Hi guys, ive tried searching for info but cant find what im after even through google. I'm sure its all on here somewhere but just curious as to the upgrades/improvements that were made through the R32 GTR (just base model is fine) year models as obviously 'series 1' always has its issues to be revised. I am looking at a 1994 model at the moment which is the last of the R32s so I figured it would be the best year to go for having hopefully had most weaknesses addressed and even cosmetic upgrades made. Could someone maybe list the differences between the year models or maybe post a link to a discussion that will answer my questions

Not much really.

From memory, R32 GTR's built from 1989 to early 1993 all have Push Type Clutches.

From May 1993 to the rest of 1994, all have Pull Type Clutches.

Headlight Globes from Pre 1991 used a H3C Globe, Post 1991 all used a H1 or H4, you will have to check.

Slightly different centre console interior trims.

Supposedly, R32 GTR's built from 1992 onwards, Nissan had improved the oil pump drive collar as the one's built before 1992 tended to fail at high power setups.

Base model exterior wise are all the same.

There is more information than the below. Biggest change would be that the later model 32 GTR's had side intrusion bars and the issue with the crank's oil pump drive fixed (amongst other things) Cosmetically they're all identical externally. Depends on whether they had any optional Nismo bits fitted etc.

Being a very old car, getting a newer model will only get you so far as 99% of them have been flogged within an inch of their life and need a lot of work.

One fact that is not common knowledge and I can't quite pinpoint when this feature was added is heated side mirrors.

As you can see in the attached pics, the top button when depressed heats up the glass. The other pics are of my ADM which is built on a Series 1 platform and it doesn't have the same feature and you will note the selector that chooses R and L is also different.

Anyone else got this feature/ My V-Spec 2 is an August '94 build.

It was an optional extra on the earlier models. Might be why its hard to pinpoint.

simply the different the oil pump drive collar. no other differences.

To be pedantic, its just oil pump drive. You only need the collar if you are fixing an early crank.

If I was ever to buy another Skyline it would have to be a 32 GTR, the only true Godzilla, to me anyway as that what it was dubbed when I watched it slaying the others on the track.

Calling the 33, 34 and 35's Godzilla is like saying the 31 is, but then I'm old and grumpy.

The 94 would be the pick of the litter, its bloody hard finding anything stock or good though, there are some out there but the cream is few and far between.

When I went looking a couple of years ago I didn't see one good car for sale (stock with under 100k), the undersides and quarters are a issue, I went looking for a stock car with history which had been garaged, lots of ads said they had one but inspection told a different story.

Good luck, I really hope you have better luck than me.

Best looking car with real racing history in Australia IMO.

Now I want one, LOL.

to add to the discussion

you may find your mirrors are actually the heated type but are not connected and do not have the switch. Mine is a Nov 92.

I say this because I replaced my original mirror glass due to being below par. (worn hardened cracked surround)

Both were of the heated variety but as said above not connected and I did not have the switch.

It may be the came this way but when you optioned it they connected and inserted the switch in the panel - perhaps anyway.

Easy to check too :)

    • Nice one, I'd argue that the white S1 RS260 is certainly the best looking of the Stageas. And yes, fully agree on the forum situation. It's a bit of a shame, but at least SAU is a good place to be. I found the facebook groups to give me FOMO because people were trying to one-up each other and show off in some way. Feels much more natural here. There are people with seriously nice builds, but I can appreciate it rather than it making me question my life choices. Might be that people are more open with sharing how much work/money/suffering it takes to actually get there. 
    • Evening, wanted to pop in and finally register to say hi to everyone here on SAU!   It's been a while since I've been active on a forum, but back in the day I used to be relatively active on ClubLexus and other hobby-related forums. I'm glad to see SAU is still around, since with the advent of Facebook and Discord it seems forums aren't what they once were. As a recent new owner of an S1 260RS Stagea, I've found so many older guides and helpful tips from SAU that I figured I needed to join and say a grave thank you. My recent acquisition has only become legal in the US for the past year, and knowing that similar car enthusiasts from across the pond have already figured out the kinks and tricks to get these 25+ year old cars running well. I look forward to diving into more of the SAU forums as well as hopefully contribute some info myself for future posterity.   As a pic tax, here is one of the few good photos I have of my Stagea. I hope to get way more in the future!    
    • Is this where I say "Hey man my airbox cost me horsepower in my Naturally Aspirated Engine"? (I know you need them for legality in NSW)
    • 1.5mm alloy folded up, it will need a tweek, as the angled bend only got to around 45° as that was the max that the break press would get with the other bends, and I needed a fair bit more, but and the alloy is easy to bend too my will by hand once I trim the lower section out I'll Dremel out and form the angle and mounting point on the lower section when time permits  As for the lid, I'm looking at going a "cap", instead of a flat lid to hide the fixtures a bit
