Holy Shit, that car reminds me of buster!

Funny that! :)

Bought valves, springs, locks, retainers, guides and seals today. Got a great deal from Fabre on the lot and it was all in stock.

Head being disassembled tomorrow and the block arrives tomorrow to begin prep too.

Very cool.

Do you have an approx completion date?

ASAP. I've dragged my feet with other pursuits in the time I've had it. It's all systems go now. I'd like to race at Sydney Jambo in March with testing prior.

This is unnaturally attractive:

Almost all of this is staying out. Anyone need any airbag stuff?

I'm curious to see the machine work required to fit the RB head.

Any reason you are going the TH400 over a lighter option?

Will be sweet to see this car ripping huge skids again

I'll have photos of the entire process of adapting the head to the diesel block. Will also be machining up and fitting plugs for the head so there is no water near the deck at all. The block will also be filled to the deck.

TH400 was chosen because the power I expect this to make will be more than what my prefered trans will take (C4). The aftermarket support for TH400 is now so strong that they can be made unbreakable at this power level and application. They're just such a known quantity.

The street car ran 10s pretty easy and needed a cage, GTR rear end, different suspension etc. It has since had 30psi jammed into it and it made 415kW. It will run 9s soon.

This car was offered to me as a roller with everything already done. As hard as it was to sell the red car, I have a history with this car too so it was an easy decision.

Kyle from 6Boost is making the exhaust manifold for this engine. Will fit a 5in dump without cutting up the bay and include the 6 x EGT bosses. Stoked.

Going for his 'pro-mod' manifold?

This should be amazing!

Out of curiosity what sort of rpm are you thinking of turning it to? I'm keen to know what sort of piston speeds people think are possible, especially with a 94mm stroke.

We currently turn ours to 8000rpm in our circuit car and that works out about 25m/s which is getting up there. Your engine being for drag purposes I suspect you are intending to turn it a little harder??

    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
    • Yes, well. Mine are less than half that. ARBs are not set to "dumb" either.
    • I would hope. But, we all know even the best companies have an issue sporadically.
    • LOL well, lucky mine doesn't have some R shit on it. Around town, it handles so much better than the R33, R33 in the wet is pretty dangerous to the untrained hoon, especially with 13kg/mm front springs.
