Told her about the sale bit... Don't think she wants a car that can break her hips!

Picked up new turbo...and so begins my quest for teh power and teh E-flex. Question...install myself or pay OTR $250 to do it? Seems like an easy job but I always run into trouble and woudn't mind playing COD while someone else sweats over my engine bay.

If I'm gonna settle for something in the middle I'd just go back to the 250 ninja and learn on that, upgrade to gixxer after 6-9 months

I've sat on my mates 250 Ninja, more upright position like yours than the real deal Ninja and other supersports..

There's a nice Ninja at my work every now and then, green which isn't my style but a tough looking bike..

I'm leaning towards an all black 2009 gixxer though, not a fan of the newer gixxers, something about the front just doesn't do it for me...

Just man up and get the gixxer, I kinda wish I did now but still happy with my bike. As long as you survive first few months should be fine.

Get the manifold taken off, and change the studs whilst it's being done.

Will cost more, but likely you already have at least one crook stud in there :D

Yep good advice this, I already have new studs and genuine gaskets ready to go on at the same time. One of the nuts already free spins from memory :(

Enjoy getting any broken ones out. I had 8 in total broken. Gotten 7 of them (one is being a tight as f**k c***)

Tried drilling pilot, them 5mm drill to left hand thread drill piece (easy out)

They all came out like that (easy)

This one won't really budge. Used shitloads of rust of ice, tried hitting it with oxy. No luck. :rant:

Keen to just throw it together with the one not on. (did it on old motor for same reason and lasted 3,000km (till motor blew) but thats not good enough. Want to do it properly.

There is my rant anyhow.

Cheap as well which is awesome considering how much of a headfcuk of a job it is to do if you dont have the tools.

Got new sway bar links cos one of them was clean snapped, spent 1hr trying to fit just one side to the hardest setting on my sway bar with no luck... Surely there is an easier way? Anyone know any tricks? Used the trolley jack pole to move the sway bar and still nothing....

Likelihood of getting pulled over though? (When not riding like a Flynn)

You will get done for riding on a large bike while on your restrictions if:

1. By chance you are pulled over for a check perhaps for something else and they realise

2. They drive behind you, check the rego and note that the registered owner is not licensed to ride the bike. This can be avoided by getting someone else to register the bike in their name if you can convince them

3. You crash the bike. Insurance won't pay out if you're not licensed and I count that as 'doing yourself'

I've know multiple people who have been caught while riding on their restrictions or who have written off bikes while on them

but you'll most likely crash it since your still learning on it...

Lol exactly, I found the time on my 250 was priceless... Although I think I was a special case. Getting your knee down on the Black Spur on a 250 that is the sloppiest bike in the world isn't what most learners will be doing.

I'd recommend just dealing with a less powerful bike for max 15 months. It will do great things for your skills and you don't have to look over your shoulder. Once you're off them it's like it never happened.

can't you weld a nut on it and go from there ? then again if easy out didn't work i don't think anything will

Havn't done much welding and the studs 'tend' to snap approx 2 threads INTO the head so I don't know how u would go welding onto them with minimal space and surface area.

Ended up getting the last one so all good. :banana:

    • So, this shouldn't be such a mission, but there were a few tricks so I thought I'd post up a DIY for it. This was on a Q50 Red Sport but I doubt any other V37 model is very different (maybe just less steps for the intake heat exchanger hoses) I pulled the radiator out to flush it because the car was running hot at the track, but obviously the same steps apply for changing a radiator for any reason including an upgrade. If you are removing the radiator, you of course need to drain and refill, so have 5+ litres of blue coolant ready. You don't need to drain the intake heat exchanger to remove the radiator but depending on your plans you may need a couple of litres for that as well. You will also need something to deal with the auto transmission lines, I used 2x 8mm rubber caps on the radiator side, and a short length of 8mm pipe on the car side.....unless you can block these lines quickly you will loose AT fluid and it may be enough to hurt the transmission if you don't refill it. Other than that....lets go... "First, jack up your car". Yes really, and put it safely on stands. If you are not confident doing that you need to give this job to a mechanic

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
