Hey everyone,

I'm clueless when it comes to most of this stuff.

Just wondering whether this is a 'good' turbo for it's price:

Also wondering if anyone has had any experience with this product too.

Looking to replace my stock turbo and was linked this kit.

Thanks.

The GTRS is a great turbo, and designed specifically as a bolt on skyline kit, but it is three times the price of an equivalent Hypergear swap. Even an externally gated Garrett and custom fabricated exhaust/intake would probably cost less.

^^ what they said.

Remember that if you car is stock (or mostly stock) then its not as simple as 'just upgrade the turbo'.

You may need a number of supporting mods to be able to run it smoothly.

Its all in these forums so practice using the search function,, A LOT! =)

Cheers for the replies.

I read a few pages into this section of the forums and discovered that a lot of them were created years ago haha.

Therefore I assumed that searching for old threads would be semi-pointless due to outdated information, etc.

Also from what I know, all I need is a bigger fuel pump and I'm good to go.

If anyone is able to show me a similar or equivalent turbo which scotty nm35 mentioned, it would be greatly appreciated.

As I said, I'm a noob when it comes to most of this stuff haha.

Read the rb25 dynov results thread. start at the end

Will do.

And then join the hypergear revolution lol

Well if it's as good as everyone's saying it is haha.

You will need an ECU, fuel pump, injectors, intercooler and tune with any turbo you choose in that HP range.

Got everything except the bigger fuel pump then the tune afterwards.

Also, better off buying HKS turbos from Nengun/Greenline/etc because it ends up being a bit cheaper

Just Jap is great for most things, but found the price of the HKS turbos a bit much

I'll definitely check Nengun.

Thanks for all the responses.

Really do appreciate it.

Hypergears new highflows would outperform the GTRS, way cheaper too. Spend left over cash on Injectors and pump and convert to E85 :P

Not to start an arguement with you, but please justify what you mean in terms of out perform?

Are you meaning straight out power figure? Dyno king

Power curve will build sooner?

Torque builds faster?

Boost to power level, meaning same boost and engine stress?

Street driveable to track?

I only say this as i dont like statements that simply say 'out perfrom' or 'better' without any imperical evidence as it can mis-lead people into making a choice that might not suit what they are chasing.

Similar to people chasing power figures rather than a target of driving experience.

This is by no means me suggesting HKS or Hypergear, i say each person is different with different goals in mind, so find your end goal and build to that with price as a secondary option.

Hence why he said it was better as a blanket statement.

Again i see an opinion and no imperical data of back to back tests or 2 dyno charts to prove this with all other factors being equal.

Do you have any charts to prove the curves do build quicker, more boost at same RPM, more power at same boost?

To clarify i dont have any that prove this wrong either.

I am an engineer so like to see evidence of what people claim, as i can claim anything i want as long as i dont need to prove it.

You should check out the hypergear thread, there are more dyno graphs than there are sheets of perforated toilet paper on a roll.

And yes a SS1PU Hypergear will out perform a HKS2535, I dare say even a GT-RS

OP: If your dead set on a HKS turbo kit. I have a HKS GT2835 KAI kit for sale. I'm just using the intake for another 2 weeks or so. PM me if your interested. I've gone a Hypergear, but only because I wanted more power. If your only after 250-260rwkw then the 2835KAI is pretty spot on for this

Never had my eyes firmly set on the kit, just curious about more info about it haha.

Does look like I'll be getting a Hypergear, just time to choose which one is best, as from what I've seen on their site they're around $900-$1200 too which is awesome.

Cheers though.

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
