I've put 98 in a few times just to purge/clean the fuel system and felt like punching myself in the nuts every time. Engine is so much smoother and lively on ethanol. i'd rather pay the premium but United are still price gouging kents.

I can't back it up scientifically, but I feel like switching fuels periodically has to do some good. That being said, a couple times switching back to 98 I've wound up with cracked factory fuel hoses. It's interesting that it happens when switching to 98 as it's technically the ethanol that should be damaging them.

My idle is definitely smoother on ethanol and the midrange is vastly superior...and when accelerating under boost. Cold, off boost or for immediate / low down torque, my 98 tune feels smoother and faster in some ways, however I think this could be fixed in the ethanol tune. Both tunes are years old and neither were touched up since original. Also think I have a leaking injector. Also think I have a bearing that slaps quietly only on startup. Old cars gon be old.

I had the exact same experience with the factory fuel hose after running 98. Small cracks in the outer skin of the rubber. I work for a rubber company, so I had the best grade of rubber we have extruded into fuel line size. See how that holds up. Each time I have run 98 I replaced the fuel filter afterward. I have 3 filters at home I've been meaning to cut open. I'll try get around to it this weekend.

Mount it low and improve the balance!
Saw a learner getting someone to help him get his 250 off the ground the other day. They really should teach learners how to do that by themselves at the course...

I thought you had to be able to get a 125 or 250 up solo to pass the course? Or is it different down there?
went to winton last year, left with full tank and five jerry cans @ 22l each. Total of 175lt. i didn't participate in the last session coz i cooked the brakes and still had to stop just before i got home and top up to make sure i made it. I easily burn over 100l at sandown which is just down the road. On track, usage is close to 1km/l   #E85life #emptywallet #needunitedshares

I got 77L per 100km at Wakefield on 98 So it's about what you would expect usage to be for e85.

Guess you don't have this problem anymore.

Not with the flog. Disappointingly small tank though, takes 45L to fill when the fuel light comes on (~60km "range" remaining) and gets me a bit over 400km. ~60L tank would have been more appropriate imo.

Different down here, never had to do that 7 years ago

16.1l / 100km in the ol v8, average speed of 33km/h explains it

Could be worse like 30-35l/100km from the Clubby I had lol

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
