Maybe you don't understand, I am wanting to speak to someone here and now so I can ask that person hear and now. Maybe I have specific questions about the engine or their experiences with the engine, what problems they may have had, what things that helped them, etc.

Yoshi, I already told you my personal opinion on exactly how much better an R32 with a 25 in it (and specifically a Neo) a looooog time ago when you first started asking about how to turn your RB20 into the world's biggest nugget. I told you then, many others told you then, and I tell you now, and many others will tell you now, that Nissan should have put the 25 into the R32 right from the start, instead of persisting with the 20. A 32 with a 25 in it is the way they always should have been. Neos are just a whole lot better again (although the improvement from 25 to 25 Neo is much less noticeable than the improvement going from the 20 to the 25).

I read some things about the RB25 and I thought I read several places that something about the oil pump or something to do with the oil that the RB25 has trouble with more compared to the RB20. I've actually heard a few people where I live mention the 25 is not all of that and its keep what I have or go RB26 or GTR(This is from tuning shops also). So I want to hear from people who have the engine in their car and who has done the change so I can ask about how it drives, speed, etc. Reading old posts from years ago(which I have) is not going to completely help because I am not going to try to PM someone or reply to a 2-10 year old posts.

hrms...

no sure what problems... I track my car often enough, it has a completely stock motor and yet to see it explode.. and it makes a lazy 340kW at the rears.

How it drives? I drive it like I stole it, out of corners smashing the limiter.

25's have more capacity and VCT, of course they are better than rb20's. The oil issues have solutions, other than that if you treat it right it will be fine

I never had issues with my old stock motor running 18psi and 260rwkw. The only reason i changed it with a fresh one is because i wanted to build an engine and thought i may as well make it strong

Seriously. If guys on a Skyline forum where I'd say around half the members have or have had an RB25 are telling you a 25 will be better then a 20, then really what more info do you need?

Its all here to be found if the time comes and if you already know about the oil issues then theres not much more to know as far as im concerned

if you do decide to do the swap though, then make sure you post up a 'how to' and how it worked out for you, so that the information is online somewhere if anyone else ever decides to do it in the future and wants to search for such information.

Search.......whats that?????

RB20DETs are gay, I had one.. SR20DETs non-VCT makes more torque, hectic a SR20DET VCT makes even more torque.

I've owned a RB20DET so I can bag them out, they're shit.

I quite liked my stocker RB20 in my old R32, was a good stock motor (ate and spat out a bolt, destroying the stocker turbine) and was good on petrol. But mine wasn't making 400hp.

But since you're going to take the engine out, put an LS1 in.

Besides the cost of buying the engine, putting it in, and registration fee and higher car taxes of putting a RB25 in my car, I just feel its a pain to have to change the speedo cable, use different types of coil packs, have to have the weird wiring, etc.

If I put a 26 in the car it would be so much easier for certain things and parts able to use between the engines. But unless I get a good working 26 for cheap, I will buy a GTR instead of putting one in my car.

How about the crank collar issue with the 25 if pushing high hp? Is that something that I would not have to worry about unless going high high hp? Is the VCT the thing that really makes the big difference in torque between the 20 and 25?

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
