With the car all fixed we loaded up and up to Noosa Hill Climb summer edition. Two of the other skid control boys entered with a s15 and the new r35 had its first competition outing. A few others came along to hang out and cheer us on.

Car passed scrutineering easily but had a few entrants whinge as it fell within the rules for street class.

Took the wife along for some sighting laps, she hadn't been in the yet with it all sorted.

Someone thought would also be a good idea to bin their Porsche on the sighting laps 🤦‍♂️

With that all done Friday we had a sweet hotel/resort to stay at so a BBQ and a few beverages were consumed.

Saturday morning got in and warmed up car, checked tyre pressures and headed to line up for first run. It was a very cautious lap just doing it at a quick pace compared to the sighter.

Second run was 2 hours later and took 2 seconds off. Third run was a bit more confident and took another 0.5 off, pulled up, turned car off and did usual tyre check when a mate said is that oil at the back of the car. Ducked down and found a small pool and drops on the ground. Quickly started car and small amount of oil was running off the front cross member. Thought was engine oil so pulled to the side and waited at the top of the hill for competition to finish so didn't oil the track down. Rolled the car all the way down and only needed to run it for a few seconds to get in my pit. Jacked it up and pulled turbo intake and cooler pipe thinking turbo oil line but couldn't see anything so jacked it up and started it up and had red fluid coming out so power steering was leaking. Traced it to the high pressure hose and found a hole in it. Looking like a rock has rubbed through it.

called some shops locally but were shutting or closed Sunday. I had hose at home but 5 hour round trip. Luckily a good mate lives a hour away and has a few meters of -6 braided hose. Go to pick it up and I'm greeted with a smile and a new hose with fittings, he found his old hose setup from his s13 which was setup like mine so bloody win. Get back to hotel around 10pm and get a decent night sleep.

Sunday get up early and head to car. Got new hose in and car running again in 40mins. Unfortunately I would have to use my first run to test it. Was a bit nervous but steering felt good but was really slow. Got car back to the pits, set tyre temps, quick inspection and got ready for my next run within the hour.

So now run number 5. I felt confident and knew there was plenty of time to make up. Here's the incar video

made a decent mistake but recovered it, lost at least 2 tenths, lost a  bit of confidence then had a slide at very end but was around 8 tenths quicker.

Run 6 was late in the day adter a mate had a decent accident in his 1600 datto and I was really starting to feel tired. Lined up, got the gren and went for it. Turn 1 was up 2 tenths then up 3.5 tenths by turn 5 but got to 6 and lifted too early then stuffed turn 7 and ended up down 2 tenths, thought keep going but turn 10 I was down 5 tenths so backed out and just finished the run.

In the end finished up 2nd in class and 25th outright for my first time there with a 61.84 which is quick but I know there's around 1.2 seconds in next time.

No major issues with the car bar the wideband sensor failing.

It was a great event and I'll be back in the 180sx. Got one time attack event left in December as we are away for the November round so going to try and get back to lakeside on the 5th November for a sprint event and see how much I can improve my pb.

Just a quick update after Noosa.
Car been back up on the hoist and done bolt check and inspection. O ring on the turbo drain needed replacing and oil feed fitting required a small amount of tightening. New wideband arrived and fitted it up, car was running a bit lean at idle so and transition so fixed that up and finally got the calibration for gear detection as could run the up on the hoist.

Planning on hitting up  Lakeside Sunday if the weather is good to go chase a sub 59 lap with anything close to a 58.5 I'll be stoked then its about 5 weeks until Time Attack at QR for the final round.

After that car is going up for sale officially, the car is really at the limit where I want to go in the future. We have found a driveline for the S15 so will need to do a roadtrip to Victoria to grab it before Xmas so can make some progress on that car.

Once you have the driveline, how long do you think it will take to build the S15?

What's the current build prospect looking like on it?

Running and testing hopefully within 2 months as need to still go over the car and clean it up, rewire part of the engine loom, flush fuel system andreplacepumps, service coilovers.

Going sr20ve and 25 box atm as bolt in and should be good to start with.

Once mechanically sorted will start adding aero and maybe cut a few bits off the car 😅

Two months to build a car?! 😮

Dont you people have jobs and other adult responsibilities?! 😮 😛

I am in a very fortunate situation where I am semi retired so lots of time to do what I want.

Part time work and no kids = lots of free time

:O semi retired life... Wish I were there. Must be very very fortunate, I swear you're not old enough to even consider semi retirement, especially with race cars, ha ha ha

ve or vet?

Why drive down? slap on pallet and send or do you want to personally inspect.

Are we having a coffee on your way through?

Vet

Want to see it as a lot of money.

Maybe, been a few years since been that way.

Need to old mate to get me compression results, video and data log.

Yesterday was a bit hit and miss with weather and getting held up by drivers.......... crazy storm came through and flooded pits, track dried up after some time. Was going to pull the pin but had a chat with mates so hung out while it all dried up and slower cars dried the track over a few sessions.

Did a sighter to see how dry it was and did a 59.5 ,got tyres warm and came in. Checked over everything before next one.

Got out behind a ginetta and good warm up then went for it, was up a bit but got a quick yellow flag before end of lap but it was green before start of next lap. Plenty of room to car in front and nothing behind me so kept in it. Was up at karrussel with a slightlyoff line, a bit of moving around at bus stop and old bridge, came down hill but didn't use the whole track for braking so that narrowed entry up the hill, carried a heap of speed through Eastern loop, coming down front straight was picking up time and finished with a 58.50. Backed it up with two 58.8s.

Wild lap with car moving around was pretty unnerving, came in and went over the lap, did a suspension adjustment to help the rear but called it as started some light rain and I was happy with the time.

Instead of starting another build thread, I'll continue with this one.

Here is the new car, I've been doing little bits and pieces over the last few months.

Nissan S15 ex-IPRA Qld car

The story with this car starts back in Jan to Mar 2021. I spotted it for sale on my105 and kept looking at it weekly then decide to call and get more info, unfortunately I missed it by 3 weeks...........
Fast forward to May 2022 and while doom scrolling marketplace it pops up, straight away message and call the guy. He is the one that bought it and has too many projects and needs to move it on. I organise to go up 2 days later with the trailer and cash to have a look and potentially buy it. I get there and straight away go yeah I'll take it but here's my offer $XXXXXX. They debate for all of a minute and its mine loaded up on the trailer.

This is what basic run down is:
Nissan s15
MCA golds
Seam welded
National Level 8 point Cage (log booked Improved Production 3E)
Flat sway bars
multiple LCA pick ups
Big ASS COOLING system
Braided Hoses for everyhing
Full Loom
Tilton over hung pedal box with pad knock off system
Gtr rear axles and knuckles

Its setup for a sr20, holinger rd6h and haltech ps1000

After buying the car I contacted the original owner/builder to get some more details, nice guy but moved on to a commodore ipra build to be more competitive, car was last run late 2020......

So over the weekend to prepare for new motor I thought better drain and clean the fuel system. Made a bridging wire to trigger fuel pumps and straight away only 1 pump is running, the lift pump. Disconnect lift pump and check main pump and its getting hot and no fuel coming out. Its cooked almost 3 years sitting with e85. Disconnect lines and proceed to remove 40+L from main tank. Removed the old external pump and filter to inspect it.

20231111_144009.thumb.jpg.8173acfc7b0c69f26cc466f2dbbdc406.jpg

All gunked up and rust on one end so will buy a new filter, undecided on what to do with the pump as 1 will not supply enough fuel for max boost setting of the new motor. Thinking run a single AEM 400lph pump for now and keep the boost low. Planning to cut out boot floor so fuel system will need to redone in the future so may do a twin external pump setup.

While I was tinkering removed the old oil cooler and it was full of sludge. The previous motor setup let go  after 3 laps and car was stripped but cooler left on it.

Everyone tells me that the oil cooler is a disposable part on an engine that let go, almost impossible to clean them properly - but that was for an engine that had spun a bearing so it depends what let go means.

That cooler is not going back on the car, not worth the risk for what they cost. From what I remember nothing was salvageable from the motor, he didn't go into much detail.
