rb26

i have done a search, and know what i can get, but want to shop around for the best prices, also would like to hear peoples own experiences/opinions of the different kits

somewhere around the 500 to 600awhp mark would be fun :)

Prices tend to vary week to week with some places, so what was good 6 months ago won't be good today.

You really need to do your own investigations RE: pricing.

As for what stroker is best - as above, answer the questions.

car will just be a weekender with a little bit of track work + 1/4 mile runs - would love to hit the 10;s down the 1/4

budget is really depending how far i want to go, im still undecided how much cash i want to throw at the car

turbos will be whatever will get me 550 to 600 with minimal lag, i dont want a lag monstor, but i still do want some top end....and like i said before i want to hit the 10;s (running standard turbos atm)

10.99 or 10.00 ?

There is a sizeable difference between the two, and depending on the state you live in, if you are faster than 10.99 there is a whole wad of cash you need to allocate to having a car that fits the tracks requirements (as most are still living in the dark ages sadly).

So you really need to start by setting a budget...

Also do you realise such a goal can be done (and has been) with stock 2.6l capacity many times over and fairly easily/cheaply?

^^ This.

Whats your budget first and foremost? A 10.9 is achievable rather easy and reliably on a forged 2.6. For street use and drags where your going to be launching off the mark I cant see the need to spent the extra $$$'s for a stroker kit, yes it makes a difference but then you would be asking youself the question why not go rb30 ?

Again this depends on factors like the current condition of your crank etc. If its in good nick I'd just be getting the crank linished, fit a collar onto it, sort oil issues out by getting a good pump, sump baffles and restrictors, forged pistons, rods and whack a nice big precision turbo on it to get you 400kw+ and the 10 second pass your looking at.

if you're not a purist and don't mind an RB30, speak to Rob @ RIPS NZ, he has engines ready to go from time-to-time, people start projects, don't finish them etc etc... his RB30 builds are super price competitive when you compare to a 2.8 stroker.

Stick with the std crank and enjoy the 8k left in your bank to do 10-12 track days or go on a holiday with the change. You will still have a bonkers fast car with a properly sorted 2.6L. But if you must surely the Brian Crower kits add up on the performance vs cost stakes

yeah, there's definitely some cheaper options out there now than the Japan stuff. BC, MGT Racing in UK has a 2.8 kit, approx 3500 GBP from memory, then there's Spool (AUD help there as well) - very little info though on the non-Jap 2.8 kits that i could find...

although, i was told be a bit wary of the BC stuff...

Yea but knowing race pace, you mite as well buy a jap kit, because it will most Likly be cheaper than the gold plated parts u get from race pace

That's a bit low Deano.

Atleast they work... IE the exhausts unlike the junk you get off the shelf from Japan. :P.

    • They are, a good friend of mine bought one to replace his blow factory turbo, running a Toshi Tune reflash. Just use their supplied water/oil lines and you're good to go. At the time, they were like $900 delivered.
    • This is an option for 100% bolt on, the GCG high flow -  https://gcg.com.au/turbo-charger-upgrade-skyline-gtst-2iu-xtrgts-s1.html Also, I'm pretty sure hypergear does a high flow that is 100% bolt on, it just doesn't make as much power as their bigger high flows.  Even if you get a hypergear turbo that requires you to chance the intake piping, it is a really simple modification. It can be as simple as a piece of silicon hose and you pop a filter on the end. It doesn't have to be some crazy pie cut titanium work of art intake pipe.  If you have the ability to swap the turbo yourself, you would be able to sort the intake piping out.
    • Just as a thought, if it's in neutral, thats your drive line disconnect, not the clutch. Clutch slip at the dyno with pedal fully out, is actually adding a second disconnect. So it's not a clutch issue if you're in neutral. Just a bit of friction dragging the output around while in the air.
    • The HG high flow is excellent, and costs about the $$ you're talking about. But it, and probably every other highflow, uses a diffeent core than the original turo, and the original Hitatchi core is quite long. So, I think it is inevitable that there is likely no such thing as a highflow that just "bolts on" with no other effort required. And the same is likely true for HG's outright replacement "bolt on" turbos (the ATR things). And the same is likely true for anything similar from elsewhere. I have no idea if the cheap Chinese/Taiwanese complete turbos from eBay/Temu/etc are as bolt on as they claim. I mean, they claim the bolt onto the NAs as well as the turbos, and we know that can't be "bolt on". But it wouldn't matter because I'm not buying a $169 4 psi turbo for anything other than a paddock basher.
    • Bummer...yeah i "need" something to "ease" up the work and for my driving it would be enough.    Iam counting the tune "without" turbo. I do not mean "cheap" like something from Temu around 200 USD, "Cheap" is something around 1000 USD?
