dont forget, even if you buy one, there will always be things going wrong, and they are very expensive to fix!

dont think that just because you can afford to buy a GTR you can afford to "own" one, you need to be able to comfortably be able to be paying to fix, rego insure, mod it etc....

Its interesting. Perhaps I am biased, but it seems to me that outstanding examples (Grade 4+) have always been quite expensive, but what has happened lately is that Grade 3-3.5 cars have started reaching stupidly high prices (and Grade 4s have maintained a -- somewhat reduced -- premium).

the cheapest atm is around 23k already in the country (carsales had 2-3 for this price) I was hoping that around christmas they would hit around 20k but who knows

id love to get one for 20k but im thinking maybe its not a great idea since chances are it will need atleast another 5k done on it almost straight away unless you get lucky...and then if you have an engine blowout or what ever you will be paying big bucks to get it on the road again.

Fatz I agree that prices have risen a whole lot, but it is just one of those supply/demand issues. I know you're aware of what a Series 6 RX-7 sells for, or a WRX - compare that to the Trading Post over here. Many people happily part with $30,000+ for an RX-7 you can buy in Japan for Y200,000 [edit: well maybe not that cheap, but close]... If a buyer cannot access a particular market (ie. R32 via SEVS - until recently) then the prices of other cars isn't very relevant?

As 'they' say, something is only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

I hope I don't sound rude or simply stating the obvious - that's not my intent - the bargain is in the eye of the beholder and that doesn't necessarily make them stupid.

Mark

As an aside, I wonder what a VL Calais would be worth on a Japanese market.

    • TBH, I’ve hit a bit of a dead end with this.    The Nistune’d ECU for sale is mapped for a big turbo, which is completely different to my stock motor. My friend (Nistune user) tells me I’ll need to get a new base map on it (no shit), which could - depending on the age of the Nistune board - mean sending it off to Nistune themselves to get it done. Price for this ECU is €355. Then I’ve still gotta buy a license.  Sending my ECU for installation at Nistune costs about €400 (~AUD 700) including a license. So, plus shipping will be about another €200/AUD 350 (EMS), total around €600. I imagine downtime around a month. This seems to be the smartest option. Or have a crack at the soldering myself - I’m not that cack-handed.  At this point I’m at Power FC money - does it work with an AT harness.. I can’t remember. Yes, PFC is not as good as the Nistune, but this option requires zero downtime.  Then I’m thinking f**k it, this is a pain in the ass, I just wanna go rag it on the track; so SLD and then Nistune over winter… I figure I can do some reconstructive surgery on the harness with the some nice little crimps and heat shrink and it’ll look as good as Michael Jackson in his final form.
    • Before worrying about the potential engine swap, you should confirm the car is eligible for import.  If you are genuinely the owner overseas and can prove it, you might be able to bring it in under the Personal Import laws which are quite open, otherwise as it is >30 years old that might be a channel too. Each type of import has different rules which apply. You don't need any outside paperwork, it is all issued by Australia or NSW including import approvals, identity check, insurance etc etc
    • If the TCS light is controlled by the ECU just patch it with Nistune to turn it off. I personally hate wiring in stuff like the SLD because it requires cutting into the factory harness when all you really need to do is patch a byte or two in the ROM. Just to wire in my dash cam and some other future expansion I've bought a sealed bus bar so I don't have to run multiple fuse taps for accessories that want +12V, ignition signal, and ground. Clean wiring goes such a long way to preventing annoyances when debugging all this crap.
    • Ive heard of OCD works. Hows the spool noise before and after? Feel free to PM links or videos if you want.   I've got a good mate that works for a reputable turbo company who says to stay away from them as theyve had a few turbos that came back with lots of issues. The other reason for sticking with EFR is that its just a drop in replacement. I was looking at the g45-1500 at cost price, but that would mean new down pipe, new lines, new intake piping etc etc.
    • can someone tell me what type the stock injectors are on a 98 rb25det neo engine? all aftermarket intakes require style /size injector pictured below...I need to know what stock engine has. and if they are compatible, or what mods would have to be done.   style of intake I am looking at  https://www.ebay.com/itm/325396084484?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110013%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIMRXI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D264094%26meid%3D5341792cb2134ae08e62edba0106c479%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D266154719116%26itm%3D325396084484%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2332490%26algv%3DPromotedRVIPbooster%26brand%3DCustom&_trksid=p2332490.c101196.m2219&itmprp=cksum%3A3253960844845341792cb2134ae08e62edba0106c479|enc%3AAQAJAAABICwDxH%2FaslyJlxG5OwCzDVs5U6ncPDDFP4HCfgb8bXFQagmnGWQKp%2F5LAV0adQfbjzLOMM5V9WdEAXvNCLcpgDrzFvXcL7dVf5HawGKZAaaGFBnv4h4bnbRe6OSYvS8sL7PFPrxKj1Ffjdm6cYtU05cBROA0QdRKCNqPtF1hizoeiccNy6dwbcFsfX6syZa5MfzX2aEOofmNIehOqxSmtQvJliZHTgLy2BTDxXv5Zq9atpb1m%2BVtBHabBK8Wn6U2uPOAs71mwVWNmc1t4ZnHatrqKLQC6hCPTC8NW3QzFTCUvLg%2FWU4IZ1IAyPK288DdviqpLaN9sgbF3Ia0z6zXqLkqPyXbN7irzRC0HP2kjwHM8czF9PjWtRHDVNb1AiU9%2FQ%3D%3D|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2332490&itmmeta=01HWN3YNH6HQ8PEG4RPPSH1HSB thanks
