  1. @drunken0elf, my car has a driver and passenger airbag (I might have to check the passenger). It certainly doesn't have curtain or knee bags in the back like our family wagon! Yeah car seats are pretty good for kids. I just wish Australia would wake the f**k up regarding ISO-Fix. Way safer/better according to crash tests... All good on the judgement side, the plan here; don't crash the car!
  2. Hello Robbins. Welcome. Do you have a skyline tucked away? Or something else cool?
  3. This, i'd imagine the hangers are in different places. Otherwise, mufflers are mufflers in terms of their operation.
  4. @drunken0elf, i hear you, but if I can't take my daughter with me, this car would go almost completely unused, that doesn't seem right! @niZmO_Man I think you are spot on here. A child in their correctly fitted car seat are probably safer than the other occupants. Of course, a mid-90s GTR will crumple like a soda can given the opportunity, so I think it would be best not to crash... This is certainly my plan. I drive it quite sedately with her on board and anyone else really. When its just me, sure, then some fun can be had!
  5. There is a lot of conjecture and discussion around this. I think the owner of Skyline Spare is correct and prices of R33 GTRs will continue to climb in the near future. Most of that is down to the costs of the cars at auction being driven up by a larger market. The more people who want to buy these cars the more their prices will rise. Here are some other discussions you might be interested in:
  6. Hi Ben, Welcome to SAU. It would be interesting to hear how you sourced your car and see some pictures as well. Good to hear from you.
  7. Welcome, awesome car. Good to see you know how to treat it! I would be keen to hear more about your builds and the details of your car. Especially if you're drifting it around the place. Hope to see some more updates in the future.
  8. No problem, once you've done your research come back... I'll be here lurking.
  9. Not if they complete it like this. Which I should think is the best way. It utilised an existing bolt hole and requires nothing more than a socket set.
  10. From my experience, these are ok (when you factor in the price) on the track where its nice and smooth, but are not all that useful anywhere else. For example, the front end of my car lifts over the bumps between turns 1 and 2 at Sandown, even with the softest damping setup. Strengthening the damping only made the situation worse as the front end would be in the air longer. The thing about this setup is I don't know if I am changing just the rebound or the damping, or possibly both. The other thing I've discovered is the faster I go the better they perform, until... you lose contact completely, which is bad, really bad. So really what i'm after is suspension that is as hard (and compliant) as the BCs at their softest, and can then be softened up much further. I can't see a reason why I might need more. Any excuse to go down there is valid in my book. So many nice cars to look at. In any case they are my go to people at this time for technical detail. Helps they have an R33 Racecar. Next time its up in the air I will check it out (or more likely, ask someone to check it out for me).
  11. Okay, after this, i'm going to leave you to search. Google and the Search bar here will help you out. In particular you should read through this forum: https://www.sau.com.au/forums/forum/85-importing-vehicles/ Normally, they go to auction in Japan are purchased and shipped over. In the auction process they are graded (please google Japanese Car Auction Process). One someone purchases the car it is shipped over from Japan and complied to local laws here in Australia. Then you can buy them and register them in your state. Good luck!
  12. You were right. The baby seat fits great. I made a real quick DIY for other people to understand how easy it. I wish I could sleep this easily. She did wake up when I reach full throttle that one time. Then straight back to sleep.
  13. Hi there Jono, When buying an import there are a couple of documents that you should reference to your car. These include, the auction sheet, de-registration and any details you can dig up on registration in Australia. Being a new import there probably isn't any information from a registration in Australia. This car appears to show a de-reg certificate for the model, however I couldn't spot the cars VIN anywhere in the advertisement. You will need to match the VIN on the certificate, vs the VIN on the blue tag in the back left of the engine bay. https://www.sau.com.au/forums/search/ ^This will be your friend in this instance. Search for "Advice on buying R34 GT" or some other equivalent topic. As for the car itself, it does look very clean and would suggest that the kms are correct. But i'm not expert and you will need to do your homework to be sure of what you might be buying. Best of luck.
  14. Installation of Child's Car Seat into R33 GTR How to install a child's car seat into your R33. ***Firstly, let me say, if you don't understand what you're doing or what might effect the installation of child seat, please seek expert advice (no this nor any other internet article counts). If you crash and the car seat is not fitted to your vehicle correctly it may not be safe for you or your child. I take no responsibility for the well-being of your child or your installation quality. This DIY document is for a non ISO-FIX seat only. Step 1: Remove the back seat (both the bottom and back cushions). Please see the attached links. Step 2: With the seat out you should have a clear view to the boot of the car. This is the passenger side of the back seat (as opposed to behind the driver). Step 3: With your child seat, you should have purchased a bolt and anchor for the strap. (if its a new seat it should be included). The anchor holds the straps for the seat and the bolt holds the anchor to the car. It is important that you understand where the forces will be applied in an accident as this anchor holds your seat (and child) in an upright position. The Anchor should be bolted at close to the middle of the rear passenger seat as possible to remove any chance of the seat swinging left or right when the car is moving. Select a suitable place for the bolt to be placed. I chose this position: The bolt location was as close to the centre of the rear passenger position as I could make it. This should mean that the straps are almost exactly straight (which is preferable). Step 4: Mount the bolt to the car. Keep in mind the forces of an accident will most likely be rear to front (imagine not stopping your car in time and rear ending someone). That is the seat will need more help staying in position for the forces trying to push it forward toward the engine of the car than it will being pushed back into the boot. With this detail in mind i placed the large oversized washer in the boot section of the car. Please note the over-sized gold washer is not visible in this picture. Step 5: Place the child seat in the car and connect the straps (without twisting the straps) to the anchor. The child sear should be in the car before the Skyline seat cushions are put back into the car. It should look somewhat like this by now: Step 6: Reinstall the rear seats (please see the link above). The rear cushion should be slid under the straps so that the straps run over the top of the cushion. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. The straps must attempt to push the rear cushion down in an accident or high force. If they run under the rear cushion the straps may dislodge the rear cushion and it may end up loose in the car (ie, flying out the front). Step 7: With the car seat in refer back to your installation instructions for your seat. Follow them exactly and make sure the seat is completely secure before placing your little one in the seat. Here's the instructions for mine: https://www.britax.com.au/service-support/instructional-videos-and-user-manuals/?id=17599 There's also a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftDugB3n058 If you are in any doubt at this point, contact one of the car seat installers and get their assistance. (They are cheap as anything as well, I think $30 is pretty standard). Step 8: With the child seat installed and the rear seat cushions back in place, you should test fit the child and make sure it is secure before you drive anywhere. After that. Enjoy having your little one in the car with you. *Also consider investing in beanies with ears... they make children adorable.
  15. Hello welcome to the forum. I too am in Melbourne. Your car looks cool! I try to get out and meet other owners too. There's obviously the SAU vic group who you can meet with, but also some other facebook groups in Melbourne. I'm in about 3 or 4 groups, that way I've always got an option for a weekend cruise. Look forward to seeing more of your car!
  16. I did... I paid almost 60k for mine. In fact it was a little more by the time shipping and roadworthy were included. I don't regret it as I couldn't land a decent LM Limited for the same price from Japan.
  17. @old man 32 I've considered it. But I have a feeling it's going to see some track time in the near future. Plus I haven't had time to research my options. Ideally I would want a setup that could be a stiff and damped as it is now and the ability to soften it up from there... I just have to work out all the numbers (especially the $$$)!
  18. You're right. With the car seat I can use the car for commuting rather than just straight up drives to nowhere. And having a decent stereo will also be good!
  19. I've been quiet here, because, I've been lazy regarding my car. I've done a couple of very minor things with the car: Sold the old exhaust to a member here for what I hope was an appropriate amount. Installed a baby seat in the back for my little girl to ride around with me. (*Side note, is anyone interested in a "how to" article on install a child's car seat? Obviously, I would take no responsibility, but i'd be happy to document what I did for my daughters seat). Went to a birthday party for a young skyline enthusiast. Took him for a ride with his uncle and made lots of choo choo noises for him to enjoy. This was a part of a facebook group, so I was pretty apprehensive, but turned out to be a great day and met some other really generous Skyline owners. I've just bought on ebay a different parcel shelf for my car. This one has speaker holes and grills (and looks to be an OEM item). It was $100 in total (including shipping). Considering I couldn't find any others, i couldn't decide if the price was right. And then I got anxious and bought it anyways. Here's a couple of pictures:
  20. I once filled that space with some heat shrink I had lying around. It did the job and made a horrible looking item look semi-neat.
  21. Welcome... pics of both cars would make you popular (with me!). Awesome to have you here.
  22. Welcome to SAU. There's heaps of info here, just hammer that search button. If you can't find it ask around someone will know (probably). Good to have you among us!
  23. Haha NiZmO_Man, busted talking about headlights again!!!
  24. Hello Jenny. Welcome aboard. If you're looking for information there's an awful lot available. What kind of car do you have?
