Was curious mainly cause my engine exploded, and I know yours kind of did, and kind of went back, and kind of has issues, so I have a vested interest in your car also working right ;)

Getting flex fuel right though, man... requires mastery and a lot of patience, or a f**k load of money paying a tuner to have a lot of time to spend on it

Hrmm my engine has been fine since the original build, just the e85/clogged injector sorta screwed me over

Flex fuel who has done it with Trent? Pretty sure he does tunes in his sleep. the quote from Trent wasn't much and i think he'd only take a day or two.

Oh well probably still stick with racepace in the future though

Housemate did it with Nistune with Trent - Very very good on his SR

I did mine there but my 98 tune was more of a "emergency use only with a bit of spirited driving", but even then it needed a lot of touch ups, hence the whole "it takes a shitload of time to get right"

Cars will run well on non-optimal settings though, Birds saying dat power FC swap after half/3/4 of a tank of E85? makes me really uncomfortable but I'm a stickler for that kind of thing as well, I break all the things

still doing track day?

yes

That'll be cheap....

of course. but the thing is, i got shafted, the bloke that put my motor in, who i paid to check every seal etc obviously didnt check shit so half the f**king motors leaking

I would assume Chris would put in a safe tune so Mohomo can do the track day

looking forward to see what times he can do

285rwkw safe tune. thing f**king hammers

still think should have run a TD42....

ROLL COAL

Then I say hello GTR drivers seat while the R is getting assembled...this should help with helmet clearance when I track the GTS-T! Assuming I don't fly into the back seat...

Any idea how much lower it sits?

Flex has one advantage over non, so weigh it up against that I guess: Put in any mix of fuel and thrash it on that mix.

Every other situation can be accounted for and overcome with the two map switch, using a small amount of forward planning. Going away for a trip? Convert to petrol 1-2 weeks before it when your tank gets low enough or simply take laptop with you and when the tank gets low enough (10 litres or less) fill up at the next servo. You can even give it shit with this mix if you have a safe/rich 98 tune.

That's the only time I convert back from E85. Every other time you'll want to run it fulltime anyway for dem power benefits and United servos with E85 are everywhere now.

Yes, but you're assuming on the mix. An empty tank is never a fully empty tank. I've run a tank of 98 down to the light and filled with e85 and had something like 58% Ethanol content.

I've also at times forgotten to plug back in my E85 sensor, and cruised down the street with a 19:1 AFR with E85 in the tank. The car however, felt fine. Me being me, I would go through at least 2 tanks of whatever fuel before I even decide to get onto any boost after 'swapping'. But my car will probably break down between the two tanks anyway

Gear knob felt noticeably higher afterwards, but I could still see over the steering wheel lol

Trent was the first I know of to do flex fuel (chinny's 34R) and has done a bunch since.

Decent amount. Much better driving position for tall people... you know... from the back floor...

so only one of the VIP guys got into 100MM (Nick of course, being the only one bagged and able to sit on the ground currently), which is good as it saves me forking out $60-70 for a show'n'shine.

also means i have to go all out dress-up at Sandown on saturday. not enough time to get a decorative exhaust tip or mount side skirts. oh well.

I can't blame you for doing that with your car and your luck

But honestly, either I have the worlds safest E85 tune (I am only 20rwkw gain in the top end and 40rwkw in the mid), or a healthy ass engine setup. When I switch back to E85 it's usually 50+ litres that goes in and whilst I don't redline the thing on that tank, it definitely gets boosted to full boost no problems. This is why I'd never flex fuel my current car. It would take some seriously diminished E85 locations or massive pride rises in it for me to flex.

You're never going to have an issue with fuel while running a safe, static E85 tune, because all it will do is run richer by way of the extra fuelling and richer mix.

Fk I wish there were pictures of you driving around like a Mexican

Ah fair enough, yeah mine is just little touch ups here and there kinda

He said my 98 tune was perfectly fine for the street thrashing, but for track e85 is optimal

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
