R33 GT-R Preservation Society
Steve85 replied to BakemonoRicer's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
This thread is all over the place. Lol. I believe that there are others all over the world restoring R33s to factory condition. I know of three that have undergone complete restoration, including the removal and patching of rust areas. At least two of them were stripped to shells, repaired and then treated prior to painting. There's currently a 400R (in the UK i think) being restored down to the origianl clips for the hoses and wiring harnesses.- 56 replies

This car looks amazing. Glad to hear you will be driving it around heaps. These cars are super rewarding to drive no matter what version you get. Would be keen to follow you as you make a few changes (you know you will... lol).

I paid 57k for my set... lol They were on the car. But I'm trawling yahoo japan for a set.
-
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. On the flip-side, if you find two sets let me know. [emoji16]

Pretty sure that's the going rate. I've been keeping an eye out for a second set, I've never seen a pair cheaper than $500. Hence, i don't have a second pair. [emoji853]

The Stock R33 GTR
Steve85 replied to Steve85's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
My daily (and my wifes) are push bikes. So the cars really only get used for weekend stuff and normally that's family stuff... so you know, even moving them around in the driveway is a big deal. -

"Bulk kms". Just remember, ive managed to clock up only 1200kms on the LM in two full years. [emoji23] I think it should be ok. Realistically if i can keep it to less then 3000kms over the next 5 years that would be good. I just don't seem to find the time to get out and drive them. It's not like i don't want to, i just have a million other things that take priority. Booo. ? -

@ActionDan Savage review. All those things you mention are valid. Most of the dirt and dust is because I've been using my garage for something else, so these two got turfed out for a week or so. And yes, the grass does need mowing (even on the concrete lol). To answer your question, i did the video without any preparation, because I don't have the time, As you can tell from the video this is a one go, get it done effort while the kids were out and I had thirty seconds to myself. I often think back of the luxury of time alone when kids weren't around, lol. I'm not 100% on the rear spats, I believe they came on V-Spec cars, but not "standard GTRs", which this is. The thing under the dash has been disconnected, but yes, it used to be part of the alarm, needless to say ten years later that alarm wouldn't stop anyone. It has a new system, including tracking and remote shutdown. So technically is modified now. The spoiler end plates, believe it or not are stock, this is how all GTRs came out of the factory, the end caps you see on the LM and any other GTR are all aftermarket. And yes, you are right, I should wash it and it probably shouldn't be driven, but... that's no fun. -
Oooh. So pretty. Love it. Keep the updates coming please. [emoji16]

I made a video of the car. People like videos, even with me droning on in them. -
It's a real weakness of the forum. You can write giant stories, but people just want pictures. lol I give the people what they want... once i'm done telling stories of course.

R34 GT-Four questions...
Steve85 replied to R34GTRSilver's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The truth here is i don't actually know if the GT-4 is the same mechanical setup at as GTR. This is where my knowledge starts to run out. At the risk of being an internet jerk, see if you can search here for the data. Surely someone else has done something similar before. (crosses fingers on ambiguous advice). -
Welcome. 260RS is one of my favourites. But i have odd tastes (R33s for example). You've come to the right place for help. Everyone has an opinion here. [emoji23] Would love to see pictures of your car. [emoji7]

I have Cusco diffs in mine. They're tight as anything. 1 way in the front and 1.5 in the back. They seem to do the job well. -

40k... mmm I don't think so. That money buys you some decent second hand prformance cars. (Just checked something for everyone, hot hatch, aussie muscle, Euro coupe). Or possibly even new ones. I can't begin to imagine whose buying this. -

New member from good old England, Thanks for letting me join
Steve85 replied to R34GTRSilver's topic in Introduce yourself
We did not. But for that V10 sound, I can forgive just about anything. I had an E60. It was waaay worse than the GTR for maintenance. Spent a full 6 months at BMW at one point. Sold it because it made me miserable to not have it and to have to spend money on it. Immediately regretted it. -
If your keeping it stock, i think you'll be ok. It's going to be dependent on the quality of the car you buy, and how you treat it, but realistically a good example won't need any crazy repairs. (Very dependent). Some of the electronics that are in the car can fail (G-Sensor for example), but a Skyline/GTR workshop should know about some of the more likely culprits should anything go wrong. As with all "Enthusiast" vehicles there are things that will cost a little more than your average, but you shouldn't be looking at any serious trouble. Just be prepared for any failure to be slightly complex and for the workshop to potentially charge you a little more in labour than your average corolla to repair things.

100%. The last owner of mine built it for drag purposes. I'm sure of it. I'm busy trying to make it a more useful road car. My advice would be stick with the 4.1s you'll be better off in the long run, especially if you go chasing power. But as with all things. It's your car, you do you.
