E10 will run just fine just a little bit lean =D

O2 sensor might be able to compensate on closed loop, but on open loop it would be slightly lean.

You won't make a noticeable amount of extra power and it won't have much knock protection, so what's the point?

Ahh.. E10 will make more power. Not less. E10 is a better burning fuel and that's why it is used in all new cars. Ask the police about their f6 and gts. They will tell you the same thing.

I didn't say anything that contradicts with your statement?

Definitely didn't say it would make less power...

Also you say that new cars are designed by the manufacturers to run on it, yes that is true, but the important word in that sentence is "new".

On an old car that is not designed to run on E10 any benefits will be negligible, like I said.

Cause ethonol = RACECAR and its 20c cheaper litre.

Well if it's cheaper that is a good benefit, but assuming closed loop compensates for the ethanol, you will burn through a tank slightly quicker.

So the $/KM won't be much less than with petrol.

E85 is the business if you want racecar status, not E10 :yucky:

should look at the factory timing map.. then ask yourself will E10 work well..?

if you want to run E10 you are going to need a remap, or at a minimum retard your cas by about 5 degrees.

If this E10 is 91 octane equivalent (or therefore 93 or perhaps 94 octane) then it will ping. Even bloody 95 likes to ping in most Skylines. Ethanol be damned - going leaner and lower octane at the same time cannot be a wise decision.

Try it and find out.

Yes that's the idea.

Im currently running a SAFC II tuned to 98, which have have a dual map feature. Car is running stockish boost 9psi (makes that with wastegate pressure only) so even though the fuel is trimmed which advances the timing, it isn't enough to cause knocking.

Changing to E10 would require more fuel, so if the trimming is backed off and or more fuel added it will decrease timing. Whether it will be enough to not cause knock at load points or be achieved with minimal base time reomoved is the real question.

Also finding a tuner to attempt this and not just say "eat a bag of dicks" is another challenge.

100RON E10 if tuned properly can make a bit more power over standard 98RON, however the 93-94RON E10 that is usually at the pump is a BAD IDEA and i wouldn't even try. From what my wideband showed me, when i had my 98RON AFR's at 12.6:1 (NA back then) they would jump to 13:1 under full load with E10(100RON) but i found i could wind in a tad more ignition over 98 too.

Yes thats the idea. SAFC (interceptor) can run two maps (run one for 98/E10), adding extra fuel though the interceptor will back off timing, may go speak to a tuner see if he's interested.

He may just tell me to "eat a bag of dicks"

E10 means its 10% ethanol - do all the suppliers in Aus use 91 petrol for the other 90% or does it vary? If so I wouldn't bother. E10 over here is about 98 but its still of marginal value.

Turning your CAS is not really going to give you the timing that you need.

If you want to go faster turn your boost up a couple of psi.

Borrow some knock equipment and pull back the timing on the CAS enough so there's no more audible knock.

The stock ECU runs rich as bat shit anyways, so you'll be safe with more ethanol content..

However, what is your goal?

You don't really save more money as the car becomes less economical

United P100 is 98 octane petrol with enough Ethanol added to get it upto 100 octane. That'd give you a good benifit with a remap. Cheap wollies stuff... probably not so much.

AFAIK E10 is shitty fuel mixed with 10% ethanol to bring the RON up to 91. Therefore it is no better than 91 octane, it just burns a tiny bit cleaner and is cheaper.

I have never heard anyone who has enjoyed running their car on e10. Everyone has said the car runs worse myself included when I ran it in my old VL Calais. Honestly the difference between filling with e10 and 95 price wise, only amounts to a few dollars when the tank is full.

If you cant afford an extra $10 or so to fill with 98, why did you buy a skyline?

"Unleaded E10 is United Petroleums ethanol-based unleaded petrol offering. As a result of ethanol being present, it has an octane rating of 95; higher than the 91 octane of normal unleaded petrol. Ethanol is a natural octane enhancer - adding ethanol to petrol boosts the octane number and its performance. It also helps the other components in petrol burn more completely thereby having a cleaning effect on a cars fuel system."

Off United's site.

How can E10 be 91 RON when the base is 91 RON then blended with a higher (ethanol) product?

Curiousity really, see if there is any possible benefit or if it is just a waste of time. I dont have much interest in chasing power or changing the stock setup past removing restrictions, so shit like this is my Niche.

Plus love to prove the "bandwagoners" who comment alot and know very little.

    • If you have a RB25DET NEO AWD motor, you will need this: https://www.hioctanedirect.com/ASR-RB26-RWD-Street-Comp-6.5L-Sump-Suit-R32/33/34-and-VL It is made for the AWD motor, but makes it fit a RWD setup and gives you a new pickup. Just one thing, the pickup sits quite forward, compared to a conventional RB25DET RWD motor. This may or may not have contributed to my previous AWD -> RWD shitting the bed at the track.
    • My car is also flex tuned. It's worth mentioning it (the LS1 ECU) has a 1D table for E85 addition and just uses the ethanol stoich part as the second point of reference. It also as a 3D timing map for Ethanol adjustment. You would think this isn't enough but it works pretty damn well. That said, I wouldn't want it in turbo application. It's like lifting non-natty, or taking meth. It gets you unrealistic results that break down more things going forward. If people used it to make the same amount of power they do on 98 then it'd be one thing. But people use it, crank it up to eleventy million PSI, it doesn't knock - but it pushes the point of failure to another, more expensive thing to break. Every time I see someone make 280kw on 98 and 350kw on E85 on the same equipment I just cry a bit and really wish they would just stay on 98 in that exact scenario. It's bad for you.
    • This is kind of what I was thinking but the temp sender wire and the two pressure switch wires run through the starter subharnes and I eliminated the two pressure switch wires completely.  @GTSBoy I have a can gauge with unusually bright warnings should the oil pressure fall so the factory light isn't needed. I need to dig out my wiring diagram and see if I can sort this out.
    • It's a valid point. And it is doable with the Nistune. But I'm not inclined to flex it the way Nistune does - certainly not on a Neo ECU. They're already pernickety enough to tune just one one fuel. And of course, I'm not that interested in putting in a Link or similar, on a daily. With the stock ECU, stock looking turbo, etc etc, I still stand a chance of surviving a run-in with the plod. Last time it went over the pits (which was for the transplant, for because of a run-in with the plod), the Nistuned ECU did not even raise an eyebrow. They want to see a stock ECU running the engine, and they are happy to see it do so without the check engine light** on. Never mind that the Nistune is necessary to make the stock ECU work in a different chassis without ABS, TCS, etc. **And they actually provoke the CEL to come on by disconnecting the AFM, to prove that the globe hasn't been pulled!
    • This is why you flex fuel it...
