I have one here that also got benched, I wanna cut it open and see what material got lodged inside, but that engine had spun like 5 bearings.

Be worth opening for a look.

Looks like a great platform to work on

Yep, solid base and in a lot better condition than the 180sx

very nice! reminds me of V1 of my car - clean slate - quality build with knowledge incoming

sorta makes me want to build something again new and clean - but that thought also gives me shutters down my spine

I still have my  old aero - postage / transport might be the killer though

I would have love to build something from scratch but that's a lot of time and effort. If you were to start again what would you go with?

I am looking at going a top stage splitter and wing and build my own side skirts at the moment. Post definitely be killer and  wouldn't trust a freight company.

not at the price id be selling it haha - wouldnt be that much more that the a piece delivered to you from Freddy... topstage its great stuff ! 😃

and I have 90% of the wooden box my syd comp stuff came over in

Id do an s13 or s15 - clean and good no aero, light, good suspension and brakes - for a 'do all events car' 500hp tops

it would go well - front winglets need attention not hard. personally Id chop them down and bring in end plates to match the topstage rear wing  + as above

Kinda my goal, but some light/basic aero and a touch more power "if" required, but built in so it's there just incase.

they are just a great chassis, the s15 is the go. I have found where the weak points are in s13 from a good look at mine a few weeks back.

To go fast as you have found aero is definitely required.
A basic splitter and wing is all thats really needed to go quick at the tracks here, I know just a small gurney flab on the boot will settle the rear of a car a bit. Good size tyre will go pretty far but getting anything bigger than a 255/265 under guards requires effort.

Last Thursday was the last round of the Time Attack series. It was a hot day and not great for tyres. Was the first time running the new QR Switchback layout, its totally different and a great challenge which a lot of people don't like. Due to cutting one of the straights down it mixes it up for the lower power cars.

20231207_0752131.thumb.jpg.3fbbd027c8ea34c2a617276b00a66a6a.jpg

First session was usual warm up and found it really slippery. Just trying to find a line through the new corners was difficult but slowly got it.
Second session was go time and after a warm up went for it but found the track slippery still and that moved all the braking marks earlier. Got first flyer in and thought to go again but stuffed braking up at turn 1 and then stayed in it but cooked the front left was up a little so stayed in it and made turn 2 but into turn 3 absolutely stuffed up and braked where I normally do, ended up locking up and went wide throught dipper. Tried to do a slow lap to have another go but again track was gone from turn 1 and no point so pulled in. Managed a 1:12.29 all others were 1:13s.

Lowered tyre pressures a bit for third session but just no grip any where and did 2 average laps to try something different through middle part.

Didn't bother with the second layout as was going to do a whole day on switchback. Rotated tyres and did a few checks, found brake rotors were showing a few more surface cracks but nothing too crazy.

Went out after lunch to have another go, did warm up and tried a fast lap but was down .8 so called the day. Temps were in mid to high 30s.

That finished off my year of racing. I had 3 goals I wanted to achieve and got them all
1. Compete in a whole series
2. Holy Grail all layouts
3. Improve my driving

The 180sx is all parked up and I won't touch it for a while. Its performed amazingly well for such a basic car against much better engineered cars. Has out classed a a few Porsche gt3 and 4s and I still want one 😅

20231207_1658581.thumb.jpg.84d8d66fc106cd5e8094bf806f5e0b58.jpg

Needs a few things sorted like front brake rotors, wheel bearings and a suspected rear main seal and bent 5th/reverse selector fork. I am not going to sort it out as will be focusing on the S15 and that leads to the next thing............

The day after I jumped in the 4wd and headed south.......... 2000km. I found a few weeks prior a complete sr20vet setup with gearbox and tailshaft. Massive drive but for what it is, worth the effort. Got to stop by @No Crust Racing and catch up and check out his place.
Got home and got it unloaded

20231212_172133.thumb.jpg.1c038793f9501bc8b80f82928fdb8956.jpg

JHH sr20vet, hypertune manifolds, efr7670, id1300, npc clutch and r34 5 speed.
Also picked up a r35 coil kit from @TimmyMA70

I've been slowly chipping away with little jobs on the s15 and planning to put the engine in this weekend. Need to get it in to see what I need to buy which so far is ecu (looking at Links but may see what else is available), diff centre, a few sensors, oil cooler setup, thermo fan and cooler pipes, clamps and silicones are the big ticket items but I know there's a lot of small things that make it all work and fabrication.

I've also entered the Morgan Park Super Sprint B series so if the s15 isn't ready the 180sx will get used until it is.

2024 is looking like I'll drive a few less events but plan is Super sprint series, King of Qld Time Attack (2 day event), Noosa Hill Climb, Goldrush Hill Climb and finish up at Challenge Bathurst. May try and get up to Townsville to drive the new track if can find the time.

Cheers for stopping by, appreciate you making the effort to go out of your way.

That engine and gearbox combo looked like a great package, well done.

Looks like only the turbo and a few silicone elbows copped it.

Like the new party package

Yep, relatively small issues compared to others.
Party package is going to be rowdy when turned up.

VET package looks good !

Massive amount of racing and heaps of small test days too. Did pretty well for the issues I had and how hard I pushed the car. Won't be going as hard on it next year.
New VET setup is mint and what I needed for this car.

Its in for the first time, washed the engine bay and stripped everything out. Need to cut and weld the lip on the firewall as cam cover and factory cam sensor blank fowl and give the tunnel a bit of a tap with the hammer. Tunnel needs to be cut to fit shifter too.

There's a bit of fab work to do which is going to get a bit fiddly for coolant hose plumbing. The wastegate doesn't fit and need massage the strut tower or work out a solution to clock it better but that affects the hot side pipe.
Engine loom I have won't work, coils and injectors are good just everything else needs to be lengthened and it needs a few things added. Will have to work out an oil cooler and filter block setup then redo a few fuel lines.

This thread needs more updates...

Spent the race car money on another cruise for the wife's birthday so car's are all on pause and still trying to find an electrician to wire the shed..........

S15
Painted brake calipers, need to replace seals and add fittings (got all the bits)
Test fitted a heap of wheels. Will be going rpf1 18x10.5 +15 so can run a 285/295 or Porsche slick
Fitted cusco engine mounts
Got all new fuel pumps and filters that need to fit
Pulled old cooling setup apart and planning something different.

180sx
Bolt checked
Changed all fluids and filters
Removed and resealed gearbox (front cover was leaking not rear main)
Need to swap wheels to another set of Koya's

The 180sx will be up for sale around March as need to focus on the S15 and want to add a few more things to do it right so it needs to go.

Will be on Koya wheels, different steering wheel, shift knob and harness. Will do it for SAU'ers for $28k any cheaper and fancy diff, coilovers and wing will be swapped out/removed.

Update time......

Been a crazy busy time and a bit of a change here.

Sold my 370z Nismo as wasn't using it much and wanting a 86/brz so wife can have some fun at the track again also to help with funding the s15 build.

As said last time booked a cruise to NZ. The place is great, drank lots of craft beer, eat food and visited some amazing places

Before we left I finally got an electrician booked and the shed now has power. Been so good being able to use it at night and not running things off a 20m extension lead. Got stuck in last weekend and reorganised it and cleaned up a lot of stuff. A few more things to tidy over time but really good to work on now.
There's 13x 10a GPO, 3x 15a GPO, 4 high bay lights and 5 LED batons so will never have an issue seeing or powering tools.

Work has restarted on the s15. Removed the rear cradle so could pull the fuel tank and finish emptying the stale e85 thats now been sitting for almost 4 years 🤮
Cleaned it out and let it dry. Removed the old lift pump and have reinstalled a new lower pressure pierburg pump with all new hose and lowered the pump to get it nice and low in the sump of the tank.

Also got a an old diff cover cleaned up, work has a soda blaster so made quick work of it. Going to put a 4.11 ratio diff in with a fresh rebuild thats been reshimmed for now before buying a good diff centre.
437284354_841457474665107_8558791519195401777_n.thumb.jpg.b96916579d9eb4d759a1492037d445d9.jpg437701401_1650959315677852_7047354744361447171_n.thumb.jpg.ce4bda5c5d0bfd72541caac167ef892d.jpg

And had a big change with going back to full time work. Opportunity came up to apply for a race mechanic job so applied and got it, been some big days so far but definitely enjoying it and getting to work on some cool stuff and with some great equipment. Learning a lot on proper car setup and suspension so will be valuable for the s15. I'll be part of the travelling team form next round too.

This weekend will get the fuel tank and system in, need to buy a rollover valve and mount that. Get cradle in with the diff and axles then make a shopping list to buy to finish that off then start looking at cooling setup and plan intercooler pipe routing. Work will definitely be slow now on the car but will be to a higher standard.

The 180sx hasn't sold so may be heading out to Morgan Park labour day weekend for a charity event to have some fun been almost 6 months since I've driven it so will be take time to get comfortable again.

I reckon if we all banded together, we'll make a great race team (build, fab, tune, pit, race) all under one roof.

No need for external vendors.

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
