It seems like a common reliability modification to build them with all the fancy stuff, or change the stock boxes out for a delicious or something when your making good power for circuit, or a slush box for the drags I'm triggered now with all this talk about RB gearboxs and torque ratings, I'm going to light a candle and pray to the gods of "infernal combustion" for my 4l60e and half shafts, that are dealing with more torque than they should really see Happy trails Dose Mark, with yours when it would "strip the material on the teeth" was it ripping teeth off entirely, or more just giving excessive wear to the original pattern, or just taking the tips off the edge of the teeth? MBS206
15 hours ago, The Bogan said: It was like peeling skin on the meshing mating surfaces, sort of.....basically alot of wear That definitely sounds like a case of gears just not up to it. I've seen some boxes break teeth tips, and just snap teeth clean off and that typically can be an issue of worn bearings giving shaft play, or the case of the box itself flexing and allowing shafts to move. This defo just sounds like original gears not up to the task. From memory they're only a single helical cut too, which won't be nice on high torque. Instead of straight cut, does anyone make a double helical cut gearset? A mate had to wait on parts that weren't supplied and some things wrong, there were a few issues then dealing with them too. The ratio changes look interesting. 1st gear a lot longer, 2nd mildly longer, and 3 a bit longer, then shorten up 5th... I for some reason thought they might have shortened each gear and moved 5th back closer to a 1:1 ratio. I wonder what it's like driving on the street with the bigger first. To make a close ratio gear set they need a long 1st gear because 4th has to be 1:1, so they make them all slightly taller then the originals but they’re are closer together Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/166/#findComment-7984159 Share on other sites
Dose Pipe Sutututu
I would prefer a longer 1st and 2nd anyway, the factory ratios aren't very good (to me due to my powerband) to use at Wakefield Park or SMSP. Would be nice to take the fish hook in 2nd without being right at the end of the rev range lol. I agree about 240z's, but this one looks like it has lived on a diet of salt water, I did due diligence on it, crawled under and around it, there isn't much actual metal left below the roof line, the rust is everywhere, both doors, boot, bonnet, the lower whole body and sills are gone, as well as the underbody/floor, and totally beyond repair There may be 1 square meter of steel, apart from the roof which looks fine, that you could cut out of the higher body panels, and some dash stuff that also could be saved But as an actual car that could be saved, it is FUBAR Sad, but true 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/468064-doses-sometimes-diy-and-pay-someone-home-boat-improvement-thread/page/166/#findComment-7984167 Share on other sites
