Did you notice any improvement in fuel economy?

Cheers,

Fabio

I bought the K&N filter today so I will see how it goes.

On the M35 airbox there is a slot at the leading edge of the bonnet for cold air but on the front edge of the airbox there is another pannel that can remved opening up the front of the airbox. I have noticed on the V35 that this section is also open and sealed to only let cold air in. Would removing this section help improve the airflow and potential power? post-41854-1199513559_thumb.jpg

im managing to squeeze out 350per tank just before the light comes on.

and thats squirting it every chance i get - with a tuned 230kw.

I was only getting 200 out of a full tank previous - and driving like a grandma..

Have you worked out L/100kms now? And from memory there's at least 20L left in the tank when the light comes on. Your previous figures are about the worst I've seen!

nah, i probably never will, my screens been disabled when i took the GPS rom out and replaced it with an eManage.

yeh when the emanage was installed it was only tuned to get me to the dyno - anything above 4000rpm would just misfire and streams of black smoke out of the exhaust.

Cihan fixed it, so i could drive up to EDGE motorworks for a tune, and i've been getting heaps out of a tank now. with twice the power i do like my car now.

lol.... how so?

More air = more fuel

Well you claimed it was better!

Benefits!

#1 Noticeable ease in which the car accelerates and builds revs (even with the OEM dump pipe still on).

#2 More power. Definitely more power.

#2 Whilst the car does use more fuel when accelerating at a decent rate, economy has increased considerably. Particularly whilst cruising!

...I have MUCH better fuel economy thus far (will continue to test as the batch of fuel may have had something to do with it), ...

You tell me :nyaanyaa:

Was it really the fuel in the end?

In my mind, better efficiency = better economy BUT only if measured under same driving conditions. So for example, the new suction pipe teamed up with big exhaust should return better economy if driven as the same speed or rate of acceleration as before. The hard part is to not use the extra "efficiency" all the time which would wipe out most/all the economy gains :)

I am averaging 11.9L/100km on the highway, and around 14-16L/100km around town with the following set up;

RS-Four S Manual

3" Turbo Back Exhaust

Cooling Pro Stealth Intercooler

Nistune Computer

12psi Boost

(185kW @ All fours)

Well you claimed it was better!

As quoted

"Whilst the car does use more fuel when accelerating at a decent rate, economy has increased considerably. Particularly whilst cruising!"

I do a lot of cruising.

How do you drive it? If you drive like Craig your economy will go to shit. If you cruise around 100kph, it will be better.

Doesn't your emanage have two settings eco and race? When you say heaps how many KMs are you getting? I'm doing dump pipe and front pipe fairly soon and I might consider doing the emanage afterwards...

specially if I can have two settings economical and race... my basic understanding is that emanage is able to control pressure of turbo as well as fuel, air etc....

Please let me know if you recommend that for someone that 90% of the time drives very easy and usually doesn;t go above 3000 rpm.

Cheers

Whats wrong with your right foot?

The Emanage doesn't have a boost controller built in.

If you want low down response, stick to smaller sized highflow wheels.

Dont go much bigger than the stock wheels unless you want to spend the coin on a gearbox build, injectors, fuel pump, intake and 3 inch exhaust.

Thanks Scott

I mean I'm doing the dump pipe and front pipe to improve the turbo lagging I don't really want to make my 1800 kg car into a race car but I wouldn't mind taking the turbo pressure up to it's limits with the stuck fuel pump.. (I believe turbo can go to 1.2 bar with the current fuel system)

If I install a boost controller don't I need to tune air and fuel to work accordingly with the new pressure? I though emanage would do all that for me at once nor two devices...

I saw some emanage units on ebay in US going quite cheap that's why I was wondering doing that....

Nothing wrong with my foot the other 10% surely it's to take the most of my engine.... commuting to and from work + suburb driving takes most of my driving...

Question: did you keep the cat in your front pipe? the guy from the shop was pointing that it's illegal etc... but how often are you gonna run into this sort of check???

Cheers

You had better do some searches, there is not that much information on here as only 3 or 4 cars have been successfully tuned so far. Im guessing that unless you can find a competent Emanage ultimate tuner up in Sydney, you will have to trek down to Melbourne for your tune.

The emanage ultimate wont improve your off boost economy by much, the stock map is pretty efficient. M35's run rich on boost, by leaning it out a bit there is a fair bit more power for free.

The stock turbo isnt reliable at the stock boost level, let alone bumping it up, save for a steel wheel highflow.

I have heard of heaps of Sydney-siders running catless front pipes, Down here were too scared of the plod. A 4 inch body 100cpsi metal cat will flow well over 300awkw I know for a fact. :)

In Sydney I haven't been checked once and I ran straight pipe for over 2 years. Was loud as hell. So long as you don't do anything stupid like sit in Liverpool crispy kreme carpark on fri-sat night. I only seen them check volume twice. Once on the old PAC. The other was near the airport. Still no emission check.

    • I had 3 counts over the last couple of weeks once where i got stranded at a jdm paint yard booking in some work. 2nd time was moving the car into the drive way for the inspection and the 3rd was during the inspection for the co2 leak test. Fix: 1st, car off for a hour and half disconnected battery 10mins 4th try car started 2nd, 5th try started 3rd, countless time starting disconnected battery dude was under the hood listening to the starting sequence fuel pump ect.
    • This. As for your options - I suggest remote mounting the Nissan sensor further away on a length of steel tube. That tube to have a loop in it to handle vibration, etc etc. You will need to either put a tee and a bleed fitting near the sensor, or crack the fitting at the sensor to bleed it full of oil when you first set it up, otherwise you won't get the line filled. But this is a small problem. Just needs enough access to get it done.
    • The time is always correct. Only the date is wrong. It currently thinks it is January 19. Tomorrow it will say it is January 20. The date and time are ( should be ! ) retrieved from the GPS navigation system.
    • Buy yourself a set of easy outs. See if they will get a good bite in and unthread it.   Very very lucky the whole sender didn't let go while on the track and cost you a motor!
    • Well GTSBoy, prepare yourself further. I did a track day with 1/2 a day prep on Friday, inpromptu. The good news is that I got home, and didn't drive the car into a wall. Everything seemed mostly okay. The car was even a little faster than it was last time. I also got to get some good datalog data too. I also noticed a tiny bit of knock which was (luckily?) recorded. All I know is the knock sensors got recalibrated.... and are notorious for false knock. So I don't know if they are too sensitive, not sensitive enough... or some other third option. But I reduced timing anyway. It wasn't every pull through the session either. Think along the lines of -1 degree of timing for say, three instances while at the top of 4th in a 20 minute all-hot-lap session. Unfortunately at the end of session 2... I noticed a little oil. I borrowed some jack stands and a jack and took a look under there, but as is often the case, messing around with it kinda half cleaned it up, it was not conclusive where it was coming from. I decided to give it another go and see how it was. The amount of oil was maybe one/two small drops. I did another 20 minute session and car went well, and I was just starting to get into it and not be terrified of driving on track. I pulled over and checked in the pits and saw this: This is where I called it, packed up and went home as I live ~20 min from the track with a VERY VERY CLOSE EYE on Oil Pressure on the way home. The volume wasn't much but you never know. I checked it today when I had my own space/tools/time to find out what was going on, wanted to clean it up, run the car and see if any of the fittings from around the oil filter were causing it. I have like.. 5 fittings there, so I suspected one was (hopefully?) the culprit. It became immediately apparent as soon as I looked around more closely. 795d266d-a034-4b8c-89c9-d83860f5d00a.mp4       This is the R34 GTT oil sender connected via an adapter to an oil cooler block I have installed which runs AN lines to my cooler (and back). There's also an oil temp sensor on top.  Just after that video, I attempted to unthread the sensor to see if it's loose/worn and it disintegrated in my hand. So yes. I am glad I noticed that oil because it would appear that complete and utter catastrophic engine failure was about 1 second of engine runtime away. I did try to drill the fitting out, and only succeeded in drilling the middle hole much larger and now there's a... smooth hole in there with what looks like a damn sleeve still incredibly tight in there. Not really sure how to proceed from here. My options: 1) Find someone who can remove the stuck fitting, and use a steel adapter so it won't fatigue? (Female BSPT for the R34 sender to 1/8NPT male - HARD to find). IF it isn't possible to remove - Buy a new block ($320) and have someone tap a new 1/8NPT in the top of it ($????) and hope the steel adapter works better. 2) Buy a new block and give up on the OEM pressure sender for the dash entirely, and use the supplied 1/8 NPT for the oil temp sender. Having the oil pressure read 0 in the dash with the warning lamp will give me a lot of anxiety driving around. I do have the actual GM sensor/sender working, but it needs OBD2 as a gauge. If I'm datalogging I don't actually have a readout of what the gauge is currently displaying. 3) Other? Find a new location for the OEM sender? Though I don't know of anywhere that will work. I also don't know if a steel adapter is actually functionally smart here. It's clearly leveraged itself through vibration of the motor and snapped in half. This doesn't seem like a setup a smart person would replicate given the weight of the OEM sender. Still pretty happy being lucky for once and seeing this at the absolute last moment before bye bye motor in a big way, even if an adapter is apparently 6 weeks+ delivery and I have no way to free the current stuck/potentially destroyed threads in the current oil block.
