I reckon close may be about the best outcome ?

But when I am ready I will ask whoever is doing it, what should I do ?

Well, Racepace could make the catback part, workshop could make the turbo to cat...

Unless they can offer you a queitish freeflowing exhaust.

I don't know personally, I've got a straight through 4", Have always thought about RP 4" since piggaz and nismoid used to talk about them.

I don't aim for legal anymore when it comes to exhaust. A friend of mine swapped back to the standard system in his S15 and only passed by 1dB.

bit of a joke really.

Rules I follow:

aim for quiet enough to not arouse police attention while idling at an RBT

Quiet enough to not wake the neighbors as they can report you to EPA using the new app

If you can't chat to your passenger while idling in traffic or cruising at 120 it's too loud.

Don't drive in the city on Friday or Saturday nights. Don't be so stupid as to cruise through Kings Cross

most importantly:

No. f**king. Cannons.

It is possible to have a quiet system that makes good power. External wastegate vented to atmosphere will help tremendously.

just out of curiosity would a thick walled exhaust pipe be quieter?

Except external gates vented to atmos are even more illegal then being too loud.. And they sound gheyyy as f**k

put a baby seat in the back pete, you can use it to carry beer home and stuff so it still has a purpose lol.. a person with babies doesn't modify car cause that's not responsible

works for me, I think

this except the screamer(i dont like gate).

My 4" is fairly quiet.

Have had cops cruise behind me and keep moving.

It's not legal(i think it would be close ish.)

And i have mild steel, apparently quieter than stainless(was told by exhaust shop).

You run 4" all the way , dump to tip, what Cat and Muffler do you have, I have no idea what mine is, I asked for a quiet one and they had a mob custom a 3.5" stainless one for me , but did shit all with the dump and cat ?

Have you had yours tested for the DB level ?

I still think a quietish exhaust can still sound OK :/ but I still love a good GROWL :)

What did you have on before the 4" ?

Nice, that is basiclly how i look at it to

And no, thick wall is louder where it matters, out the back as the noise can not escape till it exits exhaust, thin wall or mild steel wrapped in heat wrap is quietist and the reason i went mild steel for my 4", just waiting for gearbox to arrive to finsih wrapping it

I had a Jap 80mm catback before this and this is a lot quieter, good quality mufflers make a big difference, Windsor Exhaust did mine and they custom made the mid muffler for me

i can't remember having it tested, but fairly quiet.

Just prior to this, had a stainless twin 3 with catch ceramic cats in single 4.

Very noisy.

Approx test level of 105db.

The cat in currently using is a 5" metal cat, don't know brand sorry.

I will try and get a pic of the mufflers today.

They are branded, just can't remember what brand.

And I'd estimate test would show approx 98-100db.

I love that you can still just hear the wastegate open.

Just....

Windsor exhaust also made mine, not custom mufflers, but still very happy with the work.

Well priced too.

They make car-truck exhausts, so 4" isn't that big for them.

Cool. Yeah my logic behind the screamer pipe is that if you're on boost near a highway patrol car it won't matter whether your waste gate is plumbed in. I just like the idea of an extra 2" Exhaust to help with flow when you need it.

Although it would suck to get epa'd and have one extra thing to worry about

umm no.

basically, modifying cars aren't legal. pretty much everything changed on your car, my car and the car of everyone else on these forums have illegal mods.

what you need is not attracting attention.....not too loud, careful where and when you go, and don't drive like a dickhead.

Shit!

Thats a worry :(

plenty of 8second VL turbo's on the youtube that are quiet enough, only noisy RB's seem to be ones without proper mufflers on

this is daily driven 10second R34 that's quiet enough

I've seen that Mercury motorsport R34 in person, its driven daily and I doubt the cops would give it any attention due to sound outputs..

A lot of them are only noisy when at full throttle/revs, driven normal they are quiet enough, its pretty logical

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
