Is the modding scene slowing?
Dose Pipe Sutututu replied to Robocop2310's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Newer cars are faster stock, and with just basic exhaust bits, FMIC, intakes and a tune they're making more power than a R32~R34 GT-R with money thrown at it. Good example are the 135, 235, 335 BMWs.. if you can pay to play, M2/3/4 don't require much effort to be fast on the line and around the track. There are old bastards just like myself who still throw oddles of money at older cars (which I regret daily, but always seem to continue to do so). Last useless bit of opinion, I actually have more fun and enjoy driving my Tiguan 162TSI than the R33. -
The anti drain back is part of the Z442 design, might start pulling off hoses as recommended and see if there are issues around that. Worse case scenarios: sump pick up is cracked/broken and sucking in some air.. was a modified item by ASR Oil pump housing is cracked, I did re-use the OEM N1 oil pump housing and put in Spool billet gears Collar tolerence (if any) destroyed shit after heaps of limiter Well, it is end of year - a few days under the car to pull off the subframe, sump using an engine brace. Sigh!

Shuuuu, So here goes, built motor, everything pretty much new, however re-used the OEM NEO oil pump, which similar to a GT-R N1 pump. With the pump, modified it and installed a set of Spool Import Billet Oil Pump gears and installed the matching collar to suit from Spool as well. It provides good oil pressure, cold start up about 4 bar on idle (according to my Haltech pressure sensor & the dash shows about the same too) Oil pressure increase as RPM increases and appears the pressure relief valve works corectly too and plateaus about 8~9bar with higher RPM. Once warm, I get about 1.8bar of oil pressure on idle with Penrite 10/tenths 15W50. Car is running a JHH oil relocation block, -10AN lines to a GREX relocation block and into a 25 Row Setrab oil cooler with a Z422 Oil Filter (has anti-drain back) Now the problem, it takes a good 15 seconds to build oil pressure when you 1st start the car when cold OR when it has been sitting for more than 10 minutes I've changed the oil filter just to be safe, still same thing. Lastly, this has only started to happen after the skid pan day... If I did crack the gears, the car would simply just stop building oil pressure but it's still making pressure. So this has lead to think maybe the oil pump housing itself is damaged?

I may have accidentally bought a new turbo ? Slipped on my keyboard and somehow ended up with a new turbo... oh wells.
-
More like time for a smaller sensible sized turbo if I want to play in this sport, but my heart lies in circuit racing, powercruise and roll racing. Anyhow, not bad for a shake down. A few things I've noticed after yesterday: I didn't seal the sump properly, there's a weep at the front (using a RWD sump on a AWD motor, doesn't seal well) turbo is too big for drifting should have bought a M235i BMW or a 335i BMW lol

Here's a clip of Jono aka Signition (a seasoned skid panner) struggling with the boat lol
-
So did some last minute road tuning during the week and poured in E85 (because no idea how much timing the motor can take safely so used knock suppression fuel lol) and then took the shit box to a skid pad. LOL... Was interesting to say, things to note: a car setup for the track setup doesn't work on a skid pan very well a big laggy turbo isn't great on a skid pan, comes on you spin out, clutch kick and you bog can't slide around at 4k rpm in 2nd, it bogs, rev it harder and spins out once the turbo comes on (lag life) semi slick tires on the rear not a great idea either (borrowed some drift tyres afterwards) I'll upload some in car footage soon once. I pull I pull it down from my VIRB. Even the seasoned drifters had a go and couldn't slide it properly in 2nd, mainly slid around in 1st lolol

@Steve85 might pick up some better transient response as well as some extra low end too -

Dose Pipe Sutututu replied to Steve85's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
I would just send the turbos off to Tao @hyper-gear and get them highflowed with near stock sized billet wheels. Don't even bother with the V-Spec, N1 turbos. -

That's amazing, yeah keep it dead stock with just the stock turbos re-cored with near standard size with a pair of billet compressor wheels (just because) so the stock turbos don't grenade a motor. -
