so they can feel like they own a Beamer/Benz.

VW salesmen see this and use the classic tactic of denting the ego by making them feel like they can't afford / aren't important enough to be a VW customer?

looking at the pics from the Syd 34R meet... we all know I go on about 1 particular model, but 29 specimen of the same model variant, you'd get pretty over it.

*crack open bonnet*

woah RB26, no shit!

nice rear diffuser

thanks

...

ah so you went for the single turbo?

yeah it's a precision.

yeah I can read.

you know it's an exciting meet up when people lose their shit when a car in red and also a car in silver turn up.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
