cars like this make me think, "why would I buy a falcodore over this?"

parts for accords and camrys are as cheap or cheaper...but you have to order them from the US..same goes for alot of euro crap too I believe..

Yep. Aussie cars (Aurion, Commodore, Falcon) offer excellent performance per dollar. New vs. New, in the same price bracket. No Japanese car or Euro car can match an Aussie car for engine performance and kit. The only thing missing from Holden and Ford is the perceived quality. If Toyota Australia can do it, why are Ford and Holden behind?

oh and i'd love to be on 55 to 60k a year. i'd also like a 3% per year pay rise too, but i don't get that.

Would be sad to see no more Commodores and Falcons on the road because of the heritage they have going back such a long time, and I grew up during the beginning of that era of Commodores versus Falcons; after all the Kingswoods and Toranas.

But the writing was on the wall. Year after year of Large segment decline (in the local market at least). Everyone moving to SUVs and small/medium sized cars.

What do you reckon? Will anyone else miss them besides the die-hard V8 supercar fans? Will they make a comeback in another 20 years? Do they deserve to?

We came up with the hypothesis yesterday (coming back from ACT) how those with a towbar put/already on the back might maintain demand some time after their demise eh?

I believe manufacturers are compelled by law to make available spares for like 12 years after a car stops being made. Or something to that effect.

On top of that, just look at the people pumping out bits for XR/W/Y's, HZ/Q/Ks etc, etc, Mustangs, Kingswood and so on and so forth. There are so many EA-BFs and VN-VFs around that the aftermarket will pick up slack once the manufacturers start rolling back support.

Only because of Import Duty, GST and so on.

Take the 15% tax off the Jap/Euro Imports and all of a sudden they are far better value than a Commodore/Falcon realistically. It's the only reason there is still a local market for the time being.

Really? WIthout the taxes what would be close to a manual SS Commodore for $52 277 or even more unlikely $54 377 for a wagon not to mention trying to find anything at all in any price range like the utes.

when someone asks me what they should buy my first answer is always a corolla, if the person tells me it's to small my next answer is camary, if they want a commercial it's a hilux or a hiace. Because I know they won't break down and the person won't crack the shits at me cause I recommend a dud.

GST and LCT applies to locally manufactured vehicles.

The import tariff is only 5% - hardly make or break, even on expensive cars.

Hmmm. yes and no.

Fleets buy them because they are cheaper overall to run. ie. cheaper insurance and servicing. Even if a commodore or falcon uses more fuel - the overall cost of running them is still lower, but if fuel prices keep rising the way they are fleet buyers will obviously re-consider.

Families love them because they are cheap to buy 2nd hand, offer space and plenty of pulling power.

I've driven the latest base model Commodores and Falcons. They are pretty darn good in terms of handling, performance and kit. However the fit/finish and general quality of the car feels very "cheap".

Dont think 2nd hand cars is really part of the discussion, its about holden/ford selling there new sedans, you do see people driving them around, but most brand new commo sedans I see around are under cover cops.

Yes i just assume all new commodores/falcons are cops. The owners often mistake my keen watchfulness for " digging " their ride when im actually just fearful of being pulled over and pinged for something lol
