Speedweek don't own the rights to any racing, all of those categories pay $$$ per year to be shown.

Now I have as little respect for rick as anyone.....but that really was a simple racing incident....I am sick to death of watching processional v8 races where everyone is afraid to touch each other.

"rubbings racing"

"rubbings racing"

Yeh well NO other catagory will be able to afford anything other than Speedweek!

As for "rubbings racing"............ Best comment in this thread! Rick served his penalty and was just unfortunate Craig got hit, especailly by another Ford!

Anyways  FORD FTW next year i say! :P

I love the BTCC racing, muller has amazing car control....its just a damn shame they only put 5 cars on each grid over there ;)

door to door is heaps safer but its very hard to get there first in same make racing like the supertaxis.

Well for the boring tripe everyone seems to think it is.... it has got a few points of view. My opinion is the blocking by Tander, not fast but you're allowed to defend... He got black flagged. Lwondes blocked or defended - kelly got into the back of him and got a drive through. End of story. Last time I noticed it was called racing, not crying on the radio because you are being held up!!! Bring back lap boards so we cant hear the wingeing for one.

All you have to ask is "Would the decision been the same in the 4th round of the series"? For mine Tander would have been let go because there would be no perception of team orders, Kelly R would have got the drive through....

So the talent challenged whimp has just won the V8 supercars??? Doesn't say much for the rest of the 32!

For mine Kelly won fair and square - albeit not in the cleanest fashion, but within the rules. Lowndes - just when he wanted to step into Brockies shoes, I hear he is bound for DJR where crying and wingeing is an age old tradition.

Bring back Ambrose I reckon, now he does have talent.

TT

in the earlier years of touring cars and the v8 series, there was barely ever a rub, or a nudge, and 99% of the time it was a genuine accident, now days its common place

the only thing that has changed is the driving standards

they gone to poo

its poor driving, plain and simple

Had that exact same discussion with my old man shortly after the race.... V8 Supercars is turning into the Brute Utes Series.

For what is supposedly the cream of the crop australian racing series, there is some poor behaviour that is tolerated regularly. You pull that kind of shit in JGTC, any European Touring Car Championship Series, Le Mans, F1, Indy Cars, Nascar etc... not only do you have points stripped you get MASSIVE fines for endangering your peers and in some cases repurcussions for future rounds eg. losing qualifying positions etc.

However in Australia it seems quite acceptable to give someone a nudge and a bump if you cant find another way around them... if you need to punt someone off, or trade some paint just to pass, you dont belong in upper echelon motorsports in my opinion.

Granted even the best make mistakes, and some occurences are purely accidental and can be put down to a racing incident, a lot of the stuff ive seen over this season has just been downright dangerous. People are more interested in gaining a place than their peers and their own safety.

In a year marred by the deaths of multiple australian racing personalities, u think theyd grow a f**king brain.

Um, the last time I saw the European Touring Car Championship Series it was like a demolition derby ( but on a race track ). And you can't tell me that there's no rubbing / nudging in NASCAR ?!?!

And let's be realistic, a clean & non-eventfull race is wonderfull to watch from a tactical point of view but when it comes to holding the majority glued to their motorsport, it's all about action ! People want to see a bit of rubbing and nudging and the occasional off / roll. Most americans go watch the nascars "just" to see those spectacular crashes. And sprint cars ?!?! The only reason people go sit in the cold, getting sprayed with dirt is to see one of those "over the fence" flips.

Why is Bathurst so awe inspiring ? 3 seasons in one day. Spanking a roo at the top of the mountain at stupid speeds. Having a wheel break away from a car and land in another car's windscreen. etc. etc. etc. Yes, from a driver's point of view it's all that you "don't" want but it's what people come to see time and time again and they are the ones who bring the $'s.

My 2 cents anyway.

Yeh, oversear tin top racing throw way more punches then the V8s. Our racing is so clean, the stewards are far too strict.

Drop the aero, reduce the brake size and put harder rubber on them. Lets increase braking distances, bring back the driving art of conserving a cars brakes etc. And lets see them move around more...

rubbing isn't racing, its poor driver skill

if you need to rub someone up to get past em, obviously you are the poorer driver..

you have never raced speedway then lol

The first problem here is that GT was not racing on his own merits, he was driving slower than he could simply to allow Kelly to pressure Lowndes. The second is that the "punishment" handed out to RKelly was in no way proportional to the damage he had done to Lowndes. Simply put why would Kelly care where he finished as long as he was ahead of Lowndes? Punting Lowndes won him the championship - the fair remedy would then have been to stip him of the points earned in the race. The "penalty" was like being mauled by a dead sheep.

All you have to ask is "Would the decision been the same in the 4th round of the series"? For mine Tander would have been let go because there would be no perception of team orders, Kelly R would have got the drive through....

In the fourth round of the series Tander would have been out there trying to win the race, not trying to hold up Lowndes for the benefit of his team mate.

Doesn't say much for the points system.

Kelly didn't win fair & square. He was beaten in the first two races & only achieved a result in the third by punting his opposition. How is that fair & square?

Bring back Ambrose I reckon, now he does have talent.

Agreed, but he ain't coming back.

Here are GT's lap times from race two. Note how he suddenly 'found' a second a lap from lap 16?

i have to admit ,,, the bitching and the tagging is probably the highest part of the entertainment in that series...

big fat RWD heavy cars all similar specs with quite a few big babies at the wheel seems to sell.

i reckon bring back the old days of the 70's where most of them drove their cars to the track and then drove home after if it was still running and racing went by the addage of win on sunday sell on monday there was nothing better than watching the old GTHO's and XU-1's and gts monaro's flogging it around a race track

Here are GT's lap times from race two. Note how he suddenly 'found' a second a lap from lap 16?
Whats to say he wasn't just preserving his tyres and brakes thru the middle of that race ready to go hard in the last 5 or so laps? Their is no law that says the drivers have to drive 11/10ths for 100% race distance (Bathurst is a good example of this).

I'm not suggesting that this was the case im just stating that their are many reasons why a driver can suddenly pickup or lose 1sec/lap (especially after just being black flagged).

Their is no law that says the drivers have to drive 11/10ths for 100% race distance

140kms is a sprint not an enduro. This is reason enough to drive 11/10ths the whole way.

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
