Thats a bit harsh , I would let him drive the Tiida but it would be a bit too powerful for him, well he has not driven for a while as the Whale has been beached for a long ,long time, well many times, LOL

I am sure Paulie will be feeling much better today as we all had a quiet one yesterday after a mad first day.

Once I knew I would not get the car before Xmas I was OK, I just found hat being treated like a mushroom is F**king maddening :(

Happy new year mate,

Feck I wouldn't let paulie anywhere near your vehicles.. He's renowned for breaking shit and having no mechanical sympathy :) haha

Hopefully they sort their shit out and get the job done, like I said from the start nothing happens quick in this industry

Haha, who broke Paulies car :P

:ninja:

Nah man. Just stirring.

It's just funny that the thread is about prep required for 2630 build, and that block still isn't ready for a 26 head. So technically they could still put a 30 head on it and use it for a customers rb30 build. I don't think it would happen.

They will just say they will fit the head and then tap for the tensioner if you ask them.

Hi Ben, happy new year !

They are back at work and I will ask them about what you have said about the tensioner .

Don't stress man.

It will all work out eventually!

No stress mate , you made an observation and I have asked the builder and lets see what they say, I know SFA about what you said, but like everything else on this site , I listen to what is said, ask others and go from there, thanks for your input :)

has the factory machined surface next to tensioner.

Yes, it's better to run the higher idler, but not necessary.

Also, depending on the machine shop, turn around times vary greatly.

When i had my 30 done initially, was in and running in 2 months.

But, I had to dick around with exhaust and such(getting it towed here and there, etc).

Some machinists get backed up themselves and can take a couple of months.

The people I use have an approx turn around of 2 weeks on a bottom end.

Head work obviously takes different times.

But....

It could all be done(theoretically) at the same time.

As you said, a well equipped shop, that carries out these jobs for a living could do it in 1-2 months.

But as already mentioned, they overbook because they don't like saying no.

And once the engine is out, it's alot harder for you to just say that's it, and collect the car and go elsewhere.

It's a shame really.

I'd prefer to be told no, and given an alternative book in date further down the track, then keep getting stalled and impatient.

Anyway, hope it's coming along well.

Also hope mines ready by mid February, but doubt it due to crank and funds.

A little more done but stopped again, so I have no idea when they intend to get serious and finish the job, I do not stress about it BUT I do get pissed off when you cannot get an answer to the question "when will it be finished" , easy enough to answer , but nothing , the mushroom :)

Hmmmmmm.

They are running the tensioner below the water pump.

That typically causes issues with timing scatter due to the longer belt length flapping around.

Don't worry though, I'm sure they are planning on selling you a crank trigger setup to fix it.....,.

Ben, I am not sure if I want to know this, haha

It is great having you and the other blokes keeping an eye on this for me.

Do you think I should mention this to them and see what they say.

Why would they do this when it would have been easier to do it properly in the first place. Could it be they think what they are doing is better??

    • Hello, everyone. I'm new to the forum. I have a 1989 Nissan Skyline R32 GTR. I have lost all power to the interior, including AC controls, the gauge cluster, turn signals, and windows. Stuff that still works includes the horn, brake lights, radio, and headlights. All fuses, in the interior and exterior boxes, tested good.  It starts and runs fine, just with no gauge power or anything stated above. No warning lights either. Things that I have tested: - Fusable link tested fine - No other fuses blown - Alternator good - IGN switch tested fine - With my power probe, I can backfeed power through the IGN pin to the plug on the back of the gauge cluster, and everything comes back on.    So my theory is something on the control side that sends the ignition power through the system isn't doing its job, or a wire is broken. (I would think that it is the ignition switch that would do that, but who knows?). The ignition relays don't fire (all relays tested good). So what tells them to fire other than the IGN switch?  I would really appreciate it if someone had some insight on this. I have tons of hours into this; I don't want to give up in defeat! I have the HD wiring diagram, but having all those wires laid out like that on one sheet of paper makes things pretty hard to follow.  Thanks for reading, and thanks for the replies.  Where should I look next? Thanks.
    • Install a MAP sensor pre and post throttle. Best data you could have for NA, then play with the bends and/or air box and see how much of inflection is created at WOT on the plot.

    • The car remains in paint jail. I am now pretty convinced that the whole "RB25 Airboxes are kinda limiting to ~300kw" could be a thing. Also saw a good video from Engine Masters: (Sorry for FB link) (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?ref=search&v=761771519471924&external_log_id=c10bcbb6-2c39-4ff3-9240-287e9921fde6&q=Cold Air Considerations) Where they tested Pod Filter sizes and kept adding bends to a LS3 on an Engine Dyno to find if bends caused power loss. It's a good video worth watching - They did lose ~25hp from making an intake which had 3x90's and a 120 degree. They only lost maybe 1hp with a basic 90. I feel that by sealing up my airbox I have: 1) Created the same restriction a stock airbox would have. 2) Created a very convoluted set of intake 'pipes' by forcing all the air through the ducts. So I am pretty confident I'll be going full circle and have a huge hot air intake pod and actually see a benefit. The air does *not* stay hot once it gets flowing, aided by the ducts, and the pod can then pull air from anywhere. All the posts of yore talk about the stock airbox costing 10-15kw at 300kw+ but you know what? I f**king would very much like that 10-15kw and I remember my own pod filter in engine bay experiences. Turns out the GTT Reo and Headlight brackets really don't allow you to mount GTR items, no matter what the internet says. Various brackets have had to be made up to actually make it fit right for the front bar. Also some idiot mounted a 3L Accusump right where the bumper wants to go, so that has had to be 'relocated' To where, I am still not sure, but it's supposedly mounted in the pictures and I can't see it.
    • Sounds like the oil pressure light is wired into the oil temp sensor... As it warms up, resistance on temp sensor reduces, hence more current can flow and the dash light gets brighter.
