here is my 2 cents:

Dunlop Direzza 255/40/R17

wet = 8+/10

dry = 7/10

value = 8/10

definatly great in the wet, could be better in the dry imo, pretty nice tyre all in all.

'Maxgrade' 255/40/17

wet = 0/10

dry = 2/10

value = 0/10 (I value my car and my life)

these are a dead set death trap... AVOID!

on my GTR they slide around everywhere, I have never seen my tourque splitter guage work so hard

Regarding to TOYO tires,

I was quote $293 per conner for T1R 255/40/17, is this a good price?

Also what's the go with the new TOYO series, the PROXY 4? I was quote $265 per conner for them, in 255/40/17.

I was wondering if it worth spend that extra $30 for the T1R.

$293 is not a bad price for the T1Rs in that size, i would go for it.

I spoke to a toyo rep at the toyo stand at sydney autosalon this year about the proxes 4, they said it was a compound with less grip that would provide more mileage than the T1Rs which last reasonable long to start with. So if you are prepared to give up some grip for tyre wear get the proxes 4, if it were me i would get the T1R for sure.

Well I'm now down to 2 tyres, either the Dunlops Sport Maxx or the Yokahama Advan V103.

The only thing that concerns me about the Yokie's is that they may wear out a bit faster than the Dunlops, which I have read customer comments on being a long lasting tyre as well as being generally better than the GS-D3 Goodyears.

There just isn't all that much information out there about the ADVAN's yet, being so new. While the Motor test does place the ADVAN's in front of the Dunlops, it's hardly a real comprehensive test with very minimal information. If only the next wheels test was sooner...

not bad in the dry. give ok feedback. shocking in the wet. i went a bit to quick on a turn when it was a bit wet and ended up in a farmers fence... would not recommend these unless u can get em for very cheap and are happy to granny drive in the wet...

been thru quite a bit went thru bridgestone G3's, GII's, pirelli dragons, but liked the yokies the best

looks nice n sleek too

I have probably said this before, but the Falken fk451 are excellent.

I've just put a set on the stagea in 245/45/17, cost $200ea from Tempe Tyres.

They are excellent and progressive when they do finally let go, wet and dry.

Nangkang EX500 (I think)

Wet: 6/10

Dry:7/10

Value: Came on a set of rims I bought for $250 :(

These tyres are pretty hard. Ive had them on the car when they had about 90% tread. 10 months later and a very wearing wheel alignment I still have about 50% tread left.. haha..

Best tyres Ive used yet! Im amazed with the grip in the wet. Ive just been pushing them round corners and they dont even slide!

I can also get 245/50/16 for the same price.

Theres are abit too soft for track as ive found out the other day.. lol..

Falken RT 615 235/40/18 (F) and TOYO T1R 245/40/18 ®.

Just purchase the RT 615 today, after my Toyo with the same size got totally worn to the tread due to negative chamber. Awesome feeling and feedback with the stiffer sidewalls gave instant feedback on the steering. Worlds apart compare to the T1R. Even the tyre looks like it wider compare the same size of the T1R. Now more like the rear size of 245.

Im concern about getting the same inside wear on the new tyres, what alignment setting should i be running. Previously the chamber is -2 deg and toe-in 2.5 deg. Need help from u guys.

maxxis ma v1 out of the shop with 38psi and absolute crap i might try 42 or 44 psi cause at the minute there gonna be the death of me i think... so far never again :devil:

Depends. Remember the search button is your friend. ;)

For road use something around -1 deg front camber and -0.5 deg rear is ok. Toes should be 0mm front and maybe 1mm total rear toe in though people will argue this.

If you've lowered the car you might not be able to get to these camber values and will need a camber kit or raise it up a bit. The rear of Skylines is especially known for this.

give em a coupla hundred km's dude - brand new tyres are slippery as because of the compound on them to make them slip easily out of the moulds in the factory and all those little mould injection hairy thingies. go easy for a bit then push a bit and let us know. ;)

My car is lowered with coilovers Nismo R-Tunes. Since i didn't have the camber kit, my mechanic did some fabrication to the upper arm for the front by making an oval shape hole (more positive setting) instead of the standard round of the original (initially -2deg front) . I know this may sound weird but it works like a gem. The alignment result is -1 deg front and dial in the rear -2 deg. Toe-in adjusted to 2mm front and 4mm rear. The align shop person recommended this setting since i told him that im not an agressive driver plus i do a lot of mix city & highway driving. My next mod would be a cusco chamber kit for front & rear in the next few month. Still testing this cheapo mods first.

Btw Jmac would the toe-in 0mm makes the car handle easier & less tyre wear on twisties?

Had a blast on some twisties last Saturday (almost 30 mins back road), The RT 615 is one superb tyre, no drama or screech...stick corners like glue with perfect feedback (they less than 100km used) . No matter how tight the corner was (almost a S-turn) and it just follow the path instead the rear T1R was tricky just 10 minutes into the run. Had to feather the throttle lightly cause it feels very loose. Can't wait to change the rear to RT 615 too. My last T1R lasted for a year (40k's km) with squirmish even at more than 50% left, i rather put my money on something i can enjoy even if it lasted for 30k's km.

Agreed they are a bit soft for the track, but after 3 track days mine are still looking remarkably good. So they don't mind the punishment even tho the grip isnt that great.

Also, for about the same money the Falken 452s did a fair bit better in one of those Wheels/Motor comparisons. So while i'm happy with the SS595s, i'd go for the 452s based on the mag article.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
